Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I went to the genuis bar yesterday.  they said wait for the update.  i updated last night and now it's worse.  i want a new phone 4s to replace this POS!!! And not a refurbished one.  I didn't pay top dollar to have to return a brand new POS for a refurb.  now i have to spend more time going back to the genius bar wiatning and hoping they actually do something for me this time!!!  I'd be more than happy to help with any testing, etc.  Apple, feel free to contact me!!!

Please do the following: go to general - reset - reset all settings (the first row). It worked fine on my 4S. I enabled the status bar in location - system, and now thw purple arrow for time zone pops up every now and then, which is perfectly normal, I guess. And when it pops up it's on for 4-5 seconds tops. Problem solved, hopefully! ios 5.0.1 may not be that bad, after all...I'll let you know in a couple of days. Cheers!!!!

I was getting about 10-12 hours of battery life on my 32GB 4S before the upgrade, which made it just about acceptable for business if I was careful about how much I used the phone and apps.

Last night I want out and get only about 6 hours of life after upgrading to 5.0.1.  When I was on wireless the whole phone started to get hot, which is something I did not see with the original operating system.  I turned off wireless and blue tooth and the phone started to cool down.

I also keep all apps turned off when not in use by double pressing the home button and turning off each app - I have tried just about every recommendation in these posts with no improvement.

6 hours makes my phone practically unusable as a business phone - I need to go out today for some meetings and I will be on the road for 8 hours with no opportunity to charge - I am just hoping that I don't miss an important customer call because of this issue.

Is there any way back to the original operating system even as a temporary measure?

I agree with other posters - if Apple can't solve this issue on my phone, I want a new phone and not a refurbished phone.  I would also be willing to help Apple with any testing.

Please Apple, lets try and make the next update improve things and not make things worse.

With 5.0.1 my phone went from 100% to 45% while I was asleep. The odd thing is that usage shows almost 4 hours of usage. Going to do a restore and setup as new phone next.

I'm having the same problem. The ios 5.0.1 'update' has made my battery drain even faster. Didn't even last 5 hours today.

I hope Apple is reading these forums.  The 4s was my first iphone, and it will most likely be my last.  My original Droid had better battery life.  In fact I think everyone cell phone I have ever owned had a better battery. So much for the pursuit of perfection

Since the 5.0.1 Update my iPhone is no better than the first day that I used it (I have only had it 2 days.)  I went with the iPhone from a Motorola Droid X2 which has about the similar battery life.  I have installed the update, restored and gone through the routine in MacWorld for shut down of the various services, as well. This is the first product that I have had from Apple that I am not satisified with (Apple !, Origional MAC, MacBooks, MacBookPro, PowerBook G4, 3 iPads, 2 Ipods including the new Touch) so I have over the years been very impressed with the product line and its functionality.

The iPhone 4S is a disappointment.  It is not much fun to have to turn off all the Bells and Whistles in order to survive the best part of a day without charging.  If you folks at Apple are reading the mail "how about getting it fixed."

Having downloaded the 5.0.1  software my 4s battery has collapsed - it usually uses 70% in a day (from 0700-2300) has now gotten even worse and without a single call or much use has rocketed to 70% used in 6 hours. My usage pattern and its location are all as they are every working day.  I am on Vodafone on an unlocked UK phone not 400 yards from a Vodafone full GSM mast site.

How can it possibly have gotten WORSE Apple - what have you done this time?

This is exactly what I'm going to do later on as I did realise that prior to restoring from a backup, the purple arrow didn't appear when time zone location service is on. I guess sometimes you just have to start from fresh.
