Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Some of you will certainly just have a co-incidental broken battery.

However the one factor in all of this is the removal of the 2G setting.

Flip flopping between 2G and 3G will kill the battery so whilst it can be improved there may be no fix available.

I'm in a high 3G signal area so I just don't have these problems.

We are all just going to have to get used to the new battery thing.

I just asked Siri what was wrong with the battery in the phone. Her answer: "I can't say".  I guess it's a secret.

hey mate, guess you're still ok ....there're some people here (including myself) who have our MAGIC draining about 30-40% overnight - with most smartphone features switched off... ie push email, location, BT, WIFI......

    that's how bad it is

EVERYONE TRY HARD RESETTING YOUR PHONES BEFORE POSTING HERE.

IT WORKED FOR ME LIKE IT HAS FOR EVERYONE ELSE WHO TRIED IT.

STOP POSTING THAT YOU HAVE THE PROBLEM TOO SO THAT EVERYONE CAN SEE THAT THEY NEED TO HARD RESET THEIR PHONE AND PEOPLE CAN STOP WASTING THEIR TIME.

    TO HARD RESET:

    • HOLD DOWN HOME AND POWER BUTTONS SIMULTANEOUSLY FOR 10 SECONDS

    • THE PHONE SHUTS ITSELF DOWN (IGNORE THE NORMAL PROMPT TO TURN IT OFF)

    • ONCE IT SHUTS ITSELF DOWN, LET GO OF THE BUTTONS, IT'LL HARD RESET ON IT'S OWN.

    IT WORKS!

Reset did not work for me either.  Neither did starting over and setting it up as a new phone.  My usage and standby are very similar while not using it all night (7 hours vs 8 hours).

Then for those of you who tried all the prescribed methods, and none worked, unfortunately you have BUM batteries. It happens, there is a pretty constant failure rate, that is dependent upon the product line, with every product on the market.

    Even batteries.

It would behoove you the most to spend your time calling Apple and getting a replacement.

I did, with my first 3Gs phone.

I'd get on calling Apple IMMEDIATELY if you want a NEW replacement and not a factory refurbished one, you know, before those 100's of thousands of people do the same thing and Apple decides to replace with a better battery and send out those returned phones.

EVERY company does it, even Apple.

So at 4 hours I'm at 95% having done not much more than playing 2 hands of Solitaire and checking iClud/my Imap email server and sent 1 SMS from the UK to a US iPhone 3 located in the US.

Yes that's better but I've made no calls so this is far too soon to know if drStrangeP0rk's solution procedure is completely solving it.

I should sure as 'eck not have to do that to get the handset to work as it did on 4.3.3  Apple --

Very Poor Show of it all you Apple iOS lot!

I did all the recommended things to my iPhone 4S, I drained it completely, I did the hard resetting, I switched the notifications and then updated the software. My battery is draining so fast. Yesterday driving from NYC to Massacusetts the battery went from 99% to 54%, the phone was not in use. All notifications were set to off position. I miss my regular IPhone 4, I could go days without charging. I just bought an emergency battery for this phone in case I'm out and it drains, I need  to have a realiable phone. Apple I have all your gadgets, fix this!!!!!!!! Jobs would not want his customers to be going through this with one of his products, that's what separated Apple from Microsoft. They would just say whatever, it must be you, not Apple!!!!

Make sure after doing all the steps to let the battery drain and charge.

Depending on your device configuration, that will determine what you need to do and your results.

We have downloaded the thread to get configuration infor so we can narrow down to device, OS, provider, etc.

Make sure, the more data the more useful the analysis will be.

    Thanks.

I asked a blue shirt at the Apple store yesterday if anyone else has menitoned the lack of "update" for the battery life on iOS 5.0.,1 and he hadn't heard anyone complain about it.  He gave the usual change the settings on wifi/mail/apps/etc, which I did...still sucking the life out...

Literally 45 mins of music time, and I'm drained down to 60/65%  WEAK!

I was just on the phone with Apple Support, they no nothing about this battery problem. They said that the new update was supposed to take care of the battery problem. (we know that it didn't). I can't believe that no one there know's about this. Has anyone heard from Apple that they are working on this problem?

Again, try all the steps, no one is saying it is you. You may in fact have a bad device which return and be done with at the store. Users are reporting the fix worked, so you can try it out. In your case you might be better of going to an APPLE STORE near you location (<<<DATA REMOVED>>>) and seeing if they can restore it or test your device.

Did you have APPLE move your old phone data to the 4s?

Did you get it from your provider or directly from APPLE?

Provide OS and rev information to APPLE if you need to contact them at the following sites POC.

Best place to start, need to provide your HARDWARE ID- http://www.apple.com/support/contact/

Validation of Device to provider: http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/contact/

    Service Answer : http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipho ne

    Express Lane Service: https://expresslane.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.do

more information is better, since they are going to ask so have all the OS and specs ready. You can get this in General>About on your phone.

    Good Luck.

May be worth a walk in or contacting the links above, at this point if doing all the steps did not work for you.

    Good luck
