Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Well, my complex friend, what you listed is not an Iphone feature. It is simply a setup that can be implemented using many combinations of harware and software. Talking about a server doesn't make you more complex. The phones I listed are not toys. The fact you were using Apple products in 1984 is quite meaningless. I used products from all well known vendors at one time or another, it's just I'm reasonable enough to see the strenght and weaknesses in all products and give credit when it is deserved. I'm about functions, you're about brand and plane lifestyle. As with many Apple users, you couldn't say why Apple is "better". I could. I just won't tell you... we wouln't want you to become too complex to the point we couldn't grasp what you're about

IDK it is a feature on my iphone regardless of whether it's a hard ware or software acomplishment. The phones you listed are toys!!!! You know nothing about me, which is why you sound the fool when you speak. Did I mention those pheudo smartphones you listed are toys?? They are toys. Apple is better because for 30 years you have been able to buy it turn it on and use it 90% of the time flawlessly. You could not tell me anything because I have already stopped listening to you. Troll away on your apple hate pal I am going to work now on my macbook air listen to music from my appleTV and search a few databases for sequence identies on my imac. I might even send a few emails on my ipad and ask siri questions of moral significance.

A few more 4s battery observations:

    My specs:

    iPhone 4s 5.0.1 64gb telstra 3g Perth WA

    Ipad ios 5.0.1

iMac upgraded to os X Lion last night

    1.  I have tried most of the suggested fixes to improve battery life with reasonable success.  The last week or so have been getting 2 days between charges with 4-5 hour usage.  I had disabled iCloud.

Last night I upgraded my iMac to iOs x Lion and swiched on iCloud.  At the same time enabled iCloud in iPhone and iPad.  I enabled transfer of data for iCal, address book but not email and backup off.  Find my iPhone on.

The iPhone was fully discharged yesterday and I recharged to 100% using the power adapter.  The phone was fully charges at about 10pm last night.  All background apps were closed.  Location services were switched off and cellular data was off.

At 0600 this morning the phone had discharged to 95% having done nothing all night.

The night before enabling iCloud and all other things the same the battery was still on 100% in the morning after being fully charged the night before.

I'm pretty sure iCloud is at least part of the problem.

    2.  I did a hard reboot this morning and noticed that the location services light went on, and stayed on, in task bar.  The light stayed on for about 5 minutes and only went off after I went into settings and switched location services to off, then back on again.  Light then stayed off.

I'm pretty sure location services is part of the problem too.

    3.  I haven't noticed the same degree of battery problems with the iPad, same iOS.  I mostly use the iPad at home, on wifi.  Not sure if going away from wifi and switching to 3g (which I do more with the phone) may also be part of the problem.

Just a few amateur observations which I hope may contribute to finding a solution.

There is no hate. Apple products have tons of strenght, which I can acknowledge. You're too complex to understand my simple words. You don't think different, you think small and you make a fool of yourself by replying in such a way to the sensible things I wrote. I'm quite a good judge of character, and I read your posts before writing. I don't know you but I know the likes of you and I've seen it all. Bragging about your little devices and your little Siri friend is quite childish. I stand deviceless with a low end netbook and an old Emac. I don't need anything to speak my mind or feel important. Quite proud of beeing different than you though.

    Good work!

Wouldn't want to disturb your playing with your little toys. I am unimpressed seriously. There is no requirement to own any device to participate in this forum. That's right I don't know who you are and I don't intend to anyways. Instead of repeating words, and projecting what you are onto me i.e. prejudiced, arrogant, hateful and tasteless - whereas I've clearly spelled out what I stand for - maybe take the extra two seconds to take a look at your punctuation and orthograph, mister oh excuse me sequence identities database, as you're quite easily distracted and emotional for someone who's so busy. Keep the can for when your battery drains... Don't indulge yourself in thinking I envy you. You're maybe on par with the sudoku I do on that piece of newspaper in the morning, pal.

Good Now I'm sure you can go back to your activities and not focus on what I said, breathe deeply, stop refreshing the page and feel vindicated about it all.

The battery of my friend's 4S hardly got below 75% after a whole day of heavy usage with everything on. Hope I can get that result someday.

My 4S would be at like 40% to 50% after a day of almost no usage. Every method I can imagine has been tried multiple times, and got no difference. Not even a bit.

Perhaps I should count myself lucky, as those frequent resetting, restoring and recharging are not making my battery worse :-(

    The question is:

iOS 5.0.2 - really will happen next week (and really fix battery issues) OR only rumors (myth)?

Ok everyone , Huston we have a problem!!

1apple here is what I found.

Yesterday wife's 4s started to use battery fast without her doing much. I loaded system monitor to see what processes were running and found an assistant service kept running which I didn't see on my 4a( still running strong)

FOUND OUT CONTACT SYNC to iCloud was active continuously

Tracked it with wifi of to see 3G data movement.

What was going on was data being sent to the phone from iCloud backup. Disabled contact sync and it would stop.

Messing with it I deleted the xontact sync from the phone, hard rest , then clean synced contacts back from iCloud.

The constant data transfer was stopped.

You will only see this if you looked for it it the signal bar status when contacts/phone app was open( see the spinning icon).

Everyone this I think may be a major part of the drain problem.

I have just updated her phone just after this started to see if 501 corrected the issue. 501 was not a cause as my 4s has been on it since release. I charge every 2-3days.

    Mahalo
