Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I got the Iphone 4s a day back and left it for a full charge before i began using it.  I did like the phone, but what scared me was that the battery got drained from 100% to 25% in less than 5 hours and i had to put it back to charge. Is this something everyone faces? or are there tips to increase the battery life?

    Thanks

Original setup on phone 1 was everything off but email set to push. Then I realised that some of what I believed was OFF (Location Services) may in fact have been ON. Made at least 4 full restores from scratch not using any previous backups and ensured that all was really OFF as this is the case for my new 4S, setting email to On Demand. Even then battery was getting flat in less than 12 hours, phone got really hot at some occasions (had to switch it off at one occasion as it was getting hotter and hotter), network settings were lost, connection to mobile phone network went lost and could not be recovered without switching the unit OFF, ...

Thank you. One last question: was this in the same geographical location and using the same carrier for both phones?

I think putting things in perspective helps. And most people can rightfully get a refund if they're not fully satisfied.

Yet calling the Iphone a "piece of magic" is slightly over the top. I respect your opinion though. But please don't make fun of Nokia because the Nokia N9 is a piece of magic like the Iphone could never aspire to be in its wildest dreams - the only thing missing is a real app ecosystem and it'll never happen. So is the Lumia 800, albeit to a lesser extent.

See, I'll never understand Apple users and their fairy tales. Honestly I have an Audi car. I find it's beautiful. But at work I never try to convince my coworkers that it's "magic" or anything like that, yet I think it's much better than many American cars. I like that there are American cars around and I don't make jokes about GM dealers and such. I just don't know why I should always put down other brands simply because I like my car. I wish Apple users would see the light... of humility. I'm not talking about you because you showed in prior posts some sound logic which I could appreciate, but the more I hang around the more I find Apple users not only slightly girlish, but in the end very insecure. I hadn't noticed.

    Take care.

This is Apple's support forum. Calling an Apple product a piece of magic (just like what its founder called it) in Apple support forum, albeit tongue in cheek ... i think its all part of the pirates spirit. Outsider will not get it.

The N9 ... well, it is a piece of art. I admired its buttonless design and the sleek Meego UI. Maybe i am stupid... but there is a learning curve, unlike using Android (Eclair or Gingerbread) or WP7. No wonder they canned it.

Now, let's move on to "Boot to Gecko".

PS. Audi is nothing but a beefed up VW.

Yes. Same carrier, same SIM, same place where I put the phone at night, same environment at work. But totally different stories when it comes to battery life so far. I will re introduce email now (Corporate Exchange servers) but won't set it to push but on-demand. Let's see how this works after a day.....

Re B2G. Never heard about it honestly. I briefly looked but I can't see under which license it's being developped. I mean, I see CC-BY-SA for the wiki itself but anyways... food for thought I guess. Thank you.

This will maybe sound weird, but I would introduce a major change only once per full charge cycle.

    Good luck!

    Do this

    Go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

Go to Settings>Location Services>System Services ... turn off all except traffic and cell network search.

Then switch off your phone... and switch on again.

Drain your battery till 0%. Then charge it up to 100% and leave it charge continuously for at least 5 hours.

Report back here after 2 days and tell us how your phone perform.

by the way, its 11 deg C (52F) now in Geneva... and battery drains fast in low temperature. you know that.

B2G ... its a new mobileOS. By open source community of Mozilla... which gives us Firefox.

Its supposedly web based (ala HP Palm's WebOS)... but open sourced..

Let's see how far it will be developed.

It seems to be in very early stages but yeah, let's see. WebOS was really really cute.

But when I first read about B2G, I thought it actually was an open source universal "appstore" framework for mobile phones. I'm happy I misunderstood since I believe now all key players should agree on a standard store framework for apps and pool them all there and set their respective policies and of course the user sees different apps depending on his OS. And they should be using normal documented protocol for access and transfer lollll. Pretty sure the guy at Apple in charge of reading the thread is having quite a laugh too .

At the moment, B2G is piggy backing on Android... only handsets that run Android can be rooted to run B2G. Apps are supposedly HTML5 based... so anyone who code for HTML5 web app should be able to code /port the app to B2G. It will appeal to hackers... but not the normal users,

It's pretty clear the 4S (or iOS5) has been sold as a "work in progress", otherwise the problem would not be as widespread as it is. I would definitely consider "decent battery life" as a missing feature...

Of course, it does make you wonder what the "S" in "4S" actually means...

after reading many posts in this thread, I acquired an opinion which is that those who obtained the replacement of their iphone4S are satisfied with their new device when all their efforts to improve the battery time were not really successful.

    I also noticed one thing:

the ratio standby time/use time is at least equal  to 2 on  defectives

device while it's much higher on those whose owners are satisfied  ("3dmac" shows

    screen capture 23 hours standby 1hour used ! )

I fear the solution is to replace the unit hoping to get a good one....
