Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I hear you. Fair enough... Just curious to find one person who would say that installing the 800mb didn't help though. As for the 200 standby hours, I believe it's actually possible, if the phone is disconnected from the charger and never touched until it dies, with a 0.5% per hour drain. It's just it's purely theoretical... Honestly I don't like Apple that much, but I've found their claim of 6hrs 3G internet to be quite right with a properly working phone, so I don't see why the standby spec wouldn't be on par, it's just often people believe they have 200hrs on top of normal usage, whereas all spec times are mutually exclusive.

I agree with that regarding contacts and iCloud syncing. Do as many of us, and send that feedback to Apple.

That makes sense then it is in the ios and not hardware issues if you go into your log you will see the errors and when you shut icloud services off the error stops it looks like the system is crashing and restarting a lot which also makes sense that is why the cpu cycles are high now has been 2 hours and only dropped 3% with a lot of use 6 phone calls 5 mins each and about thirty texts and app store updates and voicemail checking I don't know but looks promising to me!!!

It would be interesting for people affected by the battery drain problem to post which network you are using. It might tell us if it is specific to particular networks or not. It appears to be for me, because if I swap SIM cards to a different network everything is just fine...

    Just to get things started:

T-Mobile UK, and I get battery drain problems on the 4S

Replace with Three UK SIM, battery drain GONE!

    What about everyone else?

I read a lot of complaints from people on T-Mobile - is it their SIM?

Would be interesting to get a tally...

People like you really don't help. If you had spoken to Apple, you probably would have gotten a call, like I did asking to put a diagnostic app on your phone for 24 hours, yes Apple are aware of the issue, yes they are trying to sort this out via a software update. They did not state it would be next week but a few weeks, that's as good as it gets from as high up as anyone can go, because Apple actually call you to get info about apps on your phone, phone usage and then ask to put the app on your phone for diagnostic purposes, if you don't belive us thats up to you but Apple are not saying there is no problem. Where do you get this stuff from? Dont answer that, just call Apple and chat to them.

one the phone with  apple right now! Again! I am fully aware of how to trouble shoot as i am a IT manager for a living.. the point is to inform, that yes there seems to be software issues and a wide array of them.. Its not my job to figure this out for Apple.  Exchange of Info is great killhippie..  Maybe others are having crashes also and seems to be related to the big picture

Done. I just wanted to see how many are having problems and where the huge bump will be - Black/64GB/ATT or something else.

I'm not expecting more than an incremental improvement from 5.02, when it is released.   I like the phone, am satisfied that I can live with it as is and am reading this thread more for entertainment than for the delusional belief that after all this, someone is going to come up with a miraculous solution to the issues.

Agree. I am a happy camper here and reading this thread more likely for the entertainment because I am not a tech savvy or patient enough to keep the iPhone 4S and worked around the issues (it was defected anyway). But I really like the phone and many features come with it. I just wait for a little while and hope that Apple will fix soon for everybody.

You might feel like you're a VIP or important because you get a call and some Apple psychological support, but I don't see how this solves the issue you or others are having. People like you really don't help.

Apple seems to be in denial: they literally told me on the phone that it was an Exchange issue. I should delete the account to save batteries. Wait, I run a BUSINESS and need the contacts and calendar! Why do I need the $560 ibrick?

I will save $560.00 by returning the phone if it is only going to be usable when it is fully gimped. I can get a standard flip phone for less money and less aggravation.

Some say they are willing to wait for a fix. I tried that with the blackberry storm when it first came out.

After three days, I got another phone - it was that bad. RIM never got the Storm to live up to it's promise and potential.

I do not know if Apple will get this fixed or if we have a whole class of consumers that have just been cheated.

    Scott

    And please do the survey...

    Hello everybody.
    I had a procedure (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3391947?start=5265&tstart=0) done
to see if things improve here, but
Today I found my suspicions. The problem is with the notifications.
Just something new (ios 5.0) come into operation on notifications and
battery begins to discharge alarmingly. Today, a banner appeared saying
there was an unanswered call. Ready started all over again. My battery
is discharging quickly again. Now, the only thing that a can do is to wait my device
download completely twice, reset everything and pray that your
return to normal functioning, as it seems Apple is not even a
little worried, even because my device is not a 3g and 4S.
    Good luck to all!

I really dont care that you are a IT manager, I'm a timelord myself Helping Apple out gives a possible solution faster that this babble of rubbish, so why not lend a hand, thats the big picture here, Apple want to see whats happening in the phones that are playing up. Any point release and new handset/computer/car/ etc means we are all beta testers as thats the only way to to test on the mirriad of different setups people have, as an IT manager you should know that deploying brand new software and hardware is never done, tests have to be made to make sure it will not affect a companys sytems untill said hardware and software is proven to be reliable.

I agreed with you about the crash issues and variable ones, but I am not an IT or tech person. I know enough to get by with information. I used my phone for 4 days and called every friends, checked the internet, ect. because I didn't know why my phone drained the battery like somebody thirsty. Finally, I followed some of the instructions here and did the hard resets ( twice). When I opened the Diagnostics and Usage log, I had a horrible list of crash since the first day I had the phone. The problem was I didn't set up iCloud, no email fetched, no FB, Twitter, no location service, no bluetooth, or any social network sites. The only thing I tested the phone when I used it was you tube and got on Safari a couple times. I kept charging and charging my phone. After the reset, the idle seemed a little better. However, once I used the phone, the battery drained immediately with alarming speed and it was so hot. I returned it. So I believe there were definitely some issues with Oper system or the apps.
