Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

After applying the 5.01 update to my 3GS it seems my battery life is even worse than the 5.0.

Prior to 5.0 I was able to get hours of podcast time and use of my phone and still did not need to plug it in for a day.

Now if I do not use the phone and it sits a day and overnight the phone is dead!

This is not an issue of an old battery, as the symptoms happened overnight after the install of 5.0.

Ready to dump my iphone away and move on to something new.

My guess why 2G isn't an option any more...

Apple wants Siri to perform only on the faster 3G network vs slow on the 2G.

...My 3GS has been worse since the latest update...as soon as I take it out of the dock it drops from 100% to 98% within an hour or so its down to 75%...It gets to 50-45% it immediately drops to 1% & turns itsself off!! It's utterly riddiculous. My phone has essentially been reduced to a Landline as I have to carry my charger with me everywhere & run to the nearest coffee shop to keep it alive!!

Worse still, within 5minutes of plugging it in the battery springs to life at 14%, out of curiousity I immediately unplugged it to see if it would turn it'sself off again, it didn't so I plugged it back in & it jumped to 60% battery life!!!

...Thanks but no thanks Apple, currently looking at a Samsun Galaxy...

I returned my iPhone 4S last week because of the battery problem. The 5.0.1 didn't help at all. I bought a brand new pine, same model 64GB AT&T. Woke up at 4:30am with 100% battery. Listened to music on my 20 minute drive to work, took 5 pictures, sent about 30 texts, browsed the Internet for 5 minutes, sent 2 emails, and as of 7:55am I'm at 30%. This is f****n ridiculous!!! This iPhone 4S came with 5.0 and didn't want to upgrade to 5.0.1 yet because of the complaints from some people about the update making their battery life even worse. I'll be upgrading tonight. Hoping the update does it this time. If there's no fix within my 30 days, I'll be returning this one too. Not getting stuck with a useless iPhone 4S.

I'm in the US and this is exactly what I discovered.  Swithched back to IPhone 4 after trying everything; left the 4s on my desk with a full charge, all options on, and a bunch of programs running in the background (not intentionally).

I checked the batter this morning, and it was still at 85%, with something like an hour's usage over the period.  This was similar to my first handset, which had great battery life in the box after a full reset, but had terrible (in comparison to the 4 running pre-5.0 ios) battery life both after a full rest and firmware install, and a iphone setup as new.

Its clear to me that the problem is in the cellular radio, but I don't know what exactly because the cell radio was still on on the device, showing Verizon, but not activated.  Which makes me think it has something to do with the relationship between the phone and the cellular network when the phone is activated on the network.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

You can't do that. As soon as you go to flight mode the Phone menu withing settings greys out and you are not able to change SIM PIN code...

Are you referring to remove the SIM card and then introduce again?

It has something to do with cell radios.

When i was this morning at university, very poor signal and it was constantly jumping from two bars to three, and the wifi signal was not good at all and it was constantly dropping. The battery blew one quarter away in three hours with soft usage. Now at home, good cell coverage, good wifi, three hours in standby and soft use, only dropped 5 per cent, instead of 25.

still this battery life is not normal. I'll wait till 5.0.2, if it doesnt come in two weeks, i'll call applecare and get a new iphone.

    Hey Guyz,

My battery still seems to be a problem, but till the time Apple tries to figure out something what i did was turning off the 'wi-fi' and the 'Location Services'. This has substatially reduced the battery dip but has not resolved the issue. but I can now atleast use my phone through out the day without the need to charge it twice a day which I had to initially. I turn on the location Services when I need it and then turn it off again, it is a bit annoying to do that but in the end it helps.

However the point to note is, it is all good when it is on standby, the moment I try to do some DATA activity like watching videos or streaming internet radio the battery goes crashing again. I still carry my charger with me when I go out(just incase) but since past 2 days after using this technique my battery survives the battle till I get home....

After being charged all night, airplane mode on, I'm at 72% battery.

    Time since last full charge:

    Usage: 1hour 30 minutes

    Standby: 1 hour 54 minutes

I commute riding the bus, so I check my emails, read the news, read a kindle book. And all this takes almost 30% of my battery?!

My iOS is up to date.

Day 2 with my new 4s that was repalced twice

I am still running without the Verizon sim card

Unplugged from the charger about 7:10 am 100% charge

9:30 this morning 7 minutes usage with 2 hours and 22 minutes standby still %100 percent

Noticed a lag with 3g and having full bars once last night- could be normal

In my opinion the phone still consumes battery faster than my 4 did with the same type of actual usage

All in all no drainage problems and seems to be working at an acceptable level with all the bells turned on except blue tooth and wifi

Exactly now what is going on with my phone. Standby is somewhat bare able. But any type of usage and battery just gets sucked dry.

    я замерил сколько продержится телефон:

    1 - при wi-fi + video, получается 1 час = 12 %, apple заявлено 11,1 %

    2 - при video: получается 1 час = 10 %, apple заявлено 10%

    3 - за 8 часов в режиме ожидания (ночью) у меня сел с 26% до 21 % = 5%, apple заявлено 1% = 2 часа;

    4 - music за 1 час 1 - 2%, apple заявлено 2,5 %

отсюда следует, что батарея держит как надо!!!
