Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

This is ridiculous by apple, how long have they been making phones now and how many phones have they rolled out and they still F**k up with their latest phone

I mean these things arent cheap, you fork out all this money for a piece of crap

I got my first iphone about 2 weeks ago, an iphone 4s,  battery is ****, updated to IOS 5.01 and that made it worse

an example, went to bed last night, turned off bluetooth. wi fi, cellular data, location services, shut down all the apps , screen locked

was at 41 % when I went to bed, woke up 8 hours later and was at 20 %   sure thats useless, phone was doing absoloutly nothing and it drained 21%  in 8 hours !!!

ridiculous, Apple, sort your sh1t out

yee have way too much money earned over the last few years and you should be able to pump people and resources in to fixing your issues, engineers should be working around the clock to fix this issue

very dissapointing , wont buy apple again and woudl encourage others not to buy !!!

Instead of complaining have you tried any of the suggestions in this thread? Sounds like you haven't done a thing and are a typical Android user that doesn't know that a phone does use battery even when you think it isn't. Do you have email set up to check frequently? Are you using 3G vs WiFi? There are a lot of different things you can change on your setup to fix the problem instead of just complaining about it.

You buy a car and want to drive it, you buy a TV to watch it and you buy an iPhone pretending to nest the upper segment to play the games, listen to the music and not to play around in a hope someday it works as expected.

whoever took the time to cut and paste all that BUMPH just above has a really sad life..... and a MUCH better battery than me! my iPhone 4s could never have coped with that. saddo.

feeling your pain everyone, I love the phone, I hope and have faith that the next update from Apple will sort whatever the problem is with the battery.

At first I thought I had a fast drain rate too during use..about 1% every 4-5 minutes. But I did a little math to see whether my drain rate was faster than it ought to be. According to Apple's site, an iPhone 4S should get about 8-9 hours of internet usage on wifi. In my case, I have 3G, wifi, and bluetooth on full time, as well as push e-mail for one inbox, and location services for 3 apps. According to my usage meter I had 43% remaining after 4 hours 19 minutes of actual use and 21 hours 39 minutes of actual standby. That includes about 10 minutes of 3D gaming (Metalstorm), about 10 minutes of Netflix, several phone calls, and a moderate amount of internet surfing. (Full disclosure, I do not have the standby drain issue..it'll hold for hours in standby with no loss.)  Doing the math, I drained 57% of my battery during 259 minutes of use. At that rate, it would take 454.2 minutes to drain 100%. That's 7.57 hours. Considering I did some 3D gaming and Netflix and ran bluetooth too, that's not bad at all. Without those, my time to drain would probably be in the 8-9 hour range, which is EXACTLY what Apple advertises. So even though I THOUGHT I had a high drain rate of 1% every 4 minutes depending on the app I was running, it turns out that IS what it should be doing. My problem, it turns out, was that I was fixated on the little percent indicator next to the battery, which made me think the phone was draining like it had a hole in it. Doing the math calmed my nerves. Since then, I've turned the percent indicator off, just so I don't keep looking at it and fooling myself. In my case, at least, the drain issue turns out to be mostly an illusion. If I am really lucky, perhaps iOS 5.0.2 will improve things a tad more and I'll squeek a full 9 hours of full use out of it as well as the 200 hours of standby.

    This seems normal.

    My settings are:

Notifications: Everything off except weather, phone, messages, facebook, stocks, and mail.

Location Services: Everything on except the system services: Compass Calibration, diagnostics and usage, location based iADs, setting time zone.

iCloud: Everything on except: contacts, calendars, and reminders

Brightness @ 50% with autobrightness, bluetooth is off, and I turned off automatically send diagnostics information to Apple.

Why would you abandon something that just has a battery problem. it will be fixed by december and if you jump ship to android then your going to be regretting it. Apple works, android is too buggy and my 4S has good battery so stop complaining, it will be fixed

    Greetings from Adelaide Australia.

Long time reader, first time poster... My 32GB white iPhone 4S had woeful battery life to begin with. I got it on release day and was so disappointed. My first iPhone and first smart phone struggled to make 8 hours before dying. I read all the posts and faithfully turned everything off. Managed a whole day but as we all know the bells and whistles are why we didn't buy a dumb phone.

I installed 5.0.1 when it was released (not remembering the perils of early adopting) and saw no change. But after my third reset all settings something clicked and the drain has stopped!! I now get About 7.5 hour of use and 35 hours standby. My use is mainly Internet on both wifi and 3G with some texting and a few emails. Actually quit a lot is just mucking about with settings. My settings are:

Wifi on, ask to join networks on

Notification centre on for weather, stocks, messages, phone, calendar, reminders, a few apps (not FB).

Location services are on for any app that might need them eg maps, around me, camera weather etc. off for angry birds etc. also off for traffic, time zone, iAds. Diagnostic data is not sent. Compas calibration and mobile network search are on.

Brightness is at about 45% with auto on.

Siri is on, raise to speak is off.

Bluetooth is off as I don't have any devices.

iCloud is on for everything but mail and backed up every night over wifi while charging.

I have only 1 email - gmail which is set to manual fetch.

I'm looking for advice... My phones never been connected to my computer as it was broken. It's now fixed and I want to put my iTunes library on my phone. What is the safest way of doing this without re triggering a battery drain issue. It seems others have had syncing issues and I don't want to kill my phone now that it almost works.

Any advice greatly appreciated oh wise people of the thread.
