Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

This may be a coding issue with both the IOS 5 and iCloud. I too have iCloud set up and my phones battery life is about 5 hours of usage a day and then I must charge my phone again for fear of it not having any battery life when I need it again the same day.

hello there i bougth my iphone last weekend and i readed on giz that battery had issues

    i have tried this methods:

    deactivate many push notifications

    deactivate location services

    deactivate mail fetching

    using my battery till death

and today my usage stats are these

    USAGE 8 hours 21 minutes

    STANDBY 22 hours 27 minutes

(including: alarms on, streaming videos on internet, sendin videos via imessage, playing tiny wings A LOT, tweeting, instagraming, etc)

my stats have increased since the last time i used it, i heard that apple is working on a solution, and maybe is a software problem, although i bought my phone here in mexico about one month later and i dont know if it belongs to a new assembling line.

I don't have iCloud and my battery life seems to be better than yours, however, not fantastic.  My phone lasts all day on one charge usually with taking photos, sending about ten emails, googling maybe twenty times, half on wifi, half on 3G.  Someone told me that smartphones usually need to be charged once a day with "normal" usage.  Is that incorrect?

5 hours from full  charge to dead on standby.

Genius bar said no help they could repace it with a hundred iphones all would do the same. Bit of a problem hey? Waiting for the software fix before probably returngn the 4s to the shop as a non viable product....

Looked at some other threads on this problem. One I found suggested doing a Reset:

Settings >> General >> Reset >>Reset all settings

You will have to reenter your WiFi pwds, and I restored from iCloud.

My drain-rate has gone from 15%/hour to 3% / hour and I can live with that!

Ok I took the following actions:  turned off the unnecessary location and notification services and reduced my email accounts, lowered the brightness contol.  Then I fully discharged my phone and started a recharge at 8:30 pm Friday.

24 hrs later after light use, couple of email and two app updates, all seemed good - battery at 83% ,usage indicated 1 hr talk time and 23 hours standby.  THEN I checked again about 1.5 hrs later and the phone was totally off. I rebooted and the battery showed 63% and when I checked usage it was BLANK with a note that said usage data will be available after a full recharge.

I haven't charged yet, I am 41 hours since my full charge with 25% battery life.

Yeah I think there are more than a few problems!

I definitely think it's a software issue. My battery percentage showed 12% but a message popped up saying 20%. I'm running the battery right down with little use. 2 days 18 hrs with about 6hrs usage. Where the six hours comes from i don't know as i've only made a couple of calls played avatar for a few minutes etc. Batter % now shows 4%...

Just upgraded to iOS-5 - AND GUESS WHAT - its like watching a 4X4, 4 litre petrol gauge !

Have tried some setting adjustments - but prior to iOS-5 it was working fine - so I guess we know the culprits.

Went to Apple store London - and got some condescending remarks not using phone right!  Sure - that means the utility is more important that the user - and if that attitude continues good-bye apple iPhone! Which would be sad.

I did a full restore as a new iPhone 4S (never used my backup).  The battery issue remains.

I then used the settings recommended on the Apple web site to maximize battery life.  These only helped minimally. I then set Time Zones manually.  This helped; however, battery life is still a problem.

After a full restore, my Diagnostics area was cleaned out.  After a few days it contains a tremendous amount of diagnostics (dozens and dozens for each day) showing all kinds of crashes going.  This must be iOS 5 / App interactions along with the hardware...  All stuff that I, as a user, have no control over.  I think we must have a new version of iOS 5.  I get the sense that my iPhone is constantly polling for data or signal.  It sometimes gets a warm screen.

I might add that I'm constantly traveling hundreds of miles in my time zone.  So, the signal availability constantly changes.

I also fully use iCloud (maybe that's what's being constantly polled).

One other weird thing.  My iPhone was charged overnight, as usual.  I continued to have it plugged into the mains and was using it throughout the day.  At one period, after I unlocked to use my iPhone, I noticed that the battery percentage said 93%--and this iPhone had never been unplugged!  That is flakey!  It makes me think that the battery percentage reading may actually have no bearing on reality!

Turned OFF all notifications and still my standby time barely reached ten hours - a far cry from the promised 200 hours. Apple has screwed the pooch. I will return my current iPhone 4s for a full refund if the problem is not solved soon.

Are you people serious? APPLE KNOWS ABOUT THE ISSUE. They are working around the clock to fix this, albeit they left us in the dark, but they will fix the issue.

Further to my previous POST yesterday where I completely drained my iPhone and then reinstalled teh IOS from recovery mode in iTunes as per recommendation from rogerfromfrance.

Here are the results from today's standing.

    • The phone was on mains charge last night and I removed it this morning around half past six with 100% charge
    • I have been taking hourly screen shots of the usage
    • During this time I used my phone as normal
    • Installed applications used Siri, switched on location services, played video and made calls
    • Also configured all my mail accounts including Exchange, POP, Hotmail, Gmail and yahoo etc.
    • Took photos and made 2 videos
    • Sent a lot of text messages to wish everyone Eid-Mubarak

Screen shots below attached for your reference

    iPhone Usage Summary.jpg

I am satisfied with these results and hoping even better performance once the fix is available.

Thanks again to everyone on here for their suggestions, advice and experiences.

    Hello!

By turning off the pin code to the sim card, not only has my 4s stopped loosing connection. The battery life is now fully normal! At least what you can expect from a phone like this.

I got my phone on friday. Immediatly it started acting weird. If I took the elevator or went to the garage below the building I'm living in.. I had to restart the phone to get it 'online' again.

Yesterday I unchecked the pin code to the sim card. I haven't restarted my phone since. I also charged my phone yesterday.. some 28 hours ago.

2 hours 5 min of Usage

1 day 4 hours of stand by

    50% battery left

I think there's something fishy about the pin code

I'm with Mark Yamamoto2, I think Bluetooth is a major culprit here. Bluetooth has always taken a bite out of my iPhone 4 battery, but it was an acceptable impact. My battery was dropping precipitously on my iPhone 4S until I turned off the Bluetooth. I tried turning it back on and again my battery took a hit. I need Bluetooth but will keep it off (or turn it on when I really need it) until the iOS update. Hopefully, the update will fix this.

Switching off Automatic Diagnostic and Usage in Settings>Genral>About>Diagnostic & Usage  solved the problem for me.

I couldn't make it through the day, but now, after playing games for 1 hour, listening to music 5 hours, watching videos for 20 minutes, browsing for 2 hours, I am still at 50% and my day is over.

So, I'd suggest trying it out, worked well for me. Cheers,
