Upgraded to 5.0.1 this afternoon and it appears that the battery life is worse after the patch. I was at 83% and after 15 minutes it has dropped to 78%. I really hope they can get this straightened out quickly!

It seems like everyone is experiencing similar battery problems now i.e. not much change when on standby but visible drop of 1% ever 1-2 mins when using the phone. Hopefully they can push out a patch to sort this asap as even after replacing my 4S with a new one the problem remains.

    Upgraded to 5.0.1 last night.

I saw no improvement in battery life.

Basically, I have to have my phone charged throughout the day.

I wouldn't' bother upgrading to 5.0.1 until apple really fixes this issue.

    Total waste of time.

Hi guys, just a user review from good ol' Holland.

I just wanted to share my experience with the battery life of the 4S with you people,

I had/have possibly the worst battery problem with my 4S. When I purchased the 4S I depleted the batt 3 times after purchase and charged it to 100% (to calibrate batt percentage) But only after an our or 8 to 10 with 3G on it was shutdown time... This was on the iOS 5.0 firmware.

Tired of the short batt life I decided to shutdown all location features. There was no significant battery life improvement, however.... when I disabled "diagnostics and use" (which is used to send user statistics to Apple) the batt life got significantly better. The uptime was boosted to approx. 18 hours.

Yesterday I updated to 5.0.1 For me there's only a slight improvement on batt life and a full charge will hold up to 24 hours max with 3G on, without doing any obvious battery draining tasks like watching youtube vids and so on. However i noticed a significant drain and heat development of the battery when I started to take pictures (which I had never done since I got the phone). The percentage plummited with an approximate of 25% whilst using the camara for about 15 minutes.

    Kind regards from Holland....

So I did as you said but I still have the same problem. my usage and standby time read the same numbers.

I let my phone drop all the way to 0 and then i charged it to 100%.

the current usage and standby time read 3 hours 51 minutes.

i've listened to 1-2 songs, send 10-15 texts and went on one website through wifi and my battery is currently at 90%.

Well, just updated 5.0.1 an hour and half ago and charged it to full power, wifi off, and now its at 85%, with barely any use (except refreshing the screen now and then to watch the power bar)... so a good loss of 15% in an hour and half...

Not sure if this is worse or the same, but its pretty bad nonetheless....I hear there are more issues with the update, but i have not used those functions so i am not able to comment....

I too had been suffering from poor battery life despite optimizing notifications, GPS, turnig off wifi and bluetooth, etc. I was excited to see the 5.01 upgrade this morning, but I am actually experiencing worse battery life since upgrading. Started with 100% this morning, 3 hrs 2 min usage and 12 h 43 min standby and I am down to 38%. Pathetic! This is nowhere near the battery life that was quoted. I was so excited to pitch my Blackberry but at least a single charge got me through several days. I am very disappointed.

I will add my voice to the chorus. Since upgrading to 5.0.1 on my iPhone 4S my battery life is worse. Before I was sometimes getting up to 24 hours use before recharging, but now I am losing, at times, 10 percent an hour.

Ran the tests, for 1 hour iPhone 4 lost 2% while my iPhone 4S lost nothing. Exact same settings, both on WiFi and 3G. Stand by times were 1 hour and 2 minutes for usage. They were all the exact same. So I don't know what the issues are.

I agree. I have had the exact same experience as Rick Gontarek.  My first iphone as well. Its great except for the battery life issues

On iPhone 4 battery life now much much worse after 5.01.  My iPhone was fully charged hardly used and now totally dead at end of day.

Ps on iOS 5.0 charge lasted at least 24-36 hours, now less than 10.

Easiest way to explain it is, I would normally listen to XM for 45 minutes on the train & battery would go from

100% to like 91%. Phone = not hot. That was iPhone 4. New 4s, hot to the touch & battery is down to about 70% after same usage! Phone should not be hot!

I'm here to report my problems with IPhone 4. It has less than one year and it turned off suddenly several times in two months, only working again with hard reset. This is absurd! And in Brazil apple does not give support to clients, so I had to complain at the telephone company. Besides, the battery is terrible. I have to charge it twice before it completes 24 hours with low use.

    I'm definitely dissatisfied

There is a difference charging through the computer vs through the wall outlet. Should both work the same? Yes, but they haven't for me.

Have you tried turning off WiFi Sync and then syncing through a wall charger to see if you get the same results?
