Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

This freaking phone is such b.s., I am using it and it goes down 2% within 2-3 minutes of usage.  This is truly unacceptable.

Im at 85% and all i've done is browse the web for a few mins and play 5 mins of a game. Total usage so far is 39 mins, but that can't be correct either. The usage counter seems to be a bit fast. And pretty much every time I use the phone, i lose 1% every minute or so.

This cannot be what Tim Cook was talking about

    hi,

I've got this problem since I bought the 4s, I use the back up of my last iphone (4) but my battery life is only one day. Previously for the same use (with the IPhone 4) I had about 2.5 days.

I don't know what to do. I desactivated siri, mail, iCloud, and location service...

I switch it off in the evening (23h30) and the following morning when I turn it on, It lost 5%!!!

The last update (5.01) didn't change anything.

    Thanks for yor help

I'm new to the iPhone family and I have been reading all the recent issues about poor battery life with the 4S.  I purchased my 4S about a week ago and updated to the new iOS 5 software like everyone else.  But, I don't know if what I'm getting is "good" battery life or not. So these are my stats. The time since last full charge reads as follows: 12% battery left, usage is 5 hours, 35 minutes and standby is 2 days, 9 hours.

    Is this good or bad?

    Amazing!!

On my side this is : 9% left , usage 4h12, and stand by 8h15

I think that you have far better

    Perform the reference testcase :

    Switch off bluetooth

    Switch off push email.

    Everything else can be on.

    Look at your usage.

Do NOT use your phone for an hour.

    Check your usage again

If it is more than a few minutes you are probably bugged. Try the workarounds and fill in the poll here.

Since reading your post, I'm now at 11% battery left and usage time is 5 hours, 40 minutes.  So I will do as you suggest and not use my phone for 1 hour.  But what is your definition of a "few minutes" that determines if my phone is bugged?

In all my gazillion tests, if the phone setup was bugged it would show more than 2 minutes of usage per hour.

An unbugged setup on the same phone would only have max 1 minute of usage per hour.

Currently working on a workaround on a clean install iphone 4S with nothing installed and everything that could possible be on is off which shows the bug.

I did as you suggested and not use the phone for 1 hour.  Now its 10% of battery left with usage at 5 hours, 42 minutes.

So by your interpretation, is my phone bugged?

Make sure you're closing your apps when you are finished using them. I have the 4s and was amazed at how fast the battery would die, until my boyfriend told me I had about 50 apps actively running at a time. I don't know if you've tried thism, but double click the home button, hold down one of the apps until the red - sign shows, and close them all when you're not using them. I've made it a habit to close apps as soon as I'm finished using them. I know it's irritating, but it's the only way to save the battery life.

If you have 1 percent battery drop in an hour whilst idling : that is good.

If you have 1-2 minutes usage / hour whilst idling : that is good.

You don't seem to be bugged. To be sure you can do the test again. If the results repeat , I am confident you don't have the battery bug.

today was a very crappy day concerning this iphone 4s

i never had any battery drain in idle/standby till today after using the 4s for 3weeks

had exagerated drain when using, the phone heats up texting and using whatsapp but nothing i could not bear until a decent update.

    now what happened today was:

my monthly data package had ended last week, and since i wasnt using celular data until today i turned off, the battery lasted almost 1 full week, great

last night i had new data package to spend so went to celular data and turned it on, my battery was down to 1% so i left it all night charging, when i removed it from the charger in the morning the phone was hot, no apps running, nothing on, i have everything off, just imessage and celular data on.

15 mins later my phone was down to 98%, last week i got a 5h30 of standby till it drops to 99. i almost fell of the chair

check celular usage, had 6mb of data received and didnt touched the phone, the phone was really warming up, enough to feel the warm in my pants.

so i did a hard reboot to the phone, then shutdown, removed the sim, cleaned the sim card, then turned it on, its back to normal

didnt really understand what was happening, i had 18mins of standby and 17mins of usage  crazy!!!

now i getting drained "normally" for light usage under 3g 1% for everything i do in the phone, but that i was used to already

another thing anyone had issues whit not being reachable and incoming calls going to voicemail and the phone is on whit full signal??? sometimes i need to reboot and get a bunch of messages and warnings of people who tried to call me
