Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Upgraded my 4S to 5.0.1 yesterday, charged it to 100% and unplugged it at 18:00.

My phone is now at 10%, that's 90% charge lost in 18hrs with virtually no use (I was asleep for 9 of those hours!).

Most location services are off including Setting Time Zone

I think its safe to say the update has not fixed the battery drain issues!

Make sure that you do all the resets and let the battery drain to under 10%.

You can download iPhone Configuration Utility to check the logs of the device for a bad APP.

    http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/enterprise/

Make sure to let the phone do the recharge like yout had to when first purchased. We like 24 hours with any device when we first get it.

Good luck, we did not have any problems after updating old devices except legacy iPads, which a reset fix. All our new 4S are fine and have been fine since purchase.

    Good luck

Upgraded my iPhone 4s to 5.0.1 today.  Strangely my battery drain issue has been erratic, hopefully this update won't make it worse.  For the first 3+ weeks the battery life was not an issue.  In the last 4 days it's drained itself to twice during the night.

I don't use talk on it much just use email and web to small extent.  Email is set to check every 30 minutes.  I'm trying the options others suggested such as turning off the time zone setting function - we'll see if that helps.

Since I went weeks without an issue I have to believe it's software or a service Apple has running.  Come on Apple you can get this figured out, sooner rather than later please.

Make sure you know exactly how to do each of the steps, google and iPhone Manual will help http://support.apple.com/manuals/

My battery life stinks too. I've had a replacement phone, I've done a full reset and set it up as new, I've turned most everything off and I've done a full battery drain/recharge cycle. I am running iOS 5.0.1 and there is no improvement to battery life, if anything it's a bit worse since the patch.

After updating to iOS 5.0.1. my iPhone 4S my 4S is still draining in the charger. Even after being charged for 10+ hours it will sometimes display a partial charge in the 90 percents.

I'm also continuing to have very poor battery life, but the problem of not getting a full charge in the charger also remains and is very troublesome. The phone should have a full charge after being charged all night.

My iPhone is also worse after the update. Battery was fully charged when I went to bed. It drained 30% overnight, registered 4h of usage, even though it should be on standby. It's 14:00 now and I'm down to 48% without having used it at all... What a disappointment...

My phone was completely charged yesterday afternoon and this morning when i got up it is almost completely gone.  Yesterday morning when i woke up after updating the software the phone was completely dead.  So I went through the recharge cycle.  This software update obviously didnt fix the battery problem.

In my opinion, just my Iphone 4S 32GB black, lost more power when do call/sms (with and without imessage, but without imessage I lost only 6%, with 27%) than when use application (YouTube, Camera, etc.). Hard reset, timezone off etc. dont help me!

    My battery problem is solved!

    4s.PNG

My guess is that most of us had iphone a 4 or 3gs and when we setup the 4s and restored a backup to the new 4s.

Was having all the problems described on these boards as well. Battery life, signal loss ect. after I first setup my new 4s. I activated it and restored a backup from my old iphone 4

What fixed it for me was I restored my phone as new and rather then use my backup i just synced my apps and music like some have suggested.

My phone has not been charged since Friday night 10 pm EST.

Its now Sunday 9 amand I am still at 29%

all the bells and whistles are running except blue tooth.  I my exchange e-mail set to push.

I was still having Cell signal loss. I did *228 to update my roaming capabilities (verizon) and not had a problem since. Phone is working perfectly with all the bells and whistles running

Finally went to the Genius Bar last night. You have to admit, the people that work there truly are amazing. The customer service at that level is fantastic...I have never seen anything comparable in any other major company. Anyway, the guy went through the whole thing...tested the battery (it was fine), did the restore/reset (again since I already did that), blah blah blah. He said that although he's aware of it, he hasn't seen much of the battery issue in the store (really? I find that hard to believe...I'm in Boston and it's a very busy store. I can't be the only one).  But he was at a loss. He told me to drain the battery and if it doesn't work after that to come back and I can have brand new phone out of the box. I wonder if they are told not to admit anything.  But he did say what I believe to be true...Apple WILL fix this, regardless of their silence right now. I just can't think about this anymore. It is draining the battery in my head.

No...that isn't true. This is my first iPhone. I did not have the 4 or 3gs. My battery life is dismal. But I'm glad yours is fixed.

I had no issue with battery at 5.0 and stupid me, updated with 5.0.1.   Now my battery is worse,

    Time since last full charge:

    Usage: 1hr 45m

    Standby: 21 hr 29m

    Battery: 53%

I had comparing my usage stats with one of my friend who had battery issue, so i know that around this type ofnlength and usage, i would be about 80%.    This is with light Internet and phone use, Verizon is service provider.  Yes, auto time zone is off.

    Apple, what are you doing???
