Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Hi guys, I'm new to this forums and to an iPhone... I've bought my first iPhone 2 days ago (an iPhone 4s) and I must admit, the battery life simply *****! It's unbeliavable, typing a status and checking facebook drains 2% of my battery, this is just insane. I was glad to find out that I'm not the only one with this problem. I researched online and saw all of Apple customers complaint about it, and realised that Apple didn't really care as much until the media kicked in.

So yesterday I've downloaded the new 5.0.1 update, because Apple promised to fix the battery life issue, however I found no sing of battery improvement what so ever (my Location Services and Time Zone are both set to OFF). I think they've released this update in order to shut us up for a little bit, because Apple knows that it's not a bug BUT a hardware problem!

I hope Apple can come up with an idea to fix this problem a.s.a.p. or they're going to lose a lot of customers. I'm starting to slowly regret from not buying phones like BlackBerry 9900 Bold, Samsung Galaxy S2 or the new HTC. I'm so dissapointed in the battery life...

    What do you think guys?

Same here unfortunately. My battery on the 4S was already draining badly before the 5.0.1 update - so much so that when I was out all day away from being able to plug in I was carrying two different rechargers. Admittedly I use the phone a lot (9 email accounts, whatsapp, multiple phonecalls and some browsing) but still found the battery life poor.

I installed 5.0.1 last night. This morning after I unplugged from the charger and before I got to the door was at 98% having done nothing. Is now 1520hrs and 5 or so quick phonecalls and emails received I am down to 40%. When i was at 60% i tried turning off Siri (a friend told me he had) to see if that made a difference. No.

When blackberry brought out the 9900 I jumped on it - but then hated it for having a bad battery. When BB's service died for 3 days I gave away the 9900 and cancelled my BB service - because the 4S came out and I figured this would be a good thing. Rapidly reconsidering this decision now.

Battery Life still bad after 5.01 upgrade. I have also lost contact id's when receiving messages. Instead of the sender's name appearing in the alert screen, it only shows their mobile number. Probably my first and last iPhone. If Apple offered me a full refund I would take it and by a Droid.

Downloaded the new 5.0.1 iOS on my 4S last night. Charged overnight and as of this morning with the exact same settings I would say my battery life looks to be about the same or slightly worse with the new OS. And I was unhappy with the battery life from the beginning compared to my old 4. Ugh.

Unbelievable! I installed the "Fix" last night as I couldn't wait to again enjoy my pre software "upgrade" battery life and was shocked to wake up this morning with a drained battery. I'm done. This Apple household is definitely reconsidering the use of Apple phones....my daughter's 4S has the same problem. I just called support and requested reinstalling the old software (which was fine) and was told that it could not be done. A software "fix" that doesn't work? Sounds like the "other" tech company. This once tried and true believer has to reconsider the various options available...as robust battery life was one of the main reasons for choosing the Apple smart phone...

With ios 5.0.1 I thought my battery got worse as well, but I charged it to 100 percent and I compared it to my 3GS and it was better; I got 3.5 standby hours with like 1.5 usage, and the battery was only down to 92. And that 1.5 hours of usage was mainly streaming music.. So it is better than it was, but is it what they say?

    My config:

    LOCATION SERVICES: ON

PUSH NOTIFICATIONS : POSSIBLY ONE APP

    SETTING TIME ZONE:  ON

    BLUETOOTH; OFF

    WIFI: ALWAYS ON

you get the picture, I'm finally using the phone the way I want, not what apple says

I'm not sure you can go back. But if you can go back. You would need to restore it your phone to your last back up.

Just got off the phone with a helpful Apple rep. Said I was the first caller regarding this issue in ios 5.0.1 so he was very curious to take a lot of info from me. Ultimately he told me to do a "low level" install when I get home, and try it for 24 hrs. Hopefully this will fix the issue.

Im not nearly as bad off as some of you guys, but I'm at 84% and I've not done much at all this morning. It definitely seems to be worse, NOT better. Stay tuned

+1 to the battery woes; however, I'm a little different in that I have run the beta for iOS 5.0 on my iPhone 4 which had these same problems with battery life (except for the last beta **before** the golden master release).  Every other beta I ran had the same rate of battery use.

I've since upgraded to an iPhone 4S with the same battery issues (a few days after launch).  I ran the iOS 5.0.1 beta 1 & 2 and still experienced the same battery usage rates.

Apple, if you're looking for beta testers to help debug this please ping me.  I know I'm a fairly heavy user, but I've been putting up with this since June and I'd love to help find a solution...

    Greetings from Austria!

I have an iPhone 4 and i had no battery problems with iOS 5. But since iOS 5.0.1 is out it looks like my iPhone wont last a day.

After updating my iPhone i fully recharged it and after one hour, without doing anything on the phone, the battery droped to 89 percent. Now it has 33 percent. And i really didn't do much on my iPhone today. This is insane...i really hope they fix it very very soon.

    Hi folks,

    same for me:

Installed 5.0.1 from Itunes yesterday. Got phone to complete 0% in 7 with wifi, location turned off and just texting and safari browsing (about 30 min).

Fully discharged the battery (as some claimed for it to help), picked up 100% phone 30 min ago - now checking - 95%.

So standby mode - 10 hours (did manual said - 200??)

I installed IOS 5.0.1, did a restore  then charged my phone to 100%. Put on pandora let it play for an hour only dropped 9%. I suggest people to do a restore after installing IOS 5.0.1, pretty happy as of right now. I'll post a screen shot at 1% battery left to show usage.

I think you may be right.  I am tempted to try a restore myself.

Before the update i have no problems....but after the update it seems i have a problem now with my iPhone 4S, after 15 minutes of Safari use, the battery dropped down by 5%. That doesn't seems good. I also want to go back to 5.0.
