Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I boughtt an iPhone 4s last week..I  had terrible batteyr life.. It didnt last  a day with light use. I watched the battery indicator drain . Two days ago I discharged the battery completely..to where the phone turns off. After I recharged the phone, my batteryr life is now good. I am happy . One thing I noticed as I was waiting for the phone to discharge, was that the last 20% or so of batteylasted a very very long time..with heavy use. I wonder if the battery was giving a false reading. and now afer the full charge it has righted itelf. ??

I have a brand new iPhone 4 and am having the same exact issues. I reset the network settings, turned off wi-fi and location services and fixed the brightness and still have to charge my phone everyday, even if it's on standby all day.

I think you may be referring to the post I made on page 167. With those settings and doing the full cycle charge a few times I am still getting very very good battery life. Sitting at 4hr usage and 8 standby with 47% left. With 5.0.1 in the works, if that further increases battery life I will be extermely happy with battery life on the 4S. We will see. The only time I had bad standby drain was yesterday when I was in a area that was switching between Sprint 1X and Extended 3G network service. I was I that area for about 4 hours and standby the whole time dropped from 85% to 60%. I assume it's because of the shotty reception but I thought I would throw it out there. Good luck guys and I look forward to 5.0.1 to compare.

I just want to add to the poor battery life lineup of people, apple states it is only affecting a few people but I think it is many more than they think, I had a iPhone 3G and could easily get 2 days on a charge, I was shocked to find out my iPhone was dead overnight the first night.  I did a complete recharge and again had to charge it in the evening only to find it was dead again in the morning, changed a few notifications and location services and it helped but it is still losing approx 10% an hour when it sleeps and way more when using it. I have also noticed I cannot shut the phone off by sliding the red off bar, it shuts down then starts itself back up in about a minute. Weird?  I cannot wait for the update and hopefully see a resolution to this problem.

I wonder if turning off things like WiFi tracking and other apps that use "Current Location" may help save some power. Even having your emails on "manual push" instead of automatic download may assist in power-saving. One of the most power-using functions are those that keep on using the "cell-phone signal" searching and updating stuff.

So glad to have seen this reported upon in the Tech section of CNN.com today, inc. about the expected upcoming software fix. Of course, I was close to pursuing this on my own. The 4S  is my first Apple product, and I've otherwise been generally thrilled, but I realized from very early on that the battery life wasn't even close to the promoted "amazing"... Wow, if this gets corrected, that'll actually mean that I won't reach the advertised "500+" full-recharges through my $100 Mophie Juice Pack Plus in just four months or thereabouts... :-)

shouldnt actually have to worry about what apps and services to turn on and off, it should last alot longer processing at the speeds that it is capable of. sort this out or im getting rid of my iPhone forever.

I always used to have droid but because of the glitches I finally decided I would try the Iphone and I love everything besides the battery... boy this is making me want more apple products. Come on apple step up and get this update out quicker my battery on this new 4s is horrid my old droid X had a better battery life by atleast half an hour and that is really saying something because droid's have the worst battery life out of all phones... atleast I thought so until I purchased the 4s. Please get that update out as fast as possible everyone that has this phone needs it!!

So the patch actually addresses some issues behind the scenes within the phone? My biggest nightmare is that the patch will just universally adjust the settings discussed on this forum (fixes which did nothing for my battery life), I'm trying to get confirmation from someone (hopefully you ) that the patch is a significant iOS improvement in a way that none of us could come close to with our makeshift, homemade fixes.

My wife and I each got a new iPhone 4S.  My battery life is fine but her's is awful. She had lots of notifications and bluetooth turned on while I did not, so we think that's part of the reason. But even after turning off notifications, her battery life is horrible. Could it be leaving bluetooth on? Will report back if we learn more.

I got my 4S on release date and have been charging 3 times a day in wait for a new phone I have turned most everything off this is the 4***** I'm just going to retune it since my 30 days is near and best buy has yet to get any 4s in. My husband chose to keep his 4 and I'm having to use his all the time because mine is dead his is still only needing charged every other day ...so sad to have a new phone I can't use ...none of the fix or delete or let go dead helped ... Last year I got the 4 with bad antenna and a sensor that didn't work I was stuck with it almost a year not believing apple this time! Mine is boxed up headed back to best buy!

Do a full discharge to phone shutdown on both, then a full overnight recharge. This needs to be done for every new battery in order to calibrate the lipo. It only has a storage charge on it NEW. The is about a 60% capacity only. If you just charge it right out of the box and start using it, YOU WILL GET FALSE USAGE READINGS.
