I was at Apple Store today and when I told the clerk that my iPhone 4S battery is draining faster than my wife's iPhone 4, he took my phone and run some kind of test on it and he told me that there are applications that had crashed in the last 24 hours and that is causing the battery to drain. Non of the applications that crashed are those I downloaded but Apple's own.
I found it very hard to believe that the crashing applications cause the battery to drain that bad. After reading this post, I now know that, although the applications that crashed may have contributed to the fast battery drainage before they crashed, there seem to be definitely an issue with the battery life on iPhone 4S. Could it be that the faster A5 CPU is dissipating heat that was not noticed during testing. I notice the phone heating up when I use the it for more than 5 mins talk time. That heat energy should come from somewhere
IOS 5 and apps that come with it? Antenna? CPU?
Do this ... go to settings>general>about>diagnostics & usage>dianostics & usage data
You will be able to see the list of apps that crashes.
Before i restore my phone to set up as new ... i have a long long list of crashes. After i restore the phone, i have only 3 crashes, which is from me using field test function (no app for this).
To access field test, go to phone function, input *3001#12345#* <SEND>. ... you will be able to see a lot of information of your phone, including cellular signal strength in numberic ... your carrier's IP address for data access, transmission signal strength, etc...
The iOS 5.0.1 update will likely be power management update, to better regulate the usage of the processor, some bug fix, and default setting changes. Improvement to the battery,... depends on how much they tweak it. but i really hope they dont under clock the processor to give better battery life at the expense of speed. We'll find out soon.
How i wish they can redeploy the heat and convert it into energy back to the battery ... just like KERS in F1.
