Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Battery drain issues on my 4S did not improve after 5.0.1 update. Went to Apple store today and got a new phone, came home, restored it from backup, and let it charge to 100%.

18 minutes usage (listening to music, 3 emails, and a 1 minute phone call) and 32 minutes standby later, and my battery is still at 100%.

Based on experience, I would have been down to 92% or so by now with my other phone. So glad I got a replacement.

Im having the same draining issue since i "upgrade" to IOS 5.0.1.  I hope apple tell us something to calm down, cause i've restored, change almost the entire settings and having the same poor results.

Now im am at 43% with 4 hours of use (just 20 mins of twitter, 2 tweets, 40 mins of pandora and some browsing) and 12 hours locked.

I also noticed that when am just using the phone (no apps) battery decrease 1%/2% by minute.

I'm really getting impatient about this.

I don't know this to be exactly true, but I thought I saw a news snippet that stated Apple had figured out why the battery life in the 4S and the 4 (after the addition of iOS5)  was so bad. it had something to do with how the hardware ran not because of background apps, they were going to address it in a few weeks with an update...I'm hoping they address many other issues I have with iOS5 on my 4...hope this helps

Updated my Iphone 4S last night with the new IOS5.0.1 software and now my battery *****.. I use to get almost 2 full days out of a charge and today it is run down without me doing anything on it at all.. also now my phone doesnt recognize contacts and numbers that I already have saved in my phone, when I get a call from a contact it just displays the number and not the name I have it saved under.. this is ridiculous if you ask me..

Have updated to 5.01 on my 4s, OTA over a Telstra stores wireless hotspot. Interrupted the install once or twice ( in downloading by walking out of range from the wifi area)... Whole process took a little over ten minutes. No dramas.

So, this morning, roughly 45 minutes of intense browsing (safari google search queries 1-2 per minutes), clicking link after link, using Facebook.app and checking email, I have dropped 5% battery life (according to my battery monitor app, not the task bar icon with %. I don't trust that fully. )

So, 5 % in 45 minutes over 3G....  so to calculate usage for 3G we'd mtiply 45x19 then / 60 ( to get usage in hours ). That's optimistic I know (14 hours) but factoring notifications, texts and incoming calls, it'd be closer to ten. Apple state 10 over 3G in specific test conditions.

Over 3G this is fantastic. Time will tell if it's constant.

At 55mb this is still worthy. Do a hard reset (NOT HARD RESTORE) after your update and charge.

Remove your sim pin in settings menu and after a full overnight charge, do a hard reset. If u continue to have problems, do a hard reset at least once a day for the next few days after a full charge. It's not voodoo. The battery meter doesn't give true indication of battery level (according to 2 licensed apps from app store).

Apple call me last week and done that to my phone, they called back a couple of days later and i sent them the file that had been stored on my phone?

The absolutely annoying thing about this is the deafing silence from Apple - we'll probably accept a truthful explanation because we all know how crazy intricate programming can be, but treat us like '5h1t' and you'll lose your faithful followers!!

    Just to chime in:

I charged the phone to absolute full capacity (charger icon, not the bolt icon) from the wall adapter unit and took it off the hook at midnight.  It rang 2 alarms at 8:15am and 8:30am, which I shut off manually.  I checked my phone at 10am and it said 96%, so it dropped 4% for 10hrs of standby and playing those 2 alarms.

Started using the phone at 10am (3G data only, and checking in settings), and it dropped to 75% by 12:30pm (a little over an hour of use, maybe).  At 2pm I turned on Siri, iMessage, Location Services, Wifi and Bluetooth at that point and have been just keeping the phone on constantly, using it now and then.  It is now at 48% with 3hrs 21min of usage, 16hrs 30min of standby.

So standby appears to be excellent, but 3G data appears to really kill the battery (96% -> 75% with only light-moderate use between 10am and 12:30pm).  After I run this battery down and fully recharge from a wall outlet, I'll reset the settings and re-add my gmail exchange account.  It has also been suggested that 'push' from exchange is a major battery killer, but it doesn't explain how I lost only 4% in 10hrs of standby....

No worries. I have been recording my posterior gaseous discharges with the Voice Recorder App and sending them to Apple Support so the battery issue should be fixed in the next couple hours. Otherwise, I will resort to an all Mexican food diet.

Did update last night on my 4s and was not too sure about battery this morning when I woke as I thought it should not have drained as much.  Anyhow I just decided to test it and charged it to 100% and after did a little internet browsing,  txts, stock quotes,  5 minutes talk all about 30 minutes in total and then had phone on standby..I could say that  battery decrease from 100% to 79% in 3hrs...I don't see why I  should have to take off notification to preserve battery. Before the update the battery was fine - comparable to the 4. Comparing to the 4 i could say my screen is very yellowish in hue and by far not as vivid. I just got this phone 5 days ago and I am on rogers..

My battery life is worse now!!

30% battery loss in 45 min usage and 4 hour of no usage!!! (This is about 10 to 15 % worse than what I was getting before!!!)
