Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

This is what I get when I compare the iOS devices from my house. My iPhone 4S's battery dies incredibly fast especially after the 5.0.1 while my old iPhone 4 (now my GF's phone) and my first generation iPad, their battery life improved significantly with this last update. So I guess is something with the 4S.

One more thing, in 5.0 I sort of fixed the battery issue reinstalling my exchange email account. I did this too after the 5.0.1, but opposed to the first time with no good effect to the battery life just extra work for me. The location settings related to time zone, and cell tower location are deactivated, I saw these can cause battery drain too but apparently not in my case...

If you or someone with both iPhone 4 and 4S read this, please tell me how do the signal bars of your carrier behave. On the table, next to each other, on the 4 I see four bars and the 4S has only two. Can this reception difference be the the battery killer? Is this a case to have my 4S replaced?

    Thank you.

    hi guys

everbody has the same problem we need the function back 2g also for mobile data

apple did cut this feature for 4 s

the 3g chipset is using much much more as the 2g solution

in every smartphone in the world you can choice between 2 and 3g for mobil data even for iphone 4 with 5.0

but not 4s that is the really reason for battery problem

Fix has been and gone mate , how do you know Apple are working on it?  Don't you mean, they have been working on it?

I agree with you. If apple is not able to solve the problem,

at least they should aloow again to switch 3G ON or OFF

And may be using an easy way like in first setting page.

I agree but Apple won't do this. If this is what you really want or need then perhaps you should consider returning the phone within the 30 day window. I can go down to 1 bar 3G and it takes a long time before 2G kicks in, in the mean time calls drop or go to Voice Mail.

That's not so easy, as they are using a new chip. Before it was possible to deactivate the 3G chip, but now it is in one chip, so if you disable this chip, you will lose the network!

    hi

the main problem for batterieproblem is that you can use only 3g for mobile data

iphone has the feature to choose betwenn2g -and 3g

3g chipset in the phone is using 5 times more from battery as from 2g

2g is enough for mails, apps, calenderexchange mms sms and most of the worked with 2g before

we need back this feature to switch 2g fo mobile data like in iphone 4

I purchased the iPhone 4s last Friday and even when it came out of the box the battery was dieing quickly. I Charge it before I went to sleep last night and made sure I had all applications closed and they were. Battery was on 100 % when i plugged it out. Woke up this morning to 61%! That's shocking! The battery in the iPhone 4s is worse than the iPhone 2g! I had the 2g for past three years because I could not afford the iPhone 4s and now I go and spend my hard earned money on this phone this is happening! For such a successful company you would think they would take huge measurements to make sure there are at there top but no! They always have some sort of flaw of there products and it's not fair the people that don't have the money to buy such expensive products! I'm diss appointed by apple and by there new software update (which didn't help!). I hope they come up with a solution to fix this soon because in getting sick of battery dieing so quickly already!

Hi, have iPhone 4s with 5.0 had the same issues, turned everthing off Location, mail, Apps etc.

no big help, now I have updated to 5.0.1 Let my iPhone charged over night, from 9.00 till now 12.30, have made a few calls etc, Battery is now down 82% percent (Location, mail, Siri are turned off) Is this Battery usage O.K?

Had before a G3 with the edge switch, found much better because of battery saving.

Question: The pull down scroll screen (calender, Dow jones ticker) is this using Battery power in the background?

This is ridiculous, not only updating to 5.0.1 didn't fix the battery issue. If anything the battery on the iphone 4s drains even faster than before.

I literally lose from 2% to 7% from just doing nothing on the phone.

At this rate I'm going to advise all my friends and familes to stay away from the iphone 4S.

I have a week-old Verizon iPhone 4S with pretty much no apps installed so far. I have WiFi enabled on the phone only when I'm near a known AP (either at home or at work). With the natively shipped iOS 5, the battery drain was about 12% to 15% each time I was on a call for about 20 mins (with WiFI enabled and connected to a known SSID). If I turned off the WiFi, the battery drian was still 10% for a 20-minute call. I had checked this and replicated a few times.

With iOS 5.0.1, there has been little or no improvement. Last night, the battery drained from 100% charge to 82% in six hours of lying idle while connected to a WiFi but ZERO BROWSING, and ZERO PHONE CALLS or SMSes sent/received. With iOS 5.0.1, the battery still continues to drain by 12% to 15% when I am on the phone for 20 mins, having WiFi enabled and connected to a known SSID but zero browsing. Sending ONE text message drains the battery by 1% to 2%.

I have shutdown & restarted the phone and also tried the hard reset option but it has not made any difference whatsoever. The battery went from 100% to 46% in less than one day's use-- having just been on the phone (voice calls) for 20 minutes the whole day, adding a few new contacts, sending 5 text messages, checking the showtimes (<1 min of browsing) and installing one update for Instagram. Very disappointed! I welcome Apple to install any monitoring packages if they want to collect any diagnostics.

I intially had a great battery life for first 2 weeks, lasting 2-3 days before needing charge. Earlier this week, noted marked increase in battery drain, needing to put phone on charge every night, and I've been using the phone less than previously! Updated to 5.01 today, and drain has slowed but still draining more than in the first 2 weeks. Nil new Apps downloaded prior to the marked decrease in battery life. Can't figure why battery life changed, but reading the thread, obviously I'm not the only one.
