Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Guys guys guys, its the wild west here

Everybody seems to have found the cause, but saying that the pin code is the issue is far out. Sorry

I think each and every single setting on the iphone has been mentioned as the cause in this thread.

Bottom line is that nothing seems consistent here and nobody has provided a generic tip which works for everybody

I'm not saying the pin code is THE issue.. more like one of the issues

It is a fact, that people have solved their connection problems by turning the pin code off. And it worked for me also.. with a little side effect. Battery life drastically improved

Restoring from recovery mode worked for me and I am happy with that.

10hrs 42mins standby and 6hrs 35min usage time is not bad compared to what I was getting originally.

next software release will only improve this (I hope)

I never had a pin so that couldn't have been the cause of the drain.

The question is will Apple do something for us who have spent the money on this phone already?

The point is that turning things off will ofcourse maximize the battery. The best thing in order to save power is to put the device in flight mode and keep it in standby.

None of the points in this thread actually solves the software relatedb bug which apparantly is solved in 5.0.1

But its just funny to see that people think theyve found the issue.

Thanks for that.  I just checked and my sim pin was already off.  Guess I'll just have to wait for the software update.  I'm sure it will be out soon considering Xmas is right around the corner.

1 min of battery percentage left.

    usage 6 hrs 59 mins

    standby 2 days 22 hrs

This is with very little use over the weekend so where the six hours usage came in i don't know more like 1 hour.

I wonder if the battery percentage shows less than it should - my theory.

My battery life drains extremely quick also. It was at 1% for awhile and did not shut down the way it normally would on my iPhone 4. I think you're right about it reading the wrong percentage. Hope the update fixes this.

POSSIBLE WAY TO SEE IF YOUR BATTERY IS IN FACT FAULTY:

I did a reset all settings from the phone (deleted everything, even data--I have backups on iCloud and iTunes) and

set up as a new phone. I did not install anything. No apps or email. I turned off all notifications and only set up wifi and

didn't setup or login to iCloud.   My Battery is currently @ 94 % with 18hours  and 11 minutes of standby and 22 minutes of usage.  Just something I wanted to check and look into to see if in fact it's software, and in my case it is.  There are obviously processes working in the background before I did this because it would show usage in hours, when in fact it was just in standby. I just thought I'd share this.

I agree with you. I don't think my battery is faulty just the software. Mine lasted nearly three days in standby anyway.

Funny how new people pop on here without reading anything....

I was skeptical but doing the full drain and the full charge plus all the other location settings changes (from page 167) made a HUGE difference!

I ALSO SHUT OFF THE LOCATION SETTING FOR THE REMINDERS.  I HAVEN'T HEARD ANY REMARKS ON THIS BUT I THINK THAT THIS NEW APP IS CONSTANTLY CHECKIG IN WITH WHERE YOU ARE.

I'm basically back to where I was with my 1 year old 4, which I still have, though I am dissapointed that the battery usage didn't improve like it always had.  I would have easily traded better battery for whatever increased speed I'm supposedly benefiting from.
