Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

    For a 6hrs 3G internet device... 100% / 6 = 16.6% per hour with intense 3g internet use

    1% / 4mins = 15% / hour

For intense and continuous internet use, it seems reasonable in terms of specs. Video is rated for 10hrs. So you can do the math and it should yield 10% per hour of drain. But then again, if your video is streamed then it is 3G internet use...

Is anyone who is experiencing issues using the "reminders" app with the "at location" feature? I would assume this would put a major drain on the battery since it is constantly searching for your location. It would be similar to using a gps app, and I don't think it would show in the open apps, nor is there a way to disable the location services for this app, because it doesnt show in the list.

My 4S is brand new, meaning it had a new SIM card, my previous old phone was so old the SIM card woudln't fit.

So my battery problem isn't the SIM, or at least using a new one. A new SIM card is in and I have the battery drain problem.

That's interesting. I have noticed the same thing. Look at that usage of nearly 8 Hours. and I bet you have hardly used it at all? I have experienced the same thing. I send a message or two, then I go and check usage and it says like 2 hours?

    I'm like ***?

    What are our options?.

    1. Just wait for announcement or software fix

    2. Take to apple store for replacement? will they exchange it?

    3. Sell the phone on ebay to some other poor unsuspecting sap and then go back to iPhone 4 or alternative device?

    About exchanging it...

I went to an Apple store this weekend and asked the so-called "genius" about two things:

    1. Why is my screen tinted yellow and of such low contrast and can anything be done with it. First thing he does is turn the brightness up on my and my friend's iPhone 4S (which does not have the yellow tint nor battery issue) to "compare them". I mention to him that I never never have the screen at anything more than 25% brightness because the battery drains even faster. His reply, "Well, is the tint preventing you from using the screen?"

    2. Shocked by his answer, I then asked him about the horrible battery life on my phone. His reply, "Apple is working on it. They'll fix it or if it's a hardware issue they'll take care of it."

He didn't even offer to replace the phone even though that's the store I bought it from the day after it was released. This may be the last Apple thing I ever buy. Plus, I noticed that they no longer have Mac Pro's on display in the store; it's iMacs all the way on one side and MacBooks on the other. Go figure.

I think this weekend I'm going to go in there and ask him about the rattle near the camera lens. Maybe he'll ask me if the noise is preventing me from using the camera. Genisus were so much better in Apple stores years ago, now they're all attitude.

I see you have your 'location search' icon showing. That means your phone is constantly pinging cell tower to determine your present location. Turn 'location services' to "off", and you should see a markedly improved performance.

My 3gs has a terrible battery life I didnt use it for 6 hours and when I checked it it was down to 50% I think it is the location services that helped a little

I understand it's a sad experience but those guys are just staff. Honestly, Apple is a business and not a charity so why wait for them to "offer" you anything? Just ask what you want and if the employee is flaky, ask to see his boss etc. Make it happen.
