Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

    drStrangeP0rk,

Thank you for your persistence in trying to give good advice.

Unfortunately this thread has turned into a whine-fest where people would rather complain than read.

After following this for the last week, and trying to give some maybe useful info, I give up.

There seems to be little interest in finding out what the people who have sucessfully solved the problem are doing.

    Good luck y'all

You would think that Apple would make the update reset the phone after completion if that helps... it makes you wonder.

I charged up to full yesterday evening. The 4s was on standby overnight. This morning the battery low warning appeared and after a little browsing the battery went from 7% or complete shutdown after 10 minutes of browsing through Safari. This is now the second time I have let it drain to 0% since getting it a month ago. Not impressed

Come on Apple, please hurry up and sort this issue. My iPhone 4S cable socket is getting worn out from the number of times i need to plug it in!!!

You would think that Apple would make the update reset the phone after completion if that helps... it makes you wonder. They used to be about "usability" and all.

The forum was always a whine fest. And that's to be expected when people pay a grand for a phone and get flaky results. On the other hand, Apple support could have intervened directly in the forum and posted links to a knowledge base article documenting the best practices to solve the issue - they did not. They could have made an app that trims down all the 3G intensive config to save battery - they did not. They could have chosen a reasonable set of factory configuration - they did not. They could have waited before implementing Siri or they could have chosen a more potent battery than with the IP4 - they did not. The Iphone users and Apple user base in general are one of a kind - they're used to everthing working right away and have no debugging methodology because Apple have made them like that i.e. IT is magic... well it's not magic, it's just some hardware put together with some OS and tons of non Apple software i.e. apps... So it's a first "wild" experience. Lessons should be drawn from this. Hopefully someone at Apple will be studying this as they need a different approach for the next "gate". Also, some users think they're the center of the universe and that they really matter in the grand scheme of things - this world is about money. Put your money where it counts and if someone isn't deserving of your money then take it back and put it somewhere else until next time and move on.

I was excited for is 5.0.1 that was suppose to fix battery issue but it made it worse. Last night my phone was charged at 2 all the way to 100%. By 8 it was at 16% and I was at a game and dinner so not using it.

Then a weird thing happened. It said 15%, I put away for a minute and hit bottom button and wouldn't turn on. So I hit power button and symbol saying it needed to be charged appeared. I put in my pocket and half hour later it turned on and said 10%.

I have had each iPhone and this issue is bad. Please fix. I have tried all suggestions posted here and nothing helps.

If apple is listening and wants to run diagnostics on my phone I am willing to help get this fixed.

I'm quite tech savvy and the first thing I did was a hard reset, added the phone as a new one, did all the things which were suggested here in this post. Nothing helped.

Many people here tried those suggestions and it simply didn't work for them.

So it's not everyone here that didn't read your suggestions, apparently you didn't read ours neither.

    IMO, it's a problem with 5.0.1, I didn't have any problems with 5.0 on my 4s

Maybe so. But most ask for help and suggestions. Then, it seems, have no interest in making it better.

You could be right. Maybe the whiners here are the people who don't/can't participate in understanding or fixing the problem with the iPhone.

Maybe the people who have taken the time to read have fixed their phones and don't bother to come here anymore. Hmmm, I should learn this lesson.

My iPhone had all the same symptoms phantom battery drain, having to recharge in 4 hours etc. I initially believed that it was more than a iOS problem and that the battery must be defective too.

I followed some of the advice here, installed the update, and now I have a phone that is behaving the way it should. Actually, my talk time may be better than spec.

I CAN SEE WHY APPLE IS SLOW TO RESPOND. IT TAKES A LOT OF TIME TO SORT THROUGH ALL THE WHINNING TO GET USABLE INFO!

Oh well, at least I know how to turn the email notification for this forum off! LOL

Interesting that Orange in the UK is calling it a HW issue. Please let us know if it fixes the problem. Maybe some phones really do have a HW problem. Maybe there are 2 problems going on.

I have turned iCloud back on. Battery drain problem on idle has not returned. Guess it's not iCloud causing it.

Do you have a link for Orange saying it's a hardware problem? I can't find anything about it I look around.

Just wanted to add my 4S to the number of phones that STILL HAS BATTERY PROBLEMS.  I have noticed NO CHANGE since I upgraded to 5.0.1.  For instance, I have not used the phone at all today.  I charged the phone all night.  After 2 hours of standby, the battery is already at 90%.  What gives?  This is terrible! I am assuming that we have DEFECTIVE batteries.  Please change them Apple!

I agree, the battery life is less than what I started with.
