Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Dumb question for everyone who is having the worst of the battery draining problems:

Did you activate the NEW SIM that came with the iPhone, or did you swap in an existing SIM???

Well I will add my two cents. I TOO have the same problem. I have had a iphone 4 for about 3 months. It had OS4.8 somthing loaded when I purchased it.I dont use it alot and the phone has never been below 50 to 60 pecent after being on all day, 12 to 16 hours. Yesterday I pluged it in to itunes and it suggested that I update the OS to 5.0.1 so I said ok and let it do it's thing. Bad move, it now is sucking my battery dead!! At 0600 thismorning it was at 100% when I unpluged it. It is now 12:20 and it is at 28% I have made 1 5 minute call and that is all. What the F---K!!!!!!

I switched to a 4S after feeling connected to a charger by an umbilical cord with my Samsung Fascinate...I heard my wife and others rave about the battery life...now, with both of our phones on 5.01, I'm losing 25-30% of my battery in 3-4 hours of light to moderate use (email, facebook update)...unreal...I'm really disappointed

I feel your pain, and you probably don't want to hear this. But I'm getting around 2 days from a single charge.

I took my 4S on it's first business trip yesterday...took it off the charger around 9:30AM and had a 12:20PM flight...landed a little after 2 and drove to a Metro station (DC)...thought I would sightsee a little bit...by the time I got off the Metro at Federal Triangle, I had to look for a Starbucks to plugin and charge my phone...got it to 50% and went out to take some pics and see monuments...by 7:30PM I had 4% battery life...

My iPhone 4S has been a bitter disappointment. One would have thoughtthat Apple of all companies would have thoroughly tested this product beforerelease. Most people are on the move and need a phone that would last theentire day on one charge. This is an epic problem that should have been sorted.I just bought a new Samsung Galaxy S2 that has far superior battery life and mynew iPhone 4S is on eBay at $1 reserve.

    Apple, what were you thinking?

Before i done that it go down from fully to 85% in just one hour in standby mode.. But now It just only drop to 99% in 70mins

My battery is awful. 34% after 2 hours, 48 minuets of Usage, and 8 hours, 58 minuets of Standby. I don't know what to do. I've reset the Settings (General>Reset>Reset All Settings) and completley drained twice. I'm losing hope here.

My question to all the users ---

    1. What is an acceptable battery life to you?
    2. How many things do you want to do while expecting the batter shouldn't drain at all or to a minimum?

Can some users reply to this please so we all maybe understand what everyone is doing and why the phone might be loosing battery so quickly?

Again, I charged my phone 2 nights ago fully, went to bed and woke with a 2% battery chage loss.  This is when I still had some other notifications on like facebook, siri, mail, messages etc. nothing too crazy.

Well, I would say that if you leave it overnight, it should really only lose about a percent - unless you're getting tons of emails and notifications in the middle of the night.  200 hours of standby equals a .5% drop per hour. So, considering real world issues, 1% loss is acceptable.  I wouldn't be overly upset by a 2% loss, either, to be honest.

But overnight you're primarily using standby.  My real issue is with usage life.  My standby time has increased dramatically after recalibrating the battery and restoring the phone, but I do wonder about my usage battery life which seems to be significantly lower than I believe it should be.  I'm not streaming a lot of videos or music... I'm not playing a lot of graphically or cpu intensive games; I'm using email, sending texts, reading books and occasionally listening to the music I have on my phone.

I'm going to test something out soon.  After I've done my second battery recalibration, I'm going to put a video on the phone, put it in airplane mode with no other apps open and watch the video... a 2 hour movie should only drop the battery 20%.
