Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

    Help required!

I tried just about all of the suggestions in this conversation without too much luck - HOWEVER, I solved my 4S battery life issue by removing my Gmail account!

Okay I have noticed that everybody here is freaking out. The problem it's not the hardware its the software of  iOS 5. Everybody's focusing on the battery. But it's more than that. You know there's over eight bugs on this software. I'm a developer have been working with the iOS beta for 4months. Problem it's the battery management system on the software. The hardware and software for the 4/S it's not yet tune work together. Apple is going to release an update for the software. Wait for it. Again the big word is wait for it. I have talk to the Apple engineers and their are aware of the problem. There is a fixed. iOS 5 is  big update which has been rewritten completely. Not like the old 1-4 version for the iPhone.

In final just relax take a deep breath and wait for the new update coming out anywhere from week to two

Certainly, we don't need to freak out... I agree... but, in just the last few pages alone, there have been a number of suggestions that will definitely help improve battery life... I suggest for now that people help themselves by educating themselves because there is no absolute silver bullet for resolving these issues.

well i am not having this issue of the battery lying to me , it pretty much makes sense to me and so far it is right and it is on par with my usage., and yes i agree its not a hardwae issue ... somewhere something;s not right with the iOS5 communicating with hardware or unnecessary usage of some stupid applications!

Well, that's exactly i had said in this forum before. Thanks for teh clarification. But one point? So you work for apple? and you have heard it directly from apple engineers?

On one hand, the iPhone is like a car, it can go really fast but, if you drive around at 100 mph, you will get poor mileage... On the other hand, from my experience, there seems to be a software issue with the wifi/location services in particular.  This issue has a dual-nature in that people may not have full control of the battery life of their phone but they do have some.  While everybody is waiting for any fixes that may be coming, we do have a lot of options for improving battery life.

I've been prowling around in the 'Location Services', and under 'System Services' I noticed that 'Cell Network Search' was on, and it had the location icon indicating it had been used. Does anyone know what this setting does, and if turning it off will affect the phone negatively and/or help the battery life?

I would venture to say that this has to do with the hand-off between towers... For example, I am sitting at home right now so if I turned that off it may not make a difference... but, when I leave, cell services may not function properly if this is turned off.

I'm not sure it's a celluar issue.  I've seen my battery drain while at home, at work, and even today at the mall.

And for people who think it's an Exchange issue, I don't have Exchange, I do have several Gmail accounts that I do "Push" for every 15 minutes, now set to 30 minutes on Apple's recommendation (hate that though).

I did receive a call from Apple today.  The guy who called me was just gathering infromation for the engineers.  We were on the phone for about 40 minutes going over my usage, wifi, apps I use, emails blah blah.    No solution yet, and was told I may or may not receive a return call.  Since my battery has improved a little I don't think I will receive a call back about the battery but I was relieved to see that Apple is actually paying attention to this particular forum.  I've had other issues that had countless responses and never received any call or acknowledgement from Apple etc. etc...that's another story.

I contantly check my usage against my sister's iPhone 4S, and she continues to blow my little battery away.

    I miss you iPhone 4!

    This is a joke.
I let it run completely flat again for the third time since I got the phone.
Charged it 100% and took it off charge and put it in my pocket.
40 minutes later I pulled it out to check the time and it's warm and has dropped to 92%

Getting really annoyed with this now.

I think this is great but unless Apple wants an antennagate they need to SPEAK UP!

    Yes, noticed that one too.

Standby 15h 26m, usage 8h 4m, when in fact usage was more like 30m tops.

Also, I charged the battery around 15h ago, so if you add up standby and usage, that's just wrong.

Great that it's being looked into, I wonder in my case whether it has anything to do with the 16 pictures and videos I took when out. I recharged the phone but left it on next to me overnight as I needed the alarm.

Woke up in early hours of this morning... battery dead...

So, was it because I had 'photo's switched on and it was photostreaming... nevertheless, very surprised to find the battery dead.
