Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I dont feel like a VIP I was pretty surprised, but I am not the first to get a call either, and oddly enough how it helps people is that by adding software to your phone for 24 hours gives them a snapshot of whats going wrong. I thought that was quite obvious really.

That survey needs much more variables. Such as syncing issues, Wi-Fi on/off, iCloud user or not, etc. This thread has a nice, long list of them. And... (6) iPhone color? Really?

And also it should note the battery issue is not exclusive to the iPhone 4S, way beyond the first question and title.

    @mkris101, @1AppleADayNoWay, and killhippie

Guys... no need to get mad to each others. It is just a different point of view. That is all. Everybody comes here to try to give a little bit of help except me because I am not a tech or a patient enough person to work around the issue. I couldn't stand to twist and turn the phone and turn off everything and it was still not working.

So I appreciated all of the helps that everybody tried to report here.

So please don't take anything that somebody posted here personally. It might be just a different thought process.

You guys are all great. Have a wonderful day you all!

Killhippie. You have no idea what your talking about.. As a IT manager I receive software that is labeled BETA!

none technical people don't pay several hundred dollars to be a beta tester!

For everyone else reading the post. Just hung up with a senior tech and they acknowledged issues and my case number is being forward  to engineering and they will contact me.. That dosent make me special. But I am spending my time with Apple to fix my problems and hopefully it helps apple find a fix for all.. The big picture

So for the good of all of us killhippie, keep your gibberish to yourself because you cant see the big pictures with out all the parts that make it..

Everyone else, I will post what the engineers have to say towards a solution so all you fellow "beta" testers are in the loop

So I recharged my iPhone 4s last night from 20% to 100%. After it was done charging I put it on top of my dresser and went to bed. This morning I checked it and the battery was down to 77%. This is the first time I've had this happen to me since owning the phone. Usually I charge it to 100% and wake up and it's either at 99% or still at 100%. I don't know if this is because of 5.0.1 or what but it's ridiculous. I also have everything turned off. I've had everything turned off since I got the phone in October. This is my first iPhone and I have to say that I am not impressed. I can barely use the phone because of the battery issue. I've also reset the phone and I have drained the battery completely once. I think I'll probably try draining the battery completely again and recharging to 100% and see if the same thing happens. Apple really needs to address the problems with the battery though. I want to be able to use the phone the way it was advertised. I don't expect to have every feature turned on every second of the day, but I would like to have one or two features turned on and not have to worry about my battery dying in a day.

    They will fix it.

    It's not a hardware problem.

It's a complex issue and the smartest people in the world are working 7 days a week to fix it.

    Relax, it will get done.

The main issue was Apple's statement that only 40,000 users have the battery issue and they were using Exchange.

They key point: I didn't spend $560+ to have to disable all of the smartphone features and make is as dumb as a brick.

    Did you?

Apple may have a battery issue, a defective antenna assembly issue, or it could be a software routine which is less likely across all of the users and the "small group" that is having an issue.

Statistically if only 40,000 users are having the problem, why is it being blamed on software? Isn't the hardware exactly the same? If not, why?

Unless the software is having issues installing, it should be exactly the same across the board. That is why I still think Apple is in denial about this being a hardware problem.

I agree with you on the Exchange users Mac. If apple wants to push in the corp world which usually have exchange servers, we are a very important 40,000 users that need the problem solved

I apologize to the survey takers, they limited it to 100 responses.

Making a new one right now on another site.

So far out of 100 respondents, 99 have a problem with the battery. 58 are on AT&T, 17-Verizon, 7-Sprint, 16 GSM outside the USA, 1-CDMA Outside the USA.

    87 Are on 5.01, 12 are on 5.0.

    51 have 16GB, 23 have 32GB and 25 have 64GB

    27 White

    72 Black

As for Exchange being the issue as Apple asserted yesterday, 41 DO NOT HAVE EXCHANGE. 32-Google/Gmail, 26-other Exchange provider.

Some people who don't have exchange have the issue.

The problem is most likely along the lines of:

1-The 5.0.1 update delta doesn't yield the same result as the full 800mb 5.0.1 from Itunes... most likely they pushed a delta OTA to save users bandwidth -  they didn't want users complaining that 50% of their monthly allowance was used for a "patch"... it was simply a mistake

2-A restore coming from 4.x.x triggers in some cases error conditions on 5.x - it may be possible to sanitize it by restoring it to the cloud from 5.x (export), then reimporting it afterwards

3-Some apps/configs simply don't behave properly in 5.x - exchange may be one of them - an important one at that.

4-Tons of contributing factors, including agressive network factory settings, no 3G toggle, heavy internet usage trends with lackluster battery, Siri, new CPU and 3G chip, abusive 3G persistence aka the transport daemon looping and all that, ignorance of the specs by the user base because of worship inducing type of PR and behavior, incomplete charging cycles, not having reset the device and sheer incompetence of a great part of the user base because the Apple "experience" is not technically empowering etc.

The blunder is mutlifold in my opinion. You can't reinvent the wheel on every page of the forum. These points come from perusing the posts... I mean if you late posters are going back to the stone age early beginnings of the forum trying to identify a single culprit and all, well you're just plain dumb.

Yes, Exchange users and others like me that don't use Exchange at all So we affected users are way more than 40,000.

I had no problems with my iPhone 4 battery life before iOS 5.0.1. Now in less than 4-6 hours it's drained with or without use.

Hope this is fixed for everyone, soon.

Same problem here .... battery life on our iPhone 4s is bad.

Went to the Apple Store yesterday ... had an appointment with their "Genius Bar".   No help at all.

Was told to turn everything off.......Wi-Fi, Notifications, GPS, Apps and so on and so on.
In other words, just use the iPhone as a phone.
    Okay, worth a try.

Turned my phone on this morning as I headed out to the grocery store (9:00 a.m.)....it was at 100%.

When I got home at 11:00 the battery had drained down to 79% ...... just by having it on for 2 hrs!!!!!!   With nothing running!!!!

My husband's phone is just as bad.

So, the "Genius" told us to hold on and wait awhile and Apple would have the issue resolved........

    .......we'll see!

Right now, I'm not very happy at having spent $500 on these phones!!!!!
