Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

The problem with iPhones and phones you listed is that they do too much. If you want a phone that uses les battery. You might want to just get a regular "plain Jane" phone. If you do not need weather or stocks to be streamed to you constantly, Facebook notifications, email notifications and other  notifications constantly popped up. Then get a phone that doesn't have the capability to do those things. Because unfortunately these capabilities take battery to perform. If you can't do that or don't want to walk around with an old phone. Then go to your settings for your notifications and manually turn the push notifications off to simply improve your battery life.

I totally disagree. Then why did Tim Cook get up in front of the world and tout this phone (4S) as the greatest phone available. And that the battery was a much better battery. Yes, these phones do a lot, but that's the point. And Apple is supposed to be a technology leader, so they should be able to support and back up what they are selling, and what they are claiming. Apple, please get on the ball here...

The more I read these forums, the more convinced I am that this is an issue more specific to the 4S than the 4. When you look at the specs of the 4 and 4S, they are virtually identical barring minor changes like improved camera, etc. In terms of what uses significant power, they are basically the same device and yet the standby times (from Apple's marketing) indicates 300 hours of standby on the 4 but only 200 hours of standby on the 4S.

I'm trying to think what would account for the 100 hour difference in standby time; I think it has to be either the new cellular radio or the light sensor for Siri (which is apparently always on so it can detect when you've brought the phone to your ear for voice commands; on the 4, this sensor only turns on when you are actually making a call)

i start to think i have a good battery overall inside my 4S, seeing some cases over here, i am in the group of people that the slight usage drain like crazy group, i still didnt updated to 5.0.1 because we cant go back and still didnt see any reports of good improvments so far. still i made a test this is the 7 full cycle i made since i bought the phone, i have everything off, except celular data and imessage, because if i turn it off i wont receive any text messages, everything else-BT,icloud,siri, location, push, only 1 email account, notifications, weather, calendar, wifi, everything OFF.

charged at night from 0% to 100% around 7hours and removed from the charger as 9 A.M.

    received 4 text messages

    1 call of 2/3minutes

here is a print of when i noticed the drop to 99%

    photo.PNG

quite good in fact 5hours of standby to loose the first % is great

now the when i took this picture turned on wifi to email it, it dropped to 98% just 2 minutes later

just took another showing the drop to 98% and emailed it also

    photo1.PNG

then i went into settings again to see what settings i had off so i can post here dropped to 97%

everything i do drops % every single time

and it will continue droping and now more easly then the first %.

still i think i cant really complain watching some cases here of intense drainage, but this phone is really hungry for juice... wish i could predict this before selling my iphone4, all i can do i not to recomend this to anyone that asks me about the 4s.

this might show if your battery is good or bad, turn off everything and charge it to 100%, if the mantains 100% for some standby hours it should be ok, the crazy usage drain is just the problem of the 4s in general and there is nothing we can do, it will only get worse in time.

just as i already said, imagine the battery of the 4s whit 1 year and 1000 charges on it, one 15min call will drop 40% hehehe My God.

It's getting worse after upgrade to 5.0.1. It dropped 20% last night versus 10% with 5.0.

Totally disagree. I do not use my phone much at all, and prior to the upgrade, my battery life was great. It would stay charged on standby for almost 3 days....now, with the same use patterns, I have to charge the phone several times per day. Even if I used my phone a lot, I would expect Apple to furnish a product, and software, that could deliver robust battery life as the competition is able to do. The bottom line here is that Apple whiffed on the 5.0 upgrade and whiffed on the "fix". Let's see what the 3rd pitch brings....

It's the software. I have a 4 and the "upgrade" decreased my battery life at least 40%. It is my understanding that the same software is used for the 4 and the 4s. So those who have the 4s will experience the problem and those with the 4, who unwittingly pressed the upgrade button when they connected to ITUNES (like I did) are also plagued with the "Battery Bug".

Same here... Battery life after 5.01 update (was just as bad before update) is horrid on the 4s.  I haven't made it an entire day without it needing charged under normal usage.  And FORGET trying to run a GPS required application... It drains on average 1% every 2 minutes when using GPS.

I agree battery life is still a joke after updating to 5.0.1. If anything it seems to drain even faster.

Same here as well. Battery drains faster and faster with no use. The update doesn't help

Updated to 5.0.1  plugged in phone last night. After 7 hours of charging this morning it was only at 93%. It's never done that before- I've never had a problem fully charging it. Something really strange is going on.  Charging it with my iPad charger.

I was expecting poor battery life on my 3gs when I upgraded to iOS5 but it has been really bad.  The worst part is I also updated a 3 month old Ipad 2 and instead of staying charged for 3-4 days before charge is needed it only lasts half that time.   Great example.  I fully charged the ipad on friday during work, by sunday at 11 am it was completely dead.  The wonderful part of this whole thing was it say in my office bag unused that whole time.  if I did not use it before the update it would last 7-8 days without charging or longer.

Not sure what the bug is but it is not directly related to the 4s, it is related to iOS5 and some poor programming.

My battery life was horrible on iOS 5.0. It was MUCH improved, I would say AS good as my iPhone 4 with iOS 5.0.1 beta 1. Once they updated to iOS 5.0.1 beta 2 the battery life was a little bit worse. Now with this final version it is absolutely horrible.

I really wish Apple would get on the ball here. They had more than enough time to work this stuff out. If not it should have been delayed. I guess they forgot what happened when Steve wasnt around the last time.

Even though Steve said not too, they should ask "What would Steve do?" Which would be not to ship a piece of garbage UNFINISHED piece of software.
