Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

In fact, Apple issued a statement to AllThingsD today. It says:

“The recent iOS software update addressed many of the battery issues that some customers experienced on their iOS 5 devices. We continue to investigate a few remaining issues.”

After installing the new OS 5.0.1, about 30 hours ago, my 4s has shown amazing improvement in the battery life.  I am relieved.

Updated 4S to 5.0.1 yesterday.  Charged overnight and I am down to 30% as of 4;40 PM.  I have all the items turned down or shut off to save battery life.  This is rediculous.

My 4S battery problem has got worse with 5.0.1    I was just about to embark on deploying 100 iPhone 4S units in our company but I have just put a halt to it as there is no way that our users will tolerate such poor battery life.  Apple had better come up with a fix and pretty darn quickly.

I have had very similar experiences and battery life. Apple had me install a logging profile and then called me back a day later and told me that my usage was exactly as expected and it was not excessive battery drain. I was able to beta test the 5.01 update before it was official and noticed no change from 5.0. I've now upgraded to the official 5.01 update and am actually having worse battery life.  Very disappointed so far. They tried to tell me I had unrealistic expectations of battery life but I feel the life I'm getting out of my phone does not match the use or apples claims.

Battery life is disappointing. We did not get free bumpers but maybe we will get free juice packs soon...

As I noted this morning (10:15 or so), my battery was at 93%... this was just about half an hour after unplugging the phone after a night of charging.  After I updated (the phone was still plugged in at that point), I turned on Location Services for Siri, Maps, Reminders, The Weather Channel and Compass.  These were what I'd turned off to slow the battery drain prior to 5.0.1.  It's now 5:30pm and with those Location Services, Wi-Fi on continuously, Siri and Pushed Email on - pretty much everything I normally would have on, it's at 79%.  That's with very little use - 10 emails received, some messages received and sent and a couple internet lookups.

    Usage:

Here was my usage at 1:21pm:

    photo2.PNG

And having not plugged it in since disconnecting it this morning, this is the usage at 5:31pm

    photo.PNG

Now, I'm not sure how exact the usage data is supposed to be, but it just doesn't add up.  I have 4 hours and 47 minutes of usage and standby at 1:21pm and I have 9 hours and 23 minutes of usage and standby at 5:31pm.  That's a difference of 4 hours, 36 minutes... however, only 4 hours and 10 minutes have passed.

Of course, in taking this screenshot and sending it in an email to my laptop, I lost 1% so, I'm now down to 78% by simply sending an email attachment.

I'm going to completely discharge the battery and recharge to see if that fixes things.  On the whole, it looks like standby has been fixed somewhat, but any usage - even the simplest - seems to drain the battery fast.  I'm going to also try watching a movie to see how long the battery lasts with that.

Well, I am not a very heavy user but i can't get through one day without having to do a partial top up charge. My 100 users are people out on the road, in & out of customer environments and wont get the chance to do top up charges. In this day & age, to get at least one full day's use is I think a very low expectation.

"Mimi," I too have error messages. Thousands of them. Some people have been turning them off as part of the battery-saving regimen, but I  want to keep them going as proof of a problem. The sheer number of them seemed very convincing to my local Apple store. They took one look and said they wanted to do a DFU restore (sorry I'm not the most techie person) anyway neither the DFU nor 5.0.1 has stopped the errors or helped the battery life.

My son, 17, got his iPhone the same day, uses the heck out of it, has great battery life and maybe four AWDD reports. I've been curious if other people on this thread have AWDD reports going to infinity. Mine seem to kick in when I'm home and on WIFI. I can't make heads or tails of them.

So after 11 hrs and 48 minutes and not alot of usage my Iphone 4S is at zero battery.  This is annoying.  I hope the next update fixes this.

I'm with you on that! They really are great devices. Though it would be nice to see apple resolve these issues.

i have the iphone 4, since march. i never had ANY issues. it lasted me a day and a half, 2 days, without charge. or i would just charge over night while i slept. after i upgraded to iOs 5, my battery started dying so quick. Also, my phone will be at 70-100% charged, and it will just shut off (die).. it says I need to charge it, but as soon as i do plug it back in, the battery % is still the 70-100% , whichever % the phone shut off on me. Anybody else ever have this issue along with this battery life?
