Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

    I expected better from Apple

The battery life on 4S is terrible. I have seen suggestions to turn offlocation services etc but the whole point of this phone is to be able to usethose services.

I have to charge the phone three times a day.

    OMG NO WAY!!

Seriously though, there are a million topics already open to this. Do a search. Turn off time set automatically and you're good to go.

Hey, there is something you can try to turn your phone back on... Attach your phone to a wall charger, press the power button and home button at the same time, until the Apple logo shows.

For the 1000th time in this thread.

The problem is almost certainly not hardware related but software related, Apple has acknowledged this and a fix is on the way.

For what it's worth (and I know I'm hardly the first to say this), I installed the 5.0.1 beta yesterday and have seen absolutely no improvement whatsoever, even after making the alternations that the update was supposed to have made unnecessary. Having said that, it *is* technically still a beta release, so it's entirely possible that it will be tweaked for the official release in a couple of weeks.

    5.01 doesnt solve this problem.

try to keep the mail on manual, that works a little bit for me.

We all shoud that the battery drains, i think apple wil work hard to solve the problem.

We will wait hopefull against a good ios.

One of the problems in this kind of discussions is to have some kind of reference... Which ofcourse should be the stated specs from Apple.

I think in order to conclude anything it must be analysed in a structured way. Doing really measures and comparison.

It's not possible for individuals since we only have one phone (or two) and all have different configurations, apps installed, usage, etc

Bottom line is that there are so many factors to consider in this discussion

i've been reading the forum posts all afternoon and it seems that letting the battery drain completely and then charging it to full may be the next step

We as users can still contribute. Try this:

It's what I have been doing to help figure out proper settings for decent battery health while we wait for the official updates.

Maybe there is a different solution for each person, but letting your battery drain until it's empty, and then charging it, will surely help. Did you already try to reset your phone to factory settings?

I would just like to add what I'm doing while waiting on the fix.. I double tap the home buttone it brings up a list of apps running in the back ground.. Press and hold the apps as if you were going to delete them... a button pop up in red on each app with a minus sign... press that and it closes the app... do this as often as you like to help minimize app back ground running.. Just thought someone might would like this option also.. Thanks

I did the full discharge and full overnight recharge with 90 minutes of trickle charge using Battery Doctor Pro. I've actually done this a few times since it is a new battery and I haven't been able to find a difinitive answer on whether or not this is necessary to condition a new LiOn battery or not, but I haven't seen anything that says it will hurt.

I also did a Reset All Settings to get it to factory specs.  (THIS DOES NOT WIPE ALL YOUR DATA, APPS, PICS, MUSIC ETC.) It just resets the phone to factory specs with very little running in locations or notifications. You have to reset your network passwords.

I did a Reset Network Settings reset to pull latest 3G tower information onto my phone.  I have really bad 3g connectivity at my office, ironically enough I work in the AT&T center in Los Angeles and typically have 1 to 2 bars of signal and a lot of the time drop back to EDGE.

In System Services I turned off Diagnostics & Usage, Location-Based iAds, Setting Time Zone and Traffic.

In Location Services I only have Siri and Weather turned on.

In Notifications I have Phone, Messages, Reminders and Calendar turned on.  I am considering turing off Calendar but I don't know if that will make a big difference or not.

I have mail set to manual fetch and typically check it a couple times a day.  I can't link to my office work email so I really don't need to have my personal email pushed all the time.  I just check it when I am expecting something or as I said a couple times in the morning and the afternoon.

I periodically kill all the apps running in the Multitasking Tray. I also at least once a day do a restart, i.e. hold home and power buttons until the apple logo appears and does a re-boot of the OS.  I wish you could just open the multitasking tray and hold the home button for 10 seconds and kill them all at once.

So far I am at about 6% per hour drop in battery level.  Better than the 12 - 15% per hour I was getting before I did the full battery drain and recharge.

I got the biggest boost when I did the Reset All Settings restore.  In my opinion there was something being pulled from my old phone when I did my initial set up and didn't set up as a new iPhone.

I really hope that the iOS 5.0.1 firmware update will really help with this battery drain problem.  I moved from a refurbed iPhone 3G to the 4S and was looking forward to using it they way it should be
