Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

    @Applefanboy666:

    That;s what i said in my earlier posts, that this was indeed an experimnet for apple, merely a work in progress. Now teh next one would be alot better because now Apple has learned teh lesson that they cannot optimize the phone to such a great deal with the same old battery and design. The battery has to becoem bigger for these heavier applications and hardware so it can provide more juice to the apps and procesor and otehr stuff. Now one can expect that iPhone5 will sure be bigger(not sure about thicker and will last longer because now ay Apple is getting away with all these features in iPhone5 plus some new and plus the LTE tech. and that would be teh beggie.

    So, yeah one can hope for a better gadget for next year or 2013 whenever it will eb released. But for now we are kinda screwed because we made a mistake buying the 4s right away, at least I did because my 3G was broken to bits by the 14th October.

    But seriously i am not ever gonna make this mistake again of bying a gadget right away when it is released. And noone should do that, wait and watch how things go and then you won't feel bad about yourself hasting into something that has wasted your time and investment and gave you headache.

    @umairz

    When you throw the phone, turn on location service and aim at Fedex, it will come to me at Atlanta just fine. I will put it in use for sure. LOL

    @umairz and @Applefanboy666

    I totally agree that we shouldn't be the first to buy the new gadget just came out. I wish I could listen to my friend about not buying immediately when the device was fresh in the market. Well, at least I could solve my problem by returning it but I lost money on data and activation fee and God know what else for being so stupid to get it immediately and using it for 10 days

    Just got a new iphone 4s last week (black 16GB)

    Can't believe how bad the battery is. I am using the default configuration with only 3G turned on (no -wifi)

    I charge my phone full before leaving the office @8 AM.  The battery is down to 50% by lunch and down to 5 % by 4 PM.  Have to charge it twice in a day !!  This is really ridiculous.  and I am not even using Siri.

    Hope apple fixes this soon.  Can't be carrying around the phone with a charger attached the whole day !!

    Read the earlier posts of this forum and try some of the things and that might get you going at least for a day with one full charge and still if it does'nt work throw your phone out of the window! or otherwise all 4S are going to die pretty soon because of heat generation and battery failure!

    Good luck! but make sure to try few things  suggested on this forum and that might help!

    When I see my iPhone battery going down (I see it and I feel it since the phone is quite warm), it helps a lot to turn on Flightmode for some time.

    I do not have the problem constantly, but when I stream music (with DI.fm App) and have it plugged on to my computer for charging the phone gets extremly hot. After unplugging the phone (and stop streaming) the battery goes from 100% to 0% in about 8 hours without even using it.

    For me it seems like the phone uncharges the battery or the WiFi connection does not close properly after stop streaming.

    As said, Flightmode helps to stop it from uncharcharging, but it seemes to me that turn off WiFi only did not.

    I hope it is a software bug and the fix is released really quick. It is really annoying to have half of the features turned off when getting a brand new phone.

    I notice if I have the cell on 3G (verizon), the phone will drain up to 10% per hour, if i have only wifi on, but with same level of use, including using google-voice to text or use imessage, then I can get through 10 hours and still have the battery be at 90%.  Is the battery drain cell service related?

    It wouldn't surprise me if many of the folks with actual battery use issues have their 3G connection enabled.

    It also would not surprise me if many of the people who think they have a bad battery are actually just using their phone a lot and not realizing that their phone activities drain a lot of power.

    So what kind of connection should I use if I can't connect to Wi-fi at work?

    I think you misunderstood my post. It wasn't a suggestion to turn of 3G, but merely hypothesizing that the current standby battery issues might be related to 3G. If your only option is 3G, then use 3G.

    Got it. And that might be also the culpit of my battery issue because it drained out like crazy. But honestly I don't know. Connected to wi-fi at home still had the same problem. After the 2nd reset, it seemed fine with idle/standby as long as I didn't touch the phone and do something, then the battery didn't seem draining out fast. So much headache for using the phone

    @prkgs982:

    Why would you use your phone for 3G? That's too much! Use your computer man? This phone is menat only to make calls! That's it!

    FYI:SARCASM....because some peopel don't usually get it!

    Just wanted to say that I have tried most of the turn everything off, full discharges battery doctor pro and reinstall of of IOS5. Prior to the full install I was recording lots ++++++ of error messages in the Diagnosis & Usage. But know 2 today's on have 9 recorded. None of the awrd ones which went in to hundreds. Just wondering if other noticed a reduction.

    Adding that I think my 4s falls into the using the battery more quickly than my previous 4. I bought a 4 on the original date and took it back as the battery was woeful. Hoping I don't have to do the same with this 4s.

    here's hoping for the fix ASAP

    The first 2 weeks the battery life of my iPhone 4S was pretty good. Now in the last few days, it's going down quicker than the Titanic.

    Bluetooth off, wifi off, location services off, mobile data (3G) off etc. Tried everything else that's been suggested but nothing seems to work. At 11pm last night my phone was fully charged and showing as being at 100%. Decided to switch it into Airplane Mode, checked it 6 hours later and it's down to 40%. That's a 10% loss in battery every hour with everything switched off and the phone in Airplane Mode. Try it out of Airplane Mode and it drops 15% - 20% an hour and that's when it's not in use!

    Crazy but if I should (perish the thought) need to make/receive any calls I'll need to have my phone plugged in charging. Kind of defeats the purpose of a mobile phone when you need to be permanently plugged into a wall socket charging it.
