Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

When Apple pushed out the update, did they list the items that they were fixing?  If so, where can I find this information?

I recently updated to I OS 5.0.1 and seen no change in battery life. I currently can go two days on a 100% charge and still have 15% left before bed the second night. My location services stays on 24/7 and I turn off Wi-Fi when away from home. My email is set up to a manual fetch. I stream at least 2 hours of video and 1 hour of face time in two days. I send over 100 text messages and downloading apps is my job. I also have an aver age of 1 hour of talk time. I silent sounds while at work and that includes turning off vibration. Last of all I always drain my battery to 1% before charging again. I hope this helps but probably will just make people jealous.

This update (5.0.1) hasn't improved my battery at all. It lost 7% on standby during the night and it's lost about 30% today with minimal usage. I know these numbers aren't as bad as some people were experiencing but I think they are still way to high for what the phone should be capable of. 200 hours of standby should mean that the battery drops at 1% every 2 hours on standby. It seems to be dropping at about 1% every hour, so twice as fast as it should.

Please fix this Apple. I love my iPhone but there's nothing worse than a bad battery.

PS. I've already had my battery replaced once at the Apple Store a week or so ago. No improvement.

Go to Settings>General>software update and it will tell you the fixes in the update

I'm not seeing any improved battery life either with 5.0.1. I just went to read an article and then opened another app and it dropped 3% in less than 5 minutes. I don't understand what is happening.

Well I hate to add to the bad news.  Mine got worse as well.  I noticed it drop 15% this morning with little use in 1 Hour!  Before the update it was 12% per hour.  My 4 was way better than my 4S.  My wife doesn't seem to have the problem at all.  I have not updated her 4S to 5.0.1 yet and will now be waiting after hearing that some people who didn't have an issue now do with this update.  This is a serious issue and I am extremely disappointed.  I have had an iphone since day one 2007.  Better battery life should have been the number 1 thing to improve from each generation iPhone to the next.  Forget everything else.  I do not want to plug my phone in during the day at all.  It is such a hassel.

On another note: my iPad 2's battery life on 5.0 is incredible!  It got better with 5.0.  Which leads me to believe it has something to do with being connected to the 3G network/ new anttena for the iPhone 4S.

Looks like my battery life got worse after updating to 5.0.1 too.  I have the same things turned off, I went in and looked at all of them to make sure.  I tried the delete email and calendar accounts, reset network, restart phone and that didn't help.  I was able to watch my phone drop 10% in 10 minutes while checking my email and twitter.

I will try running it down again to zero and do a full recharge over night to see if I need to re-condition the battery / reset the battery meter after the update.

I have tried that and waiting to see.  As I noted in an earlier post, when I would leave my phone in Airplane mode overnight (WiFi disabled), it would drop from 100% to around 90% overnight.  This morning it was still at 100%.  However, just using it a little bit today, no voice or 3G, I dropped to 95%.  Did the hard reset and will see how that goes.

After reading all this, I have decided not to update either my iPhone or my iPad.  My battery life is fine for me now, so no reason to update, and it seems it might get worse, which would really be annoying.
