Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

My battery life was terrible when I 1st got my iPhone 4s.  Battery life would be at 50% 3 hours after charging with very little use.  I turned off several notifications which helped some.  I also started using my ipad charger.  I'm not sure why, but it last several hours longer when I charge it with my iPad2 charger instead of the one that came with it.

I kept iCloud turned off and synced contacts through iTunes and Mail. I had heard about the iCloud leak and decided to leave it off after the reset.  Nothing is on iCloud.

I have updated to 5.0.1 from 5.0 on my iPhone 4S & the battery percentage drop is worse now than previously. I'm currently in work & my phone was in my bag while I was working. Before I put it in my bag it was at 94%, came to check my phone after roughly 3 hours or not being used & it had dropped about 4-5%. But using it now it's dropping quicker than it was before & I'm doing the same things now that I was before too. I look forward to when the battery problems are fixed!

Everyone that is in the same boat with this battery issue should send feedback to apple over here:

    I'm using a Iphone 4 (2010) IOS 5 .0.1 on AT&T in Tulsa, OK

Had the same battery problems.  Only thing i changed was to turn off the battery % indicator and the time zone.

Charged the battery all night as usual.  Unpluged it @ 5:30 am and now it's 8:52 pm battery @ 41% (turned the % on to check).

    So far so good.

My iPod Touch is fluctuating so wildly that it doesn't quite seem real: 65%, 55% after an hour of use, 20% after an hour locked down, 55% after another hour locked down, WITH NO CHARGING, 20%, then 25% ten minutes later, after a half hour of use, then it finally shut down 45 minutes later. After charging for 20 minutes, it's back at 79%!

My iPhone has fared better. Of course I'm a cable carrier, so it's hard to judge. I've got cables in every room in the house, and it stays plugged in.

I think one of the posters(I think he's on page 309) has a point: This could be a battery issue; My iPad 2 has the same processor, but still lasts pretty much the weekend on a full charge.

I posted earlier about noticing much better battery life when using my computer to charge the phone, i decided to try to figure out why this was. I also notice i started having battery issues after i charged my phone using my ipad power adapter. When using this adapter and then my iphone adapter the battery on my 4s would charge very fast, but the battery would also die very fast. Charging through the computer charges the battery slower and it lasts much longer.

Here are the power adapter specs:

    iPad output = 5.1v 2.1A

    iPhone 4S output = 5v 1A

    Computer USB output = 0.5A (500mA)

I also have a car charger, not sure of the output of that yet.

My thinking is this, is it possible at one point (or currently) we used a charger that was putting out a output higher than what was rated/designed for the phone and this caused damage to the battery (temporary or permenant). I think its important that we note what power adapter we use/have used with charging the phone.

In my case using the ipad adapter with 2.1v output may have damaged my battery since the 4s adapter has an output of only 1v. By using my computer with 0.5v output has greatly improved my battery life, i haven't gone back to the 4s outlet adapter yet.

I highly encourage everyone to drain there battery down to 0% and then charge to 100% through the computer, a few times, and see if his improves your battery life.

Also if you are xperiencing battery issues please note how you are charging your phone, with what adapter(s).

    Thank You,

It is ridicurous to use I-phone 4s with the battery only last a few hours.

I fully charged at 1 O'clock and used internet for up to 15 min. and 12 text messages resulted in 47%  before 5 O'clock.... isn't it terrible to have I-phone?

I had LG mobile phone, after 2 month of my purchase, I had a wide range of problems such as lack of reception, screen problems and so on. So, I was so keen to have this phone but I am dissapointed again with my new handset. Probably I should've stayed with Samsung....

If it wasn't for the fact that folks with iPhone 4's that have updated to iOS5 were also experiencing battery problems, I would be convinced that the problem lies with the new antenna design and the software that switches it.  The constant switching of attenas would account for the battery drain issues and and the reports of people getting "jammed up" with their signal (iPhone shows good reception but nothing gets through data wise). This would also account for the phantom usage that people are reporting.  If your phone is in the middle of a neverending antenna switching loop while trying to complete a task such as fetch an email, that would certainly drive the usage up.  We all know that the iPhone is persistent about completing a task.  Just look what happens when an exchange account gets hung.  I know that I can get around 7 hours of usage  and a good 24-36 hours of standby as long as I stay connected to a wifi network but as soon as I'm out on 3G my batterly life goes right to **** in a handbasket and I'm lucky to get 4 hours of mixed usage.

Oh no!  I hope I haven't damaged my battery. After having success with the iPad charger, I never went back to the iPhone one.

We decided to try a few iPhones at work anticipating they would work out well and we would switch from th BB platform. I can hardly wait to go back to a Blckberry due to the battery issue. I updated to the new software this morning and have had to recharge three times in spite of the promise to fix this issue. I have the location turned off as well as pushing my email every couple of hours. This is certainly not going to be the work phone we hoped for and it is unlikely we will support this platform

still experiencing the battery drain problem....

just updated to ios 5.0.1 and my iPhone 4 is draining 1% every 5 minutes during usage. constantly. by using th internet. not wifi. not 3g. but on Edge. i had turned off everything. i mean every tips and tricks that you can everr imagine. and all that, it will make 10% in 50 minutes of usage.

before it was ios 5.0 -  i would get 10% in an hour of usage. hmm.. no improvement at all...
