Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I downloaded the newest software release last night

(.1) and charged my battery to about 97% I was on

Safari for a little while after and bat went down to about 92%

I then shut down all open apps etc that i used throughout the

Day and left my phone on over night. When I woke up this morn

The battery was on 79% how I don't know cos I hadn't been on anything!

When downloading the newest software it did intact say it fixed battery

Life!! Very dissapointing as I had a blackberry curve before my 4s and that

Would last two days with all apps open and full usage!!

    Get this fixed apple!

    100% => 88% in 1h 50m

1 Call (3 minutes) nothing else, just standby

    HI,

normally my 4s took about 5 % overnight with Siri and a couple of location services. yesterday I wanted to know how well it could perform under 5.0.1 so I updated, let the battery drain to 0% and fully recharged and let it be in stand by overnight with no opened apps.

the battery drained 21%!!!! What the # is up with IOS 5.0.1? it made a problem where there wasn't one for me!

I'd suggest taking a look at: https://discussions.apple.com/message/16709954#16709954  It may not be the ultimate solution but worked for some people.

Definitely there is a problem with a background service making working too much since for most people having this problem the battery usage statistics show a 50/50% rate for standby/in use. Aside from what is suggested in the other thread I'd try to disable, one by one, services on the iPhone, like Location, notifications, Push, 3G, and so on until a fix is released, that's better than having a useless iPhone before the end of the day.

yes... this process has worked in 9 out 10 of users I have installed it on myself or assisted. This includes my own iPhone 4S. I have detail thread here on the process, settings, etc.

    60/40 (sent/received) messages on iMessage (3G technology) - 27% lost battery

Now: 30/10 (sent/received) messages normally without iMessage (which is off on this moment, so without 3G technology) - 1% lost battery.

    All functions are still off.

agree... restoring from backup can potentially carry over the corrupt settings. however, you don't even need to do all your steps. a "reset all settings" does not delete any data, apps, email, etc. it only resets the basic settings to default (desktop, wifi, etc). this combined with a full discharge/full recharge does fix the standby for most users with all models incl 4S.

agree after a reset all settings, setup as new phone and full discharge/recharge it is now performing better than my previous iPhones when new

    Black 64GB 4s

*Updated via OTA - here is where I am at so far:

    Usage: 3 Hours, 47 Minutes

    Standby: 17 Hours, 14 Minutes

    Currently @ 57% remaining

I have Auto Brightness off and the slider at the halfway mark.

Turned off Location Services for a few apps (Camera, photo sharing sites, iMDB/Fandango, etc.).  Also turned off Location Based iAds.  YES, Reminders location is enabled.  YES, Setting Time Zone is enabled.

Disabled Siri's raise to speak feature

Mail - Fetch New Data set to Push and fetching every 30 minutes for mail accts which do not support push

Time Zone support is disabled for Calendar

    Battery % indicator is enabled.

Home most of the day and connected to wireless.  Made a few calls, facetime calls, etc.  Web access, used Siri a bit to update meetings, reminders, etc.  Essentially, typical usage pattern.  Been off the charger since early this morning.

Not using email configured as MS Exchange acct.  Yahoo, Gmail, cloud, etc.

    /___sbsstatic___/migration-images/167/16714075-1.jpg

It's totally JOKE !!! The phone during night test was used 50 minutes with fetch configuration in 1 Hour!!! How much time needs for check 2 email account 9 times?! 9 minutus ?! 10 minutes ?! Who did use the phone 50 minutes ???

    Few minutes later

    100 messages on iMessage - 27% battery (3G Technology)
54 messages when iMessage is off - 4% battery (without 3G)

Is it maybe any error with this technology?

    EDIT:

I watch on my iPhone 4S that gets more battery iMessage than other applications, which should be more resource hungry.

    EDIT2:

In the both case battery was 100%.

So I'm running an experiment with my iPhone 4 IOS 5.0.1 32gb on O2 here in the UK. It is hosted from a MacBook Pro running 10.7.2

    Hard Reset

    SW Update check

No notifications except "Find My iPhone" on

Email from iClud and my IMAP server set to fetch

No other *anything* syncing, no iClud replication except Calendar, Contacts (exactly the same as IOS 4.3.3)

    Wifi, Bluetooth off

    3G on

It is now 1208 GMT on Sunday, I'll reply to this post and let you know how we get on....

Naive new Iphone user needs help!
Updated to 5.0.1. still can't tell if the battery life has improved or not.

I lost 4-5% in 30 minutes, I was texting with Skype and checking Facebook every now and then. DO you think it's acceptable?

As part of IOS 5 apple had put on location service that tells your phone if it needs to change when you go to a different timezone. If you dont travell much or will not be leaving your time zone I would turn this setting off.

Here is what you need to do:

Go to; Settings>Location Services>Scroll to the bottom>System Services>Turn off at least setting time zone

I have only kept on Cell Network Search and also Compass Calibration and have no use for the rest and turned them off.

This has really improved my battery life and hope it helps
