Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Udpating the processor, no.  Apple is working on a software update that is reported to be available in a 2-3 weeks.  When it's available, you may be prompted by your phone to do the update.  You can check periodically by clicking on Settings>General>Software Update.

I am the same as radio50. I do not have a battery problem at all. Been using it today at work, and its at 77%. Had a local contractor come into the office today, he said he did not have a problem either with his. I am scratching my head wondering why some have bad battery issues and some do not.

This is really THE good question!

have all iphone4S exactly the same hardware ?

                   using same brandt of components...

Probably Apple should know the truth. People having battery problems on their devices

are really as few as Apple said ? if yes, Then the problem comes from hardware and devices

should be exchanged for good ones. Should not be a big problem for Apple for a "so low  number....

This is the best I have gotten so far. I had my original 4s replaced at the local Apple store. Calibrated battery once, this will be my second time.

I get no more than 8 hours of battery life out of my 4s before a charge is needed.  Usage is what I consider light.  It does drain in Standby mode.  During one day's usage, I had to charge after 4 hours of use.  That is a battery problem!  I look forward to the 5.0.1 release.

This is ridiculous >> I have all extras turned off, brightness at 30%, locations and notifications turned off, and after a one hour phone call (stupid Shaw Cable), and NO TUNES AT ALL TODAY, my battery is less than 10%.

Apple needs to get the lead out and FIX THIS, not in a few weeks, but like in a FEW DAYS!!

I had to return my iphone 4S in the mail. The apple store here didn't want to swap my iphone for a new one. And even when I tried returning it at the apple store, they wouldn't take it. I had to call apple and set up the return that way. I didn't want to be stuck with an iphone with a horrible battery life if Apple never fixes the issue. Remember the proximity sensor fix in the iPhone 4 last year? yeah... If I have to return it every 29 days I will. I might have to go back to my Iphone 4.

It could be a combination of factors that triggers the battery drain that's only present in some people's phones. The firmware plus perhaps a specific setting plus some specific background process (third party or otherwise).

That would affect some but not all of the phones. Mine's severely affected and this weekend I'm planning on trying to puzzle it out by installing 3rd party apps one at a time (since I only have a handful on the phone anyway).

Not all iPhones which have the battery issue are running the same software or same versions for that matter.

Because each person's software setup is different. HW reacts to the SW settings.  A "correct" corrupted calendar entry could cause a sync loop.  A wifi router with a randomly bad encryption could screw things up.  Just a few of the hundreds of things SW can screw things up.

    All,

I finally am able to converve the battery to have 50% of battery life .

I have one email account and one exchange account synced with push turned off and fetch set at 1 hr.

all the rest is the same, all notifications on and on the lock screen as well.

I have even enabled i cloud sync for apps and docs.

My daily use is to check mail on both exchange and personal almost like 25-50 a day and on call for about 90-120 mins on a normal use and when i come back from work after 8-10 hrs i am still left with 50% of battery charge .

The change which made every thing happen was to turn off Push and enable fech 1hr.

    Thanks guys

    This worked for me:

I've been following all the suggestions in this thread, with minimal success.  What finally made a huge difference for me was to turn off Facebook's GPS ability, in the Locations Services settings.  Something about Facebook location-awareness really drains the battery, even if it's not currently active.

I was originally having a huge problem with the battery draining quickly on my iPhone 4s.  With a 100% charge at 8:00 AM, my battery was down to 30% by 12:00 PM.  I was used to still having at least 50% battery life left by the time bed time came around with my old iPhone.   I was ready to return it and go back to my iPhone 4 but I tried two things that seemed to solve the problem for me.  The first thing I did was a factory reset and then I set the phone up as a new phone without doing any kind of restore.  The battery drain was a lot better after the reset but still not acceptable.  The next thing I did was to charge the phone to 100% and then left the phone on until the battery drained to the point where the phone powered itself off.  After the complete drain I recharged the phone overnight.  After the battery drain and recharge cycle my phones battery life has been pretty close to what it was on my old iPhone 4.

I have navigation turned off, and with my phone locked I lose battery at a terrible rate. I have iCloud turned off, it's not even enabled at this point as well. Hey Apple, I'll test 5.0.1 for you!!!! Please just help me!

Day 2: Started @ 9am with 100%. Had push on for my office exchange. Manual check for another account. Regularly checked my mails on both accounts and calendar (every half hour). Few calls. Few texts. 30 mins of music. 20 mins of kindle ebook reading. Wifi constantly on. Ended day @ 11pm with 60% charge. Wifi on overnight. Morning 7am @ 50% charge.

My iPhone 4S was fully charged at 23:00pm, I woke up this morning around 6am the battery was completely drained. It doesn't matter if I have it in flight mode, iCloud turned off or with or without SIM card.

I've reset the phone, twice, and I've kept it as factory default over night.

It doesn't matter what I do, or what I turn off - fully charged it only lasts about 4-6 hours or less.

When I'm on a call it drops about 1% every 2 minutes.

Forget about using Siri, playing games or making a call.

As of right now, my iPhone is nothing more than a paperweight until the patch arrives.
