Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Simple fix that worked for me, I deleted all email accounts, turned location service off on everything, turned off blue tooth and cell data as well.  Pretty much just turned the smart phone into a dum phone so that all it can do is make or receive phone calls.  Then I charged it back up to 100 % and limit my cell phone conversations to 30 seconds.  I also avoid using it during full moons and if the temptrature outside is greater than 75 degrees.  If you do all that you will see a dramatic increase in battery life, heck I have seen it make it the entire day and never dropping below 40%!!!

LOL, nice!  When I first read your post, I was getting ready to reply that you shouldn't have to do that, but then the sarcasm detector in my brain kicked in.

I call APPLE CANADA...........the first thing he told me: push twice on home button.........the apps that you see in

bottom screen are working in background , click on these apps , then you will see a small red button on the app,

click on the red button to remove all , one by one.

The thing is when you click on apps on home screen , the phone keeps all apps in background after.

So when you know you are finish ,clode these apps.

    But i an septic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He told me that's the main reason for the battery drain............

Do not listen that someone from Apple Store! , that he wrote some idiot - I am never close any application from the bar and I never iPhone 4 power not consumed, this is only 4S problem. Anyone that removes programs from multitasking bar is doing stupid and senseless.

Anyone who is new to the iPhone I can only tell that such miracles occur to me to be the first time - my 4 with an identical backup consumes 3% overnight, 4S able after 30%. May this wine was only iOS, not the phone.

A multitasking applications in the bar are not the fault, as well as all kinds of settings.

I came from a Blackberry so my iPhone 4s 64GB black on AT&T was set up as new.

I currently have 3 email accounts set up with fetch at 15 minutes, 1 Gmail account setup as Exchange using push for email and contacts.

iCloud Contacts, Reminders, Bookmarks and Find My Phone are on.

Siri is on. Raise to Speak is off.

Location Services is on. Compass Calibration, Diagnostics, iAds and Setting TimeZone are off.

    Bluetooth is on.

    WiFi is on.

Diagnostics are set to Don't Send.

In the 8 minutes while I have been looking up my settings and typing this email on my computer, my battery has dropped 3%.  Really?  Just browsing through various pages of settings for 8 minutes and I lose 3%?  That seems pretty bad to me.

And I kept track of some of my battery percentages:

    2011/10/18 02:40pm = 100%

    2011/10/18 08:00pm = 069%

    2011/10/18 10:20pm = 060%

    2011/10/18 11:10pm = 053%

    2011/10/18 11:20pm = 050%, 02:57 Usage, 07:20 Standby

    2011/10/19 12:50am = 038%, 03:38 Usage, 08:52 Standby

    2011/10/19 01:42am = 037%, 03:48 Usage, 09:44 Standby

    2011/10/19 09:15am = 023%, 04:27 Usage, 17:17 Standby

    2011/10/19 09:17am = 022%, 04:29 Usage, 17:19 Standby

    2011/10/19 09:20am = 021%, 04:32 Usage, 17:22 Standby

    2011/10/19 10:15am = 016%, 04:47 Usage, 18:17 Standby

    2011/10/19 11:20am = 010%, 05:05 Usage, 19:22 Standby

    2011/10/19 11:22am = 009%, 05:08 Usage, 19:23 Standby

    2011/10/19 12:09pm = 005%, 05:27 Usage, 20:10 Standby

    2011/10/19 12:32pm = 001%, 05:51 Usage, 20:34 Standby

    2011/10/19 05:30pm = 100%

    2011/10/19 08:13pm = 100%, 00:11 Usage, 02:42 Standby

    2011/10/19 09:22pm = 098%, 00:16 Usage, 03:52 Standby

    2011/10/19 09:45pm = 095%, 00:36 Usage, 04:15 Standby

    2011/10/19 10:08pm = 100%

    2011/10/19 11:08pm = 090%, 00:13 Usage, 01:00 Standby

    2011/10/20 02:37am = 045%, 00:50 Usage, 04:30 Standby

    2011/10/20 03:50pm = 041%, 01:05 Usage, 05:43 Standby

    2011/10/20 05:24am = 039%, 01:17 Usage, 07:17 Standby

    2011/10/20 06:18am = 036%, 01:30 Usage, 08:10 Standby

    2011/10/21 09:15am = 100%

    2011/10/21 09:52am = 100%, 00:08 Usage, 00:40 Standby

    2011/10/21 11:47pm = 065%, 02:18 Usage, 11:45 Standby

    2011/10/22 01:37am = 100%

    2011/10/22 07:54am = 000%, 01:47 Usage, 06:17 Standby (I was asleep and did not use the phone)

    2011/10/23 02:29am = 100%

    2011/10/23 01:21pm = 079%, 00:52 Usage, 10:52 Standby

On the the 21st I went about 12 hours and lost 35%, not great but not too terrible.

On the 22nd, while I was asleep, I lost 100% in about 6 hours and seventeen minutes.  That is unacceptable.

I can confirming deleting mail accounts and readding worked for me. I was losing around 8% an hour on standby before. Now I did a test and lost only 10% in 7 hours and received 41 emails via push in that time!

    Try it people.

Well another interesting wrinkle in my 4S battery life. My wife and I went to the movies with some friends today at 12.30PM. I had charged it fully before we left. While out, I sent a few texts and played with Siri a few times. After being out for a little over 3 hours, it drained from 100% to 98%. I've now been home 2 hours, have received 1 call and it has dropped from 98% to 93%. The only difference- it's connected to wifi at home.

I've turned wifi off and will check it again in 2 hours. If it's not dropped, than the problem (on my phone, at least) has to be related to its wifi connection.

I deleted my email accounts etc etc - no difference - also as soon as I come off of wifi I'm dropping percentages per minute with no use and yes I have disabled the search for other networks option. I have tried absolutely everything mentioned on this forum!!!

I will go to Apple tomorrow and get a new phone and if thats still the same may have to go back to the blackberry - at least I could make phone calls on that without worrying!!!

For me the only thing that helps the disappearance of the battery in standby mode is a plane mode. Maybe there's a bug in the software that the iPhone is still working on HSDPA? Should during inactivity, go to 3G, which is much more energy efficient.

I'm seeing the same thing reported by many people on this thread.  Battery life is sporadic.  There are times where it drops 15% in one hour even if I am not doing anything with the phone.  It's very unreliable at this point.  Just hope that apple releases a fix for it soon.

Today (Sunday) I went from 96% this morning (9 AM) to 12% by 5.30 PM with about 10 minutes of usage.  The phone gets warm as if something is running in the background but I have wifi, bluetooth, location services all turned off.  No other apps are running and still burns through the battery.

    Hi Guys,

    An update from me...

I tried everything mentioned here and nothing helps. I went two days ago to Apple store and had an appointment with a genius. He checked the battery, and although it showed that battery is "normal", my usage / standby time was so ridiculous that he just gave me the new phone immediately. I was at 29% after two hours of usage, and most of that was texting.

I waited two days (while reading your posts) to condition my new battery. And guess what, same problem. It just goes down in front of my eyes. It's definitely not about hardware. So, today I wanted to have some fun. I switched everything off (all of locations, icloud, exchange, ping, you name it) and it still goes down as before. It so funny. I give up. I'll wait for a patch few more days, and if nothing, just return it back to at&t. I spent 10 days of my life trying to fix the battery problem, I don't have time for this.

It would be nice if Apple could give us some info about when to expect a patch for this. Than I could wait.
