Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

    SInce getting my iPhone4S 1 week back, i have been charging at least 2 times a day and battery gets drained out just on stand by. I read that switching off automatic time update and location would help but the improvement has not been substantial and i am thinking of going to ATT store to have it replaced as i have tried all that was possible - and i do hope they are able to do something. I also really hope that apple is able to solve these issues pretty soon and it would be too difficult always looking for a charging place all the time.

    Glad to hear a fix is coming!  I lose 30% overnight with the phone idle.

    People, no need to add your two cents on here. Apple already recognized the battery drain issue and an update is just around the corner.

    Spend your time enjoying your phone and your life and not scouring the internet trying to figure this out.

    Have a good day!

    I am still within the 14 return limit, and am trying to figure out whether or not to bring it back.  Just adding my 2 cents to the awful battery performance. Glad to see that a fix is in the offing. Just hope it works.

    The more information about the current problem that's out there the better the comparisons will be to post-firmware update performance later.

    That's my 2¢.

    You know, we have to be careful to not OVER-PANIC here.   1% battery drop for 3min of talk time is a 5 hour talk range.   Not unreasonable.

    Yes there it is necessary to add our voices.

    Apple only acknowledges a "small" number of users having battery life problems. Apple needs to know that it's NOT just a small number of users.

    I was having problems and didn't know who to notify. It is my first iPhone and I figured it the battery life issue was just inherent with a smart phone and expected life was just exaggerated.

    Now I know it's a widespread problem.

    We need to let Apple know, especially if the iOS fix doesn't work. (I dont' beleive it will, do you? Really?)

    Exactly, I am also unsure whether I have the issue or not.

    In standby mode it seems to drop 1-2% per hour which I think is reasonable.

    When using the phone it drains quite heavy, but maybe not more than normal.

    I haven't had Iphones recently so can't say if it's worse than 3gs or 4

    Honestly, I've been very critical of Apple since this issue appeared. But one thing I would not do is go around making accounts here and impersonating Apple users having issues. If you're doing that just get the eff... out of here.

    There is an issue, then some tinkering with the device might improve battery performance, as will choosing a "better" carrier, going through full charge cycles and such but after that you have to be aware of the specs of the device for 3G/Wifi use and all - this guy just posted them. It will just not work through many days of gaming/internet without charging that's for sure and it will never compare to a flip phone. So at some point the issues must make way to rational expectations in terms of battery life. I'm not saying that Apple is not responsible for some of the (high) expectations about the device, but only so much.

    The new Beta has almost finished installing. I should have some observations shortly.

    This is kind of interesting.  I was having the same problems as everyone else, even after changing the settings as recommended in other posts.  Two mornings ago while at work, I just let the battery drain until the phone shut off.  Like many people here, the battery had been draining while the phone was doing nothing in standby mode.

    At about 3 PM later that day, I plugged the phone in.  When I left work about 5:30 PM, the battery level indicated 82%.  Wow, that was quick.

    At 7 AM the following morning (yesterday), after the phone had been charging for 16 hours, the battery level indicated 92 %.  WHAT??  It had only gone up 10% between 5:30 PM one night and 7 AM the next morning?  And it wasn't fully charged after 16 hours?

    I assumed there was a power failure that lasted most of the night.

    Within an hour or so, the battery level was then reading 100%.  OK, so this was at about 8 AM yesterday morning.  I've used the phone only a moderate amout since then.  Here are my current usage stats:

    Usage = 2 hours, 2 minutes

    Standby = 1 day, 7 hours

    Current battery level = 64%

    What a turn-around!  I still have 64% battery left.  So was it a power failure after all?  Or did something reset itself somewhere?  I wish I had been able to monitor exactly what had happened overnight when I charged the phone.

    Tentative good news! The Beta 2 update completed about 15 minutes ago and I've been texting and E-mailing heavily since then, as those were the two things that seemed to drain my battery far too fast. I was at 96% when the update completed, and after those 15 minutes, I'm still at 96%, whereas before I would have been down to 90 or 91%. I don't want to go out on a limb just yet and say that the issue is resolved, but it's looking good. Will report back later after I've had a chance to do a full recharge and put it through its paces.

    15 minutes?   You're kidding us right?    Let us know how it looks by morning!   :-/

    I'm not kidding. Before I applied this update, texting and E-mailing for 15 mintues would have killed 5-10%, easily. Now it hasn't killed one; in fact, I'm still holding fast at 96% half an hour later. Feel free to disregard my posts if you don't find them useful.

    Great news, Pubcrawler. I have subscribed to your posts so I can follow your results. Was bummed to hear the original patch didn't do much. This is much more heartening and we need some optimism around here.
