Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

    New phone - 4s, 16g, black, AT&T mail order.

    FIRST charge was overnight.

Battery results after FIRST 48 hours:

8.5 hrs use - wifi, maps/traffic, stocks, email, web, games, video, audio books, etc.

    45 minutes talk time

    36 hours standby

I'll be plugging it in soon - almost out of battery.

    Settings:

    No Bluetooth

    No POP email

    No iCloud

    Most notifications off

    Siri on w/lift

    Exchange email with inbox push

    Brightness approx 80%

4-5 bars G3 cell 98% of the time (no cell hunting)

2-3 bars WiFi 98% of the time (no wifi hunting)

Co-worker with  early same settings and same phone is saying 2 hours use, and less than 8 hours standby before dying. What's different?

They have POP mail checking every 15 minutes.

They have 1-3 bars 90% of the day (they are in a poorly covered area, out off the office These last two days).

The have almost no local wifi.

My old iPhone 3G had similar battery life - changing email polling, turning off wifi when in the field, dumping POP mail and moving to exchange, and being in range of a decent cell signal mare all the difference in the world.

I'll keep tracking my time and settings... and see if our office can see why some have much better times than others.

    У меня ситуация такая,

когда я тестировал телефон Iphone 4s я отключил (off):

    icloud

Each user can have different usage profiles, so

video+wi-fi+ icloud will use up the battery.

Did you try the resets in Settings>General or a Hardrest?

Let the battery drain after and then do a full charge over night, make sure you are running 5.0.1.

    Good luck and thank you.

    Желаем удачи и спасибо.

It's mid November and I still have battery issues! Yes, updated installed.

For safe measure, shut off iCloud, notifications, siri and

Location services.  Battery lasts 8 hours with minimal

Use characterized by a few short texts and emails.

If apple doesn't fix the problem it will have an epic problem

affecting their brand. Waited to long for the 4s

To have to deal with this issue.  The android might

Start looking like a real smart phone. Applle fix the issue!!!!!

I have had my iPhone 64gb 4s (My first ever Apple product) for less than a week. I'm usually more cautious about buying big ticket items. My nephew has the iPhone 4 and he really likes it. Thinking the 4s was "newer, faster better!!" I dove in the deep end without checking for rocks first. Bad idea.

Battery life was terrible with 5.0. Then came the "fix" with 5.01. Same dog, only washed. I have dumbed down as many functions/settings as I can. I did a reset on it after 5.01 and thought I had it licked. Phone only lost 10% power with a bit of web page perusing and a 5 minute call in 24 hours. Came home tonight and right before my eyes the phone dropped from 90 to 75%. It did the same thing before the patch. Large amounts of battery power disappearing suddenly. I'm talking 15 to 20%.

I had planned on getting rid of my landline and making my cell phone my main/only phone. Things being what they are with this phone performing so badly, I don't see how I can trust it to do that. I thought Apple was better than this.

    Just a short update:

I still have a bad battery life on my 4s. Losing 5% in a few minutes with minimal usage, high phantom usage (usage = 60% of standby time)

    I tried the following:

    Hard rest

    Soft reset

    Restore fom backup

    Dont restore from backup

    Disabled nearly every function

Enabled nearly all functions (no big difference)

In my opinion, it might be still a software problem but deep embedded in the baseband. I had to get a 2nd sim card because my originally sim came from another iphone4 and didnt work in the 4s ( t mobile germany). But still the phone needs a long time to login to cellular network. At home, i have a low 3g signal (2-3bars).

This is very strange. I have used so many phones but never had one that cares about the fact, that the sim card was used before...

So the problem seems to be a combination of

    Unability to disable 3g

    Low network signals

    New antenna system

    Software bug in baseband

@ apple: feel free to contact me if you need more information or test settings.

Hi this Migara from Sri Lanka

    Ip 4s 16 GB

I have been following this discussion for some time as I am faced with the battery issue....

My opinion is the stand by time imopoves with a few full drain and recharge and a settings reset...But the moment you use the device you see a huge drain on the power...

There is no point spending such a lot of money and keeping most options off... In that case there are cheap devices to make calls and send texts and Bowse the net...

Apple need to address this issue on an urgen basis... Before their client base loose faith in them... I Really do not understand a company like apple launching a product which has not been tested.. Leaving the faithful client base really angered...

Over to you apple... Do something. And do it fast....

Possibly if you monitor the "Rumor" websites...but we're all just other users like you so how would we know?  We/you won't know until it happens.

I have a novel approach to the problem, it's called iBrick and involves 1 or both of these accessories...

    Hi all,

I have new phone now. What should I do to maximize the battery life? There are so many suggestions but I really need help for the essentials. I really don't want to re-read 393 pages to find the best setting . I am extremely grateful for any suggestions for a first start. Thanks a lot

After updating to version 5.0.1 the battery problem is back. Charged is fully in the evening. Today woke up with 85% battery. Pretty much nothing was opened in the background. Don't have push, bluetooth, iCloud and a lot of other stuff enabled...So the battery is losing approx. 1% per hour or more on stand-by and 1% every few minutes while using...Very crapy...And no solution in mind.
