Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

it's interesting to note that while my phone states 58% remaining, apps like Boost Magic and System Stat Lite report 55% then 60% as I watch them BOTH change in from of my eyes.  In the mean tine the phone still reports 58%.

That's because apps don't have access to the exact battery percentage, only the nearest 5%.

My iPhone 4s shows under Settings - General - Usage last full charge:

    6 Hours 57 Minutes Usage

    Standby 10 Hours, 33 Minutes

The real use was about 1.5 Hours

    What caused this phantom using?

    And now it's empty.

This is ridiculous. Before iOS 5.0.1 i managed two days without recharging. And now not even one day!

Mine had not batter issues whatsoever since launch, did the update everything seems fine unplugged 2.5 hrs ago been playing music through my work out and at work, on dropped 10%  so i am one of the lucky few i guess, idk for sure but the ones experiencing problems should chill out and give it a little time.

you also got to factor in your settings, how good your service is in some places and what not. bad service equals fast drop rate in battery life.

Likely an app running in the background that's preventing the phone from going into Standby.    Normally apps aren't allowed to keep the phone from going into Standby unless they are active, but some can do this (VOIP, GPS, etc apps).   The easiest way to test this is to reboot the phone and see if it will go into Standby at that point.

Note that some apps register to run when the phone is booted up (usually VOIP apps).  Running an app that can display process listings is useful for determining if apps do this or not.  It's also useful for determining which apps are running when you are having problems.

I know that is not the solution... but I will try

I will buy a Mophie. I know that is not a solution but can help us to survive and enjoy the iPhone.

Expensive, but worth to pay to save my battery

    Hope that helps.

Some people here are using and they are loving.

With all due respect, you should not have to factor in your settings. The phone is marketed with these features and you should be able to use them. I am not buying all this stuff about the settings using the battery and turn them off if you want to save your battery life. That's nonsense and I myself will not do that as a solution. There is something wrong with the battery - whether it's hardware or software I don't claim to know - and the fix is NOT to turn off the features that made you buy the phone in the first place. Apple never said in its advertising for the iPhone 4s that "use of features depend on your ability to withstand massive battery drain within a matter of minutes".

I pre-ordered my 4S on 10/12.  So I too have a phone from early manufacturing.  I did notice an improvement from the upgrade to 5.0.1.  But I never had 'horrible' battery life, it just didn't last a full day (with lots of phone calls and usage.) However, I am meticiulous about completely closing apps I don't need running in the background (like Facebook, Plex, LinkedIn, Games, etc.)  I don't use Facebook all day or anything.  So for the way I use and manage my phone, the battery life is good.

Maybe robineck is onto something here.

Since last full charge (did update to 5.0.1 last night before bed then charged until just before 7am this morning when battery was at 100%):

Usage 5h3m (just noticed it tick up a minute while I was reading it to type)

Standby 10h32m (which is about right)

So I spent 50% of my time on my phone?

    Cellular Usage is odd too:

    Current period 8h2m

Lifetime 15d16h (is this really possible since this is an iphone4s?)

    Not sure...
