Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Another update. I went ahead and downloaded System Status Lite to monitor my CPU usage. In airplane mode, with no apps open and literally not even touching the screen, my CPU usage bumps anywhere from 8-80% consistently. It does not stay stable at around the 1-2% that I'd assume an idle phone would.

After my experiment, if it fails, I'm going to take your advice, wipe the entire phone and start over as if it's a brand new phone. Extreme measures, but I need my iPhone to work properly. Thanks for the suggestion.

Again, do a hard reset. You need to upgrade to 5.0.1. This has worked for people on other models of iOS devices.

Please include all information related to your device including the following.

Detailed information about device, Model, etc. (Saw the network log which was good in another post. )

    1. Review all your apps and the notifications settings. Check for improvement.

    2. Quit running apps by tapping the Home Button in an application. When the APP pop onto up press on them until you see the minus button. Try exiting them one at a time to narrow it down to one particular APP.

    3. If you are a developer check your logs, this is the best what to see what is going on.

    4. Review your network and push settings.

    5. Review who you are getting calendar and messaging from. Google, exchange, etc.

As I have stated we have had no problem, our devices go about 2 days using heavy network traffic.

You should if you are posting here any issues include the following so we get a sense of the what we are really dealing with and it will help.

Device : (Include Ram and APP list if you can) (App list is important.)

    Using iCloud:Yes/No

How you are charging: (Direct Plug or using a computer)

Computer including running OS. (Example Mac Book Pro 2009.)

    Calendar:(Google/Exchange/iCloud)

    Mail:(Again as above.)

Other Network apps: Twitter, Facebook, etc.

    Network Carrier:AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, etc.

WIFI usesage: (Percentage for example 20% of the day) and type of network device. Airport 2010 2&5 gig auto switch, older newer, etc. B/G/N

Is the phone or device ever been jailbroken or altered in any way from the original agreement: Yes or No.

Did you have APPLE migrate you data in the APPLE store? Yes or NO

Again, we have lots of the 4s and they are great, the battery is about 2 days. It may be better to get some accurate information to help.

    All else fails

Backup and encrypt your iPhone and than reset it to Factory settings. Apply the iOS 5.0.1 update and restore the backup.

This has worked in pass hardware and software updates for us when we experienced performance problems.

Also make sure to update all APP on device.

That may be the case that you have a bad phone but more detail is needed. What version of the 4S do you have? 16, 32 or 64. White or black? Network provider?

    Thanks.

I did a hard reset last night and it seems to be worse for me. I dunno, this is getting out of hand Apple. My first iPhone and it can barely go through a day with some features turned off. Really?

Here is what you need to do.

    http://mcaf.ee/ldtjw

Again, please post all technical data here about your device as stated in previous post. Include versions of software on the PC and on the iOS devices, makes and models.

You can contact APPLE here but they will need all that information as well. http://mcaf.ee/gc8hw

Apple can be contacted by this form.

Make sure that you try all of the following. Report success along with technical data to APPLE.

Currently waiting for my iPhone 4s to arrive and I am genuinly fearing what others are describing in this discussion. Surely I wouldn't be sent a phone with such problems still occuring? I use my phone heavily and couldn't whatsoever deal with only 4-5 hours of usage. Hopefully mine will come updated and that others have their problems fixed soon! :)

I did a hard reboot. Then, reading further, I deleted a bunch of old apps I never use, I double-tapped the home button and turned off apps that were running (few were)...I'm already using 5.0.1...iPhone4...macbook pro(fully updated to most recent OS and updates) (charging using USB)..hard reboot AGAIN:

    1. Location services back on

    2. FB application deleted

    3. No applications are on Notification services except weatherbug, phone, messages and stock widget

I'm now testing the battery life on stand-by/sleep. It's now at 90% at 6:30PM EST. We will see.

Oh thank god, I finally got 5.0.1 working on my 4s. No idea what fixed it. I restored it, did a hard reset, wiped all settings and now it just works as it should. 5 hours standby with 55 minutes usage and battery is at 96%.

I am a happy camper, but there should not have to be this much hassle in a release.

I just downloaded 5.0.1 and it made my battery usage drop worse than before the update. This is horse crap. I would have never bought the phone if I knew I could only use it  for 1 day before having to charge it

Do you mean you completely wiped the phone and started over? If so, I may try this if my experiment fails.
