Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

    I have a 4s on 5.0 and i had the drain problem.
Now i restored it as a new one( true itunes) and put all apps back on manualy.

Normaly true the night i would lose 10%/15% by not using it in 8 hours.
Now i didnt lose any % it is still on 100%

Normaly it would also have 2/3 hours use time while everything was turned of only Data was on.

Now i got 2minutes use time in 8 hours.

I will not update to 5.0.1 because there are troubles in that update.

Hope that ios 5.0.2 makes it all even better for all of us.

    For me the restore helped.

I am on VODAFONE in the netherlands but my iphone is lock free, bought it without a contract.

Hi I've been watching this page for a couple of weeks, I have an iPhone 4s 16gb black on 02 I had a problem with my battery but then yesterday my service went wouldn't even come back so they have me a new sim and it seems so much, I can't see how having a new sim helps but it's the only thing different

Glad to see somebody else reporting big improvement after

    using a new SIM card.

Guys, I went to Apple shop 2 days ago consulted with Genius bar folk about this battery drain problem. They gave me a brand new replacement 4s. To my feeling, all these battery drain drama is caused by hardware not the iOS software. I said this because my wife and I bought 4s at the same time. She enables everything in location service menu. Wifi / Bluetooth turned on 24/7. Her battery is all good. On the other hand, I follow every suggestions I can find from this forum and nothing helps.

The bottom line is the Usage/StandBy ratio. My old 4s got this ratio about 1/2 even I don't use the phone at all while my wife usage time is exactly the time she actually use the phone. Her 4s can last for about 2 days (48-50hr) while mine can last only about a bit less than a day (almost 24hr).

After I got the replacement, I turn everything on and the battery looks just perfect! The usage time is exactly the actual time that I use the phone. Now, I can stand by for 2 days.

2 phones with exactly same setting - different behaviour !

All these brought me to the summary of hardware problem and not the software. I suggest everyone of you who has battery drama go to Apple shop, ask them nicely for the replacement.

I personally believe that there could potentially be something wrong with factory assembly line.

ps. I wanna give an excellent credit to Genius Bar people. They take my problem seriously and they are very professional and give me a replacement without asking at all.

Do NOT return your phone. It won't make a difference. If it did make a difference for you then you are one of the lucky few.

This is a confirmed software bug! Apple will fix it soon.

I think the same. As a educated in electronic, I woud say that such hardware problem might be only due to battery itself. If not - the software is the reason.

Any way, I know guys who are professinoals in this issue and I think they will but all dots above. The guys from Apple.

Please show me where the "confirmation of software issue" is? How can so many people here have there phones replaced and the problem is over? I agree that some of this is software, my IP4 would last me 2 days before the IOS updates ****** in the cereal bowl for everyone.

    Watch the video here.

Other sources confirmed the bug 'migrating' from phone to phone when restoring different iphone saves. That can only be done with software since the hardware stays the same.

not so fast!!!! There is no way to determine bad batteries (which happen) and the software issue without fully exploring the software issue which the poster seems to have done.

I was going from 100% to 10% in an 8 hour period for my first few days of ownership. I disable most of the location services, set push on my mail to manual in advanced settings and set my screen to 1/4 bright with regular use I achived a 100% to 60% in 10 hours of regular use.

The stupid multitasking is a Pain because every time you use something you need to quit the background usage.

if my efforts did not work as well as they did,  I would be at apple getting a new phone.

I forgot to mention that this is the first time my wife and I buy iPhones so we have nothing to do with migrating. But I agree with the idea that battery issue is potentially caused by different bugs and migrating from phone to phone could be one of them.

Turn the Sync option off in your iTunes and your problems will be gone.

Currently there is a testcase with a setup of a new iPhone 4S without any migration from earlier saves( clean install ) that displays the bug. Once the finger can be layed on a specific area within the iPhone's software functionality and a workaround is established, the data will be given to Apple.

I noticed yesterday that my IP4 was doing good on it's battery. I also put the 2 together that my laptop was nowhere near me all day. Bingo! I came home and told my wife about this discovery and was glad it was working correctly. I just finished reading your site's information on this as well.

I will addd this too. The day that Match came live I was using it and my phone got very hot and the battey was discharging bg time before my eyes. So, this is another bug I believe as well.
