Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Finally I've my 4s white 16GB........ more than 20 hours in standby, more than 5 hours of heavy use (always surfing internet, gaming, wifi downloads, camera.......)......with still 20% of battery, after 1 full charge...... I'm quite happy better than my former Galaxy S....... :-)

I've had my iPhone 4 for 16 months and sort of noticed slightly faster battery drain after others started complaining.  So, following posted advice, I turned off Time Zone Settings last week and guess what?  Battery drainage dramatically improved, even better than before I upgraded to iOS 5.  For example, after 12 hrs of normal use (for me), I would be down to about 40%.  Well, after turning off Time Zone Settings, battery capacity improved to over 70%.  Then, just to see what would happen, I turned Time Zone Settings back on, and guess what happened?  Nothing!  The improvement remained!  Try it yourself and post your results.

I seemed to have had the battery drain issue for literally one day. Now I'm back to normal and the phone back to normal temps.... Again I changed nothing. My phone just decided to have the problem.. Then fix itself all in a day :/??

At the top right, click on Your Stuff and edit your preferences. Then, on the same page look for the Notifications tab and remove this discussion. Also check the menu on the right side of the page.

Thankyou at last no more emails on this issue. 4s battery dramatically improved by following apple's own advice about how to preserve battery life.

Apple can still make one of the best phone out there while preserving true mobility. They simply have to let go of the "hobbit form factor" in my opinion. No joke.

    Current 4S + battery: H: 4.5 in x W: 2.31 in x D: 0.37 in + 1x1450 mAh

    New "4XL" + battery: H: 6.0 in x W: 3.50 in x D: 0.50 in + 2x1900 mAh

rated for a full 12 hrs intense 3G internet use, 18 hrs moderate use, 16 hrs talk - 500hrs standby

Honestly, miniature is overrated and this would make it different than almost every smartphone out there i.e. battery would last. This could be easier to manufacture than their current model, have a sligthly bigger screen, sell for a bit less, and I am certain it would sell, most likely to every single person in this forum. Unlocked/no contract@500$ maybe even I will buy it

I mean, why does it have to be so so so small. Think different.

You can turn off Cellular Data and restrict your data usage to Wifi.  It's under Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data.  However you won't have phone/SMS service.

As for my phone, I have everything turned off (even Siri and iMessage) except Calendar in notifications center (phone, messages, reminders and mail are set to banner-only and display in lock screen), and Cellular Data.  I don't need notifications for those other things because I see the little red circled number when I have an unread/unviewed item on the home screen anyway. Brightness set to half with auto-brightness enabled.

Battery life seems good.  The full saturation charge can drop fairly quickly (100% - 90% goes faster than 90% - lower), which is expected from a lithium ion battery.  No real complaints... it's about what I expected.

I had the phone three days.  Turned all non essential notifications off and the thing can't hold a charge for a day, even if I don't even use it.  Charged it this morning to 100%, immediately pulled it off the charger.  Sent two text messages and was already at 95%.  Incredible.
