Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I also have an iPhone 4S that says I used the phone while it's been in stand by... I found an interesting thing. Try taking out your sim card. I saw the usage drop.

It showed 1 minute usage on every 10 minute of stand by instead of 8. Crazy? It might have to do with the sim and trying to make contact with signal towers???

This worries me as I am going to the genius bar tomorrow - if they change the phone it could be worse than the one I have.

I reckon it must be a software problem as too many people are experiencing too many issues and that many phones can't be bad!

Too much time and effort wasted trying to solve a problem that's not our to solve and bad PR from Apple for not issuing any statement even to let us know they are aware there is an issue.

I had my phone swapped out, it made NO difference.  It's not going to get any better swapping the phone.  There needs to be an update (software or hardware) to see any better battery performance.  I'm also seeing an issue where my phone frequently never finds my microcell.  So the device it always hunting for a cell signal, hence draining the battery. I'm hoping 5.0.1 is in the works for a quick release.

I've been reading all the battery problems, but does it seem to hit a particular service provider, people haven't mention anything except a t-mobile person if i'm not mistaken, but for the most part nobody said anything about their carrier.

I have a 4S 64GB and it drains like crazy when I am hardly using it. My wife has a 4S 32GB and does not have any battery issues. Glad i'm not alone in the battery issue.

After confirming that iCloud drain the battery and the fix for it for now is to go to settings/Mail, Contacts, Calendars/fetch New Data/Advanced/ and change iCloud from push to Manuel

It will only sync when you check your data (Calendar, reminders...), so far the battery life is back to pre iOS5:)

I'm not even using iCloud (as I have no iCloud account), so I don't think that is the solution.

You don't have to open an iCloud account your iTunes account is your iCloud account.

Did you check the settings ?

If you don't complete the iCloud setup under Settings>iCloud (which I haven't), iCloud does not show up under Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

Nope, no iCloud Push on mine.  You do need an iCloud account to use any iCloud stuff.

I am having the same issue.  My 4s is draining very quickly 50% in 2-3 hours.  I have restored multiple times from backups and completed the factory restore 3 times.  The issue seemed to get a little  better after my last default restore however today I let the battery drain completely and charged to 100% from then on the phone is warm to the touch and the battery is draining extremely quick.  I'm considering taking my exchange account off to see if that helps the issue.  It is very frustrating I'm going to take it back to apple but hoping a fix is announced soon to avoid the hassle.

    Just checked actuals in settings

    Time since last full charge

    Usage 4 hours 57 Minutes

    Standby 6 hours 11 minutes

    13% Battery Remaining

I for one have Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, multiple location services, and iCloud all running on my phone.  I have used my phone steady all day today with it being the weekend and my battery life is great.  This is why:

    1. I haven't had the email issues.

    2. I have cut down on notifications as well as location services.

    3. I have turned off Location-Based iAds and Setting Time Zone under System Services.

    4. I have turned off Ask to Join Networks.

    5. I have calibrated my battery.

    6. I did a restore before I did any of this.

    7. I haven't messed with the ping settings or iCloud settings (but those may help too).

If this is mainly a software issue, as others have stated, I have solved it.  I went through the entire phone setting-by-setting and adjusted it.  I can listen to several minutes of music, play Fruit Ninja for a few minutes, and have multiple emails pushed to me before I even lose 1%... I am using the same software as everybody else.  I really recommend everybody thoroughly read the last 10 pages or so and I think we can put the kibosh on this.

I have had mine since release, and my wife can use her 4 more than I can my 4s.   I can not go all day at work without charging my phone.  I can charge to full and unplug and go to bed aprox 1 - 2 am and get up about 7 and usually at 90-92 percent.   New phone and have to turn off everything that makes it new??   Come on guys what gives?

I might of found something here, I think the bug is in the the System Service for setting Time Zone. Just go to Settings -> Location Services -> System Services and turn ON the “Status Bar Icon” option at the bottom.

You will see if the GPS is in permanent use. If you disabling the “Setting Time Zone” option immediately stops it.

I think GPS in continous use would be a major battery drain.
