Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I have also discovered another possible battery draining culprit. If you use Siri to set location based reminders, but don't check them as 'complete', it continually monitors your location. I had one set to pick up a prescription when I left work last Thursday, but hadn't marked it complete. Under 'Location services', it was showing the purple active arrow until I checked the complete box, then it went grey.

After following this forum (and others) since I noticed the really poor battery life I have tried everything suggested on here but it's still very poor. I thought I would give it one last go yesterday - set up new phone with no apps and everything turned off (siri/location etc etc) and chraged it up (for some reason I never get 100% either even though I have calibrated it - only 96%) - I left the phone without using it and after 15 hours standby my battery is down to 50%. Even though I haven't used it the usage figure is 7.5 hours.

I am really disappointed in Apple and will be sending the phone back. Given the amount of complaints on twitter/forums etc you would think they would acknowledge that there is a fault and at least tell us they are working on it. I suspect they will be getting a lot of returns unless they announce something before the 14 day return period is up.

Deactivation of the following functions will not do anything, since the iPhone 4 with an identical backup is working, and the iPhone 4S no, rather it is not the fault of some settings.

I was losing around 8-9% an hour without using the phone at all.

I deleted my mail accounts and then it went down 1% in the next hour after that.

I've just readded one and so far the battery isn't draining fast.

I had similar battery life issues (5 hour life).   I disabled these functions below and my battery life now is normal.

    I removed

    - most notifications (I think the Stock ticker could be a consumer).

    - disabled Siri - Raise to speak option

    - disabled location services for most apps except a few (Siri, Maps, Weather,..)

    - diabled Wifi sync with itunes

    - diabled icloud sync & auto backup

I plan to enable one of these at a time to isolate the drain starting with i cloud.

    -  I also removed find my Iphone.

After doing this, make sure you power cycle the phone.

I have also tried everything suggested on this thread - I have come from a Blackberry to the Iphone 4s - maybe not such a wise move!!  My phone sits here and I watch the battery decrease. This morning it was charged to 100% and within an hour with only checking emails and reading the Sky News headlines, I was down to 84%.  I have done a factory reset whilst on the phone to Apple and restored from my Mac backup.  I have also done a DFU reset where the phone goes into safe mode and restored from ICloud.  I have switched all location services off and everything else suggested here!

I have now switched the features I want back on - what is the point of having a phone that I can't enjoy the benefits of?

I have an appointment tomorrow at the Genius Bar but am not sure whether to insist on a new phone or to believe the posting from the software developer on this thread and wait for a software update. I am in the UK - so the problem seems to be global!

    Suggestions please!!!!!

The iPhone 4S is my first Apple product, and I don't know how I lived without it for so long.  That said, the battery life is absolutely unacceptable.  For 4 hours last night, I had Airplane Mode ON, and left the iPhone untouched, and the next time I went to use it, it had drained from 96% to 77%.  I had the "push" settings to manual, but that shouldn't matter at all in Airplane Mode, as the phone should have NO capability to transmit or receive any communications over the cellular, WiFi, Bluetooth, or GPS in Airplane Mode.

With no external connection of any kind, and with no use, my iPhone should be able to come close to matching the "up to 200 hours" of standby time per specifications.  19% battery drain in 4 hours does not appear to be on schedule with such a standby life.  There is clearly another problem, and Apple needs to figure out what it is.

Hey people don't panic. This s just normal for Apple after every major iOS update.I had simmilar problems with my 3GS. I tried this:

    1. Disable 3G it drains a lot of the battery life-and use it just when you need it.

    2. Disable notification settings.

    3. Disable location services ( use just when you need it )

4.Turn off wi-fi when you don't use it.

5.ANd the last disable celular data. You don't need it,its just draining your battery life.

And then it left to buy a Nokia 6310 and live happily with the weekly duration of action.

You're kidding, right? In order to use this phone you have to disable everything that you got an iPhone for? Ridiculous.

Do we really only have 14 days to solve this?  Joke!  Apple should stand behind this phone and fix everyone with a battery problem like we have with no 14 day cut off!

Been having battery "issues" as well, with the first week of my 4S behaving worse than the iPhone 3G it replaced (which had a 3 year old battery!).  It's pretty clear from everybody's posts and my own experimentation that no combination of phone settings has a meaningful effect on battery life.  By the end of most days this week the phone was at 50% or less battery life, with very minimal use.

It's strange though, yesterday I was at home most of the day, and the battery behaved as I expected a new iPhone's battery should behave.  By noon it was still at 95% with light usage.  However, I ran an errand at about 3pm and while driving around the phone became quite warm and the battery lost 15% over about a half-hour.  Definitely something strange going on. My wife's identically set up phone also came along for the errand and didn't get hot or lose significant battery life.
