Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Ugh! It seem like I drew a losing ticket in the battery lottery as well. Brand new AT&T flavored 4S 32G. It has drained through 2 battery cycles in less than 48hours after opening it; note, this is with much lighter use that my previous phone, fewer e-mails, no phone time aside from a few texts, little Internet use and no games. It's just sitting in my pocket and quickly dying. Oh, I did listen tonone song while driving and lost 8% in the process! I have reverted to using my old 3G model at home on wifi for Internet and e-mail since the new phone is virtually unusable.

I am running 5.0.1, have reset all settings and even restored to factory settings. I'm running one e-mail account right now and no apps + I have followed many of the tips posted online (and here) for preserving the battery - Siri raise to speak = off, Set Date & Time automatically = off, background apps are off (there's nothing on the phone to even run in the background now!). And I'm losing about 15-20% of battery per hour. I opened up a support ticket with apple and lost 3% simply by receiving their confirmation e-mail.

Just for comparison. 32GB 4S on AT&T, 5.0.1. EVERYTHING turned on. 2 Exchange accounts set to push, iCloud all on, all location services on, etc. As of right now:

70% since full charge this morning

    Usage 2 Hours, 33 Minutes

    Standby 8 Hours, 58 Minutes

I read that as about 25% for usage at 10% per hour, 5% consumed by almost 9 hours of standby. Seems pretty close if not exactly on the money for where it should be.

This user has never had any replies or post related to MAC OSX on APPLE SITES. Joined under this Name on 11/16/2011.

These are recommendations from our earlier post after you backup the device to our computer. These have all worked for users.

    1. Update to 5.0.1

    2. Try doing a reset, some have had success with software some with hard.

Hard Reset- Hold the Home and Power Key at the same time. Ignore the slide to turn off.

Settings>General and Reset. Setup the device as a new phone.

    3. You may use XCode or iPhone Configuration Utility to check the logs to see if you have any bad apps.

There currently is no release to developers 5.0.2 or pre-release.

    Thanks and Best of Luck.

iphone 4s 32 gig black Verizon

    time syc off

    cloud off

most notifications off, kept messages, phone

    blue tooth & wifi on

did reset on itunes full download 5.01

    set as new phone

result 2% battery loss per hour on standby.  not used = 1 our standby 2 minutes ghost user consistant hourly

Very fast drain rate when using most any app

no heat issues, phone stays cool, but burns up battery fast when using

This is much worse performance than prior to update.  Standby was close to .6 per hour with 1.5 to 2.0 minutes ghost user per hour.  performance was much better when using apps or phone as well.

Waiting for next update, I hope this improves, this is my first Iphone, like the phone, hate the battery life!

Ready are you? What know you of ready? For eight hundred years have I trained Jedi. My own counsel will I keep on who is to be trained. A Jedi must have the deepest commitment, the most serious mind. This one a long time have I watched. All his life has he looked away... to the future, to the horizon. Never his mind on where he was. Hmm? What he was doing. Hmph. Adventure. Heh. Excitement. Heh. A Jedi craves not these things.

YOU LIE! How can this be possible, even if one of your full nights are 6 hours long that would mean the iPhone 4s has a standby time of 600 hours which is 3x the amount stated by apple.

    I smell a troll...

Feel free not to believe me but i told the truth!

you should know that the % decrease in a no linear way.

Effectively when i unlock the phone in early morning

after 6 hours standby the meter shows 99% but 2 minutes

later after unlock it stabilize at 97%.

Anyway a device has no battery drain issue if after

a night unused, standby time is 6 to 7 hours

and USAGE time a few minutes ONLY.

My IP4S is in this case from 3 days now.

the full week before it was not.

The only change ? I start to use a new SIM card

    my Provider sent to me.

I know that nobody takes it seriously but yet

it is the truth. Glad for that but waiting 5.0.2 anyway.

Hi I've been watching this page for a couple of weeks, I have an iPhone 4s 16gb black on 02 I had a problem with my battery but then yesterday my service went wouldn't even come back so they have me a new sim and it seems so much, I can't see how having a new sim helps but it's the only thing different apart from one other thing which is a long shot, how many of you guys have there Facebook app? Well last night I was going through the settings in the fb app and i deleted all the apps that wanted to run through fb. I'm not saying that is the answer but it certainly helped me. It's now at 53% with 16hrs 49 mins standby and 4hrs 30mins usage. It's certainly better than Wat I have been getting.

I've never installed a facebook app (never had a facebook account) and I'm seeing 2.8ish hours on average talk time before the battery dies.

In Settings > General >Cellular Usage > Call Time > Current Period

At the bottom of this screen is "Reset Statistics" which I've been hitting when I take the phone off of charge at 100% to keep a rough idea of talk time before battery dies in my head.

Like I said, on average I get about 160mins or so talk time per charge.

Oh, for the record I've never had an exchange account on my iPhone either.

In the meantime, it seems this Android phone still has some catching up to do (design&material, battery, browser maybe, screen) but it seems like the Galaxy Nexus with Ice Cream Sandwich is a powerful contender with a similar score to the IP4S, albeit for different reasons... can't wait to see how Apple will up the ante with their next phone over Android 4.0 which really impressed the reviewer... and theverge.com is not a slanted magazine like some others...
