Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

@5.0.0 battery life was awful and reception was bad.  Now with 5.0.1 batterlife is even worse and now reception is horrible. I've even turned off cellular data and at my desk where I spend a lot of time I don't have a signal !!

Do everyone have the same problem ?  Or are some "batches" of the phone better?

I guess the problem gets a lot worse in areas with a poor 3G-network (like where I am).  I really miss my 4-non-S now...

Same here... Battery life after 5.01 update (was just as bad before update) is horrid on the 4s.  I haven't made it an entire day without it needing charged under normal usage.  And FORGET trying to run a GPS required application... It drains on average 1% every 2 minutes when using GPS.

I am getting the same.  This is the biggest offender in my case.  1% drain every 2 minutes when using GPS.

It is really sad because other than the battery, this phone is absolutely amazing. I'm in love with it. But sometimes love isn't enough.

Ba55man thats exactly the same as me. Battery is fine when screen is off on standby. As soon as it's on and looking at anything the battery drain is 1% ever 1-2 minutes which is unacceptable.

I am sure it will be fixed quickly.  That is apple's style.  They will figure out what is going on and fix it.

Yes, I updated to 5.0.1 as well and am not seeing any battery life improvement. If I dont use the phone, is around 8% battery loss an hour normal?

I thought the battery life on my 4S with 5.0.1 was just as dismal as it was with 5.0, but now after using if for a while, I realize it's worse.  I'm not about to freak out and just return the phone though.  Apple will figure it out, they're not a bunch of idiots over there.

Same here - Batt life is no better for me, if any a little worst!

I did the 44Mb upgrade - do you think installing the whole update with iTunes would be better????

After the first few hours I thought my battery life had improved, but it appears it didn't. I ended up returning my over priced $55 Otterbox case, and getting a 2100mah battery case for $10 more. THAT has solved the issue, as I am still running on the external battery a day later, with heavy use, bright screen and everything on. It's ashame that had to be the solution, but it was either that or go through the hassle of returning the phone and paying the restocking fees.

My battery life after the update is also much worse than it was before. It went down 6% in half an hour with barely any use at all. Is this something anyone has gone to an Apple store for and get it replaced, or should we wait for Apple to release another update?

To the guy who said doing a full restore fixes battery issues - not true. My wife did a full restore this morning and having had a 'normal' days use is down to 40%. I am down to 29% now since my last post having done nothing active other than 3 whatsapp messages (passively it is receiving email though). Just to be clear - I have time zone location services and Siri switched off.

To the poster who said that one should expect short battery life because the phone does so much, nonsense. Battery life on other products with similar functionality and specs are at least tolerable and at best remarkable (witness some Android devices dare I say) - this feels like a bug. At least I hope so...

My iPhone4 is having the same issue with 5.0.1.  It dropped from 77% to 72% in 15 minutes without having any apps open or having me use the phone at all.

3 minutes later 27%. 2% in 3 mins with only pressing home button to monitor battery.
