Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

    I agree. It's the software.

I upgraded my 3GS to 5.0.0, and it started having the same battery issues that my 4S has...a week before I even got the 4S.

the problem is that the 4s will never see a 4.x ios test, since only 5.0 or above, so we will never know if the ios4 could improve a bit the battery comsuption in the 4s.

True. All we know is that after the 5.0.0 software upgrade (which happened around the time the 4S was released), the battery issue occured.

    What now APPLE?

I have to agree...this was not a fix!  Downloaded 5.0.1 and then charged the device over night, only to find it after 8 hours, setting at 97%.  I have done a reset as a new phone and going to run the battery down until it shuts off in hopes it "resets" the battery.  I REFUSE to turn everything off - why have a state of the art device if I can only use it as a "telephone".

Not going to throw in the towel - may we all just need to call Apple and call Apple and call Apple to make sure they are hearing us and get this problem fixed.  I don't think we will ever have the battery life we're dreaming about, however, it's got to be better than what most of us are experiencing.

I updated yesterday and charged my phone to 100%. Took it off the charger an hour ago and with minimal use (3 texts,a phone call, and now posting here) I am down to 77%. In an HOUR. I will NOT turn off locAtion services, I will not turn off Siri, I will not turn off notifications. This is a $600 phone that I am paying a big bill on every month. I love Apple, I support Tim Cook, I stand behind the brand. I waited patiently for this fix to come out because i understand there are going to be bugs in a new product. But I'm not an idiot. I am very upset today and am deciding whether to return the phone.

    What do we now?

Many of us here have tried all the tweaks, resets, restores, locations and notifications on/off and now upgraded to 5.0.1 and still see the battery draining very quickly with upwards of 10%/hour when in "standby".

Checking the usage shows that some processes are clearly running in the background - even with all apps closed and that's what killing the battery.

I think that most people would be fine with 6-7 hours actual usage as long as that is within ~ 24 hour period.

At the moment many are getting way less than that.

    Something is seriously wrong.

Got my iPhone 4S yesterday(in NL), changed from my good old Nokia (with bad and almost 3 yrs old battery which last longer on a full load compared to the 4S) smart to the 4S.

Used the 4S yesterday at iOS 5.0.0, today at 5.0.1. Last night more than 10 hrs charging completely off, started with clean 100% this morning and immediately jumping down to 99% and 98%.

Am losing at least 10% of my battery per hour with light use.

Update to 5.0.1 did not change anything. Followed all the advise from this forum and have everything off exept for my company mail and wifi.

Will keep my Nokia up and running as 4S drains far to fast, not workable for business.

No good! Need a 5.0.2 battery fix !

Alright guys listen up. I've finally managed to do a full restore and set up the phone as new as opposed to restoring from a backup. The location service arrow icon does not permanently stay on as it used to when I restored from backup. For me, there seems to be an issue with my backup and probably the same with other people here. As long as you have used icloud to sync your contacts, notes and reminders, your phone will just download those from the cloud so you won't lose your main data. I'll have to re-add all the apps again, but thats not a problem.

Sometimes you just have to start from fresh and it has worked for me.

My iphone 4 under 5.0.1 is no better also, and may be a little worse.  It does ok just idling, but the minute I actually USE the phone for something, the battery just gets sucked away.  This morning I unplugged it and let it sit, and it was still at 100% when I picked it up several hours later.  That's better than before, BUT--in 15 minutes of reading email and browsing through this thread, I went from 100% down to 95%.  That's ridiculous.

Apple, please fix!!!  And do it right this time, please?

this is not good, many people waited for the 5.0.1 for a decent fix, now that the fix dont fix anything, i bet a bunch of people will now return their 4s, sick and tired of these initial problems.

and now that many will return... apple should take this matter more serious

whit the antenna gate  we could live, at least it was present in mine but didnt made me any difference or bother me in usage.

but now whit battery problems, it affects even the fanboys, it just too much to handle for a so expensive phone.

    too big of a problem.

Last Night at 11 p.m I dates app to 5.0.1.

My battery showed a full 100%, after the update it was by 98%. That was ok because of the work the CPU had to do.

After that I switched on the airplane mode and went to bed, still with 98%.

This morning, when I woke up, I was shocked to see that the capacity has drowned to only 84%!!!!!'

A decrease of 14% while being in airplane mode?

What the heck is going on?

I'm also noticing that battery life is worse.  I just updated to 5.0.1 about 45 minutes ago... the phone had been charging all night and was still plugged in to perform the update.  After unplugging the phone, it has dropped 6% in the last half hour.  I will see how the rest of the day goes.

My concern is this: Nov. 14th is coming up very soon - the last day I can return the phone for a refund.  If this is an inherent problem with the 4s and Apple is unable to fix the battery problem, I don't want to be stuck with a phone that inherently has a horrible battery life for the next two years - it's only going to get worse as the battery ages.

Yep... with only the Settings app running in the background, it's dropping 1% about every 5 minutes... now at 93%.

    This is not good!
