Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

IR sensor seems to get stuck on with Siri, turning Siri off then rebooting seems to turn the sensor off unless a call is received or made.

This will only reduce the drain on the battery: if the raise to speak option is turned off and the phone does not kill the process, it will be killed when you let the battery die out completely.

That is what's happening, and since the process is now off from letting the phone die, it is not back on again when you charge it up.

It is still an issue with the antenna drwaing too much from the battery. No matter what we try as soon as you use the phone and it's antenna the drain is super fast.

I beleive Apple has a huge issue with two antennas in one phone. We need to be able to turn off the one we are NOT using.

They will probably have to rewrite the routines that are using the dual core chip as well to optimize them for the battery. It is probably the same battery that was in the regular 4, the major diffference between the two: dual antennas and the dual core chip.

    -------

To contrast: my original 4 has not been plugged in since Tuesday or Wednesday, the wifi has been on and it has NO service, but it is still going out to the tower.

It has 65% battery, and is still getting notifications and has ALL System services on for Location Services.

    And it is running 5.01.

Do not enter any passwd or UDID in any site that may be a link, phishers are targeting APPLE ID's. The Siri Hack needs a UDID which may result in there being a underground market for them.

    Be SMART!

    Thanks and all the best.

They should have called it the Iphone 4R, because resetting, rebooting, reinstalling, removing stuff, readding stuff, replacing the phone and reading the support forums is a common affair for "a small number" of users.

If you went to a site from this fourm that was a outside disucssion board and entered a password and ID make sure that it is not your APPLE ID. DO NOT USE THE SAME PASSWORD FOR YUR APPLE ID AS YOU DO FOR OTHER SITES, EVER!

Phishers are targeting users and want there APPLE ID. KEEP THIS INFORMATION SAFE.

It is not the first time people have talked about this. The question remains as to why it was fine at a certain point in time, and then afterwards it was not fine. People have speculated that the use of custom fields in some addresses may create sync errors. Or this cloud stuff is really all beta and it ends up corrupting itself at some point for some funky reason - for some people and not others. The most eerie thing is that not all bugs can be systematically reproduced and not every IOS install yields the same results, and for a single phone, reinstalling IOS will yield different results each time, and some phones work well for some time then something degrades. And how many users are really affected, and do these errors have the potential of affecting the entire user base? So many questions. Who really knows but Apple... but they'll just go on making patches and we'll never really know.

And now the siri ir thingy. Some people solve their issues by changing sim cards, some others by charging many times, some others by turning off features, or reinstalling, resetting, removing mail, adding it again, some others by replacing the phone or kicking it or whatever. ***.

Which is why if I get a cell phone anytime soon it'll be a flip phone. If Apple makes one, I may consider it amongst other choices. Many people have speculated in the most intelligent ways about the issues and it strikes me that things are still ungoing, maybe for a small number of users... but is it because those users use more features? or more business oriented features?

They may simply have succeeded at engineering a phone that's too complex and intricate to fully debug! New smartphones are not smart right away, which is why if I ever needed one I'd wait for months before buying into any of that. At least when you're a guinea pig for pharmaceuticals they pay you and you're supervised by a doctor lollll.

    Good luck!

Wow, you have allot of people picking up your comments. (Nov 11 was a popular.)

1APPLEADAYNOWAY, can you believe it that there are some sites and reporters that will write stories without checking on the source. What is worst there are users who spend time in the forums with disruptive intent. It would be cool if you can map it, you know see the relationships. Now, that, that would be cool. Much better than a bot, kind of a evidence builder so you can check to make sure you know where the story comes from. How it is built and does it result in keeping with the standards of the reporting agency. Alittle code, a little COTS and well..

I have to say, after a while it is really funny and who does not like a smile. . I know I do....

I hope that you find a really good flip phone...

Best of luck to all, Thanks..

I have to say, that was your most interesting intervention in my opinion. For a second there, I thought I had achieved some kind of stardom in the second rate reporting/blogosphere universe lollll. Unfortunately, it seems the links you listed most often amount to nothing more than reformatting or rehashing of forum posts by some indexing engines and such, which even contain errors in quoting what I said. Yet there are a couple of times I was quoted in some "articles" as saying that famous " but Apple users have to learn to be methodical" lollll. I guess the way I express myself and my protracted way of writing gave some credibility to what I was saying - which goes to show the type of world we live in - whereas I was just someone speculating like everyone else here, and I don't even own the Iphone per se. Which doesn't mean I don't have any technical proficiency - my comments were more interesting when they discussed support than when they discussed technicalities - I am no engineer. And I still believe some of the criticism I put forward was constructive and best of all, it was all free lollll. I'm sure Apple will use some of what I said lollll - maybe I should patent some of my comments before it's too late lolll. It was only initially meant to be a bit "annoying" but early on Mark Posner showed me the error of my ways, and afterwards in many instances I tried to help. It was never meant as a disruption - even though I am disruptive - and I refrained from going too deep into certain subjects and tried as much as possible to be polite, if blunt. Furthermore, I NEVER created other IDs on the forums. I never hide my opinions in such ways; I don't play such multiple personalities little games...

Your idea of some software for news and sourcing is quite interesting. Of course there is lots of garbage on the web, and journalism is a profession, and tons of what I see in the links and elsewhere is just not that. As much as technology facilitates communication, it also enables every single person to become a source of information and of distortion, and you'll see what relaying of unconfirmed news can do to information - we've all seen how that game plays out when we were children. I also believe it is actually possible to do some mappings of the forums posts and web elements, by using matches and timestamps, number of posts and handles and you'll find open source examples of such. Most likely you possess the ability to developp or integrate such ideas and you should build upon what is already available in the open source world. I have seen some videos of this software "codeswarm" (GPLv3) which has been used to produce such time based visualization elements for forums etc. The image you posted made me think of that and I suggest you take a look. I found your bot quite interesting to be honest...

In any case I'm not buying a phone anytime soon. Not even a flip one. I also got rid of my TV some years ago lollll. But this is another story lolllll. I like to laugh about all this stuff. It was a fun ride, although I concede if I had the battery issue I'd be a bit more annoyed. But it's possible to put things in perspective and to draw lessons from those experiences. And become more methodical lolllll.

    Good luck!
