Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

    Guys,

I have a brilliant idea. Turn off the battery percentage.

Then you will focus on other things in life than how fast the percentage is dropping.

In my case I don't really know if the battery is good or bad, but it lasts all day for me with heavy use. So I charge the unit during the night and I have basically no problem with that.

Maybe the specs from Apple with 200 hours standby is Bulls**** but to be honest I don't really care as long as it last all the day.

I just don't get it.  I have a good battery one day, and horrible the next.  I am at 30% after 4 hours!  I listened to music for about 45 minutes and made 6 minutes of phone calls.  I am trading this piece of junk back in.

Similar issues here: on an iPhone4, just after installing 5.0.1, battery goes down really fast in stand by mode. It was all fine until this update.

Sounds like some GPS-related service is draining your battery.

Yeah, ya know darobman, you're right... because people can fix a iOS or hardware related issue when they have no direct access to the iOS or hardware.

Hey, while you're at it, can you fix my car without having access to it or ever seeing it?

And like 50000 pages of posts on here is going to make Apple move any quicker on it than they already are.

yeah, they should just put out an update and screw up some more things, sounds like a plan, huh?

Give me a break, get over yourself.

    <end sarcasm>

Awwe, I guess you didnt read my post but I'm sure most people understood.  Here, let me help you.

I did not say we can FIX anything here only "...(we) are trying to find temporary solutions until Apple fixes the problem once and for all. "  I also didnt say that the posts here were going to make Apple move any quicker, on the contrary I suggested everyone call Apple directly.

BTW, your page count is just a bit off and your car analogy is stupid.  By that logic, Apple wont be able to fix my phone either because they do not have acess to it.

I am late to the party, perhaps because I've not had any battery life problems -- but also because I didn't realize it was a problem for people with iPhone 4.

I have a 4, updated to iOS 5 the moment it was announced.  Then updated to 5.0.1 the day after it was released.  So far no problems.  I only notice rapid drain when I use it extremely heavily with lots of Apps, but that's no change from before.

But, I have activated very few iCloud options: only Reminders and Find My iPhone.  Also Documents and Data (using 3G when WiFi unavailable).  Perhaps that is significant. That's the only reason I report now.

I don't need a Calendar sync because most of my calendar is maintained by our IMAP calendar system at work.  The few items I need to sync in my personal calendar I can do with iTunes.  Likewise with contacts, notes, etc.  I figured that enabling Photos (lots!) or Backup (the phone is nearly full with stuff) would be asking for trouble.  I suppose I could enable those just to see what happens and to join in the battery-life fun, but I've got better things to do at the moment.  (Or at least things my Boss things are better for me to do!)

    Good luck, all.

About 12 hours ago I received the Apple download related to a fix of the battery issue but I don't see where it impacted it whatsoever. I too charge it everynight and I can live with that.

    I do love the 4s!

    HI,

I had the same battery drain issues with my Iphone 4 updating to ios 5 and my new Iphone 4s

There is 2 features causing that problem.

The one for me causing the problem was the contact sync with Icloud, The CPU of my Iphone 4s was always on

a work load of 50% (using the app system status in the app store ) when this feauture was on.

There is a prosesses working in a loop when there is a mismatch of the contact between the server , the phone and the computer.

By disabling the feature my battery consuption had return to normal.

The cpu now when the phone is idle has a work load between 2% and 5% which is normal.

The other is a location service that goes in a loop to ...i dont remenber which one ....

    Hope that's help anyone

AFTER GENIUS BAR - well, the only thing genius bar did was run a diagnostic which showed my battery is ok.  They turned off time zone and now my battery is worse!  It went down 6% in an hour and I haven't even done anything!  I'm seriously considering the Samsung galaxy s2.  My husband has that phone and likes it.

Well, after having had what was REASONABLE battery life on 5.0, now on 5.01 it is WORSE.  Not sure why, or what has happened.  I still have most things in the location settings and services set to OFF.

5.01 DEFINITLY is going down faster for me, I used to be able to get six hours usage and about 1.5-2 days, now it is about 1.25 days at most.

Also I have this new damb ECHO problem and calls don't come in.  BAD BAD software update.

One thing I will note is that the phone will literally charge in 1 HOUR!.  From 3% to 100% in one hour, now THAT is something.

Maybe apple just monkeyed around with the %% setting?

I can't even get that!  Im almost down to zero and I barely used it today.  I'm seriously considering a Samsung galaxy s2.   Im really getting tired of this.

I also have a crap battery life, but when you turn almost everything, you do get a very good battery life.

Turn it on to check it out :

    Turn off:

    - wifi

    - siri

    - icloud

    - imessage & facetime

    - Cellular data

    - bluetooth

    - location services

Then you will get a very good battery life

And yes i know that is not what we want, this is a solution until apple comes out with a solution that works.

Turn step by step what you want to use and check how mutch battery lost you got, i think it is det cellular data that drains/tap the battery.
