Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Why are people like you so impatient with this? Apple is working on a solution as we speak. This goes for all new pieces of technology, as I usually wait past the first wave to buy anything. Just give it time.

Hehe Mumuzee, I share your thoughts.

Spent around 700$ on a device that has issues which my Nokia 5110 from 1999 didn't have. Yes I realise it has a lot more functions than the model i've mentioned but what is the use if I am literarly scared to use them. I've come to be paranoid about leaving my house when the amazing iPhone 4S has less than 90% battery life.

Off topic: I'm also paranoid to sync my phone as I've just lost all my files. They must have synced into nothing since they are not on my PC or iPhone. Oh wait.. that was Apple kindly telling me to throw away my PC an purchase a Mac.

You almost make it sound like I should feel guilty forexpecting full functionality of my device. I did pay the full price…

I am not an engineer, nor do I plan to be one. For now, I am a simple university student and I rarely hand in my work when it is incomplete. When it so happens that I do hand it in short of completion, I take the TA’s comments gladly as it will help me improve my work.

    Go to Settings>General>Software Update ...

You will be allowed to download the delta update if you pay $199 and register yourself as iOS developer... its identified via your Apple ID.

i believe its on beta 2 now. Beta 3 will be out really soon to plug the security flaw (reported by Forbes http://www.forbes.com/sites/andygreenberg/2011/11/07/iphone-security-bug-lets-in nocent-looking-apps-go-bad/) before the official 5.0.1 version goes public.

Which problem did you have? Is your phone incomplete? Was your "completed work" without flaw?

You paid for a piece of magic which allows you to bring it back and get back your cash or exchange for another piece of magic. What more are you asking for?

I've figured out that having my phone exchanged helped a lot.

My problems were a lot more extreme than most descriptions I've seen though. I was losing around 10% battery an hour on standby. The "usage" reported in Settings>General>Usage was always greater than 50% of the standby number. I could take a 100% charged phone, leave it in my pocket doing nothing for 4 hours, and upon checking the usage it would report that usage was 2.5 hours with 4 hours standby, and the battery would have decreased to 55%.

After trying everything I got the phone replaced and the new phone seems much better. A few hours of standby now drain the battery by just a few percent.

(everything = many iterations of location services on/off and other settings optimisations, resetting all settings, restoring the phone, restoring the phone from dfu mode and running with 0 additional apps, no email and no contacts. I even tried the latest beta builds of iOS 5.0.1, but nothing helped that phone)

DONT HELP THE BETA 5.0.1?   I AM NOT SURPRISE............they have 2 trouble software AND

HARDWARE.....for ALL the FEATURES ON? NEED A BIGGER BATTERY PERIOD. THEY CAN DO 1900

    MAH at the SAME SIZE.

so this tread  will go 1 thousand pages and after the the relaese of 5.0.x  look to another tread like: IPS4

OS5.0.X  battery life. a 1495 mah battery wont do the job. (SIRI takes 1% /4 minutes of use.)

FRANKY932: Exactly wht i stated earlier and you just backed me up by confirming that Apple can't really do anything. They didnt wanna compromise the size of the phone but the battery is teh same with over 200 features with new iOS 5.0 and dual core processor . So, how can one expect that teh update will solve teh issue. It might for those who have bugs rite now like 15% drainage for 1 hour and for others it might increase the standby time by not using extra applications and terminate them as soon as you lock it but it's not gonna help your usage time. They can't cut siri in half lol? can they?it's still gonan use tons of processor .... the new extra features means extra juice from teh battery. But looks liek Apple did an experiment to make sure their iPhoen 5 will be perfect or as close to perfect. And we customers are now frustrated because they cant solve this issue.....

Well GOOD LUCK to us all!

Some phones like the Iphone are a bit small... for girlish hands I would say. Hopefully they can make a slightly bigger version, for toned arm men, which packs a bigger punch in terms of battery. Some of these phones look like a post stamp in my hands!

252 pages full of complains and there is not even one Apple's response?!?!?!

What's going on here? I paid 1000 USD for unlocked 4s and in this moment it's self turned off because my battery goes to 0% in less than 8 hours. The last 10% goes down in 1 hour with the phone in airplane mode?!?!??!

Come on Apple this is embarassing situation !

    whaaa... wwho.. huhh?

My work is not flawless but when someone points out the flaws, I show appreciation as it helps me improve.

I didn’t pay for magic. I paid for a phone, which by the numberof posts on this matter clearly has an issue.

Not really asking for anything else other than what I’ve agreed to pay for.

My line of thought here you see… If you constantly add morewood to the fire it will eventually grow. Merely hoping that as the fire grows,so does the concern of those in charge of putting it out.

As for other posts which suggest that I should tinker with my phone in countless ways to achieve normal performance or determine the cause of the problem… are you actually serious? Next time you gas up the car at the GAS pump and your engine fails because you’ve actually pumped DIESEL, pull out your toolkit and start figuring it out. Do not, under any circumstance, let the clerk or other fellow drivers know.

    I have a question...

If you used a "Location Based" reminder.... and you then complete the reminder, the location service still stays on...

Could this be an issue? As the phone is constantly polling the GPS ?

I have done all the suggestions and still have crappy battery life.

6pm... 100%. By 11:30pm... Completely dead. Not cool.
