Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Updated to IOS5.0.1 the day before yesterday. I haven't seen any changes of bettery drain yet. Uplugged my iPhone 4S yesterday morning at 8:30am, made ~10 calls, ~10 text messages, browsed a couple webpages (>20) and emails, and listened an audiobook for >6 hours while I was driving from PA to CT, duing which I frequently asked Siri about traffic, directions (to make sure I was on the right track since it was my first time driving that route), and also checked the DOW a few times. The phone lasted until 9pm. So, more than 12 hours of almost constant use. Not too bad for me.

I am not sure what the problems are for the other folks out there. But I did notice if I have the location service for the REMINDER App on, the bettery drains much faster  b/c it tracks my location constantly, with an arrow staying on the upper right corner next to my bluetooth symbol. Once that is off, my iPhone 4S is doing much better.

I am on ATT, with bluetooth on, wifi on all the time. I had most notifications off for most games and those infrequently used apps.

Currently, my 4S is 3 hours past its last full charge and I didn't use much, and the bettery is 96%.

    Hi there,

Same here for my 4S. and it's almost the same for my old 3G. So I guess we are not having any problems.

I concur on the album art. I use images.google.com all the time to find artwork not available in iTunes.  Also, I like to store my artwork in my MP3's so if iTunes returns an image to me, I right-click on the image, select copy and right-click again to select paste.  That writes the image into the MP3.  Usually I try to find artwork at least 500x500 to 600x600 (iTunes size) as I also have an iPad 2 and anything less than 500x500 tends to look very grainy on the iPad.

(Yes I know it is off topic - sorry.  After following three hundred pages of battery issues, a little diversion was nice!)

I'm not expecting any replies to this message. I just wanted to add my voice to the growing din of people complaining about battery life on the "new" iPhone 4S using iOS 5.0.1 so that Apple can see just how many people are indeed affected. What's most frustrating is that by buying an iPhone 4S, I thought I was getting  an "improved" version of the original iPhone 4 but Apple wasn't even able to get that right. Very disappointing...

Absolutely RUBBISH NON-FIX APPLE -- the "FIX" does NOT WORK!

It has slightly slowed the pr0n-star battery suckage on my iPhone4, but barely. Instead of it swallowing 20%/per hour, it now only swallows 13%/per hour.

iOS 4 did NOT have this battery suckage and Apple better durn sure sort it NOW.

Im sorry I dont have any help but I just wanted to checkin with this problem. I have a WHite iphone4. So I havent had it that long. Last week when I was visiting my brother in Calif I noticed that I left the hotel room and after about 6 hours, it was like 30%. When I had the old 3g and 3gs I dont remember ever getting that low. My problem is this....for reasons you can probably guess..I dont wanna restore. Besides i have noticed that a lotta these so called upgrades etc, seem to cause problems. My ipad seems to hold a charge longer!

I have a black 32gb 4s and noticed that the 5.0.1 patch seemed to worsen battery life. I downloaded the patch OTA.  Before attempting a full restore as some suggested, I let the battery run down to zero and did a full recharge.  It appears battery perfomance is vastly improved.  Id be interested to see if others have seen similar success.

I saw a faster discharge on my 3Gs and iPad2 after the 5.0.1. update, tried all suggestions I read here.

None seemed to help except the following:

I manually did the update again (makes no sense, but I tried it all the same), by keeping Shift pressed while clicking the Firmware Update button in iTunes. This lets you manually select the desired update/restore:

    Browse to (Windows)

    "C:\Users\<Your UserName>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPad Software Updates"

    for the iPad or

    "C:\Users\<Your UserName>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates"

    for the iPhone

and select the ....._5.0.1_....._Restore.ipsw file (actual file name depends on your model I think)

And let the restore run. After that I did a Hard reset on both devices.

This was a few hours ago and iPad2 is still on 100% (yesterday I saw it dropping even with all apps closed etc..).

iPhone 3Gs dropped 2% in those few hours (It wasn't fully charged when I started).

I know, the procedure seems foolish, since the same firmware update was already installed, but it seems to help for me.

Don't know if the same goes for the 4S (haven't got one).

I have a white iPhone 4s. Prior to the 5.0.1 update, the battery life wasn't good, but it wasn't as bad as what some others were experiencing.  Since the update however, it has completely deteriorated.  Just writing this post, I have lost 10%. I have tried all of the suggestions here and everything else I could think of--but anything I do only seems to make it worse.  The phone is essentially unusable at this point.

    Just to confirm again:

Hard reset does not fix problem

Full restore does not fix problem

51% battery by 1500 today and have only used iMessage and whatsapp a few times. Crazy.

Not much change with mine, very upsetting!  Downloaded the new update on my wifes iPhone 4, we will see if it helps it but as far as my 4S absolutely no change and maybe a little worse.  Come on Apple, fix it, I can not return it now because I was counting on you fixing it.

tengo un iphone4, todo funciono correctamente en la actualizacion 5.0  pero al actualizar a la nueva, 5.0.1 la bateria y los errores empiezan a causar estragos..

I have a new 4S and had battery issues when I was using 5.0. Updated to 5.0.1 on Thursday night and noticed a serious drain on my battery. Probably worse than with 5.0 Did a wipe and restore yesterday morning. Applied all the tweaks and fixes to sustain battery life. It works great...as long as I don't use it! The minute I start using my iPhone it starts to drain at a rate of 5 - 10% per hour. If I don't touch it it drains at a reasonable rate. It's at 54% since yesterday around noon and that's with about two hours (give or take) of wi-fi/3G usage. Like I said, the minute I start using it in any capacity I'm watching it drop within minutes.

My next step is to let it drain entirely and do a fresh recharge.

Hello everyone.  I have never owned an iPhone before the 4s I received two weeks ago.  With new update, here is where I am.....

Usage at 4.5 hours, mostly emails, hanging with friends, a littlemfacetime and Internet

    Standby at 32 hours

I am now at about 33% left.

Does this sound reasonable for an iPhone?

    Thanks for the help.
