Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

IR sensor will always be active no mater what. This part of the Proxsimity Sensor that deactivates the touch screen when the phone is near your face.

Battery Drain is in the 60 -100 MICRO amps. Thats .000060 - .000100 Amp or  .060 - .100 MA drain. Now the 4S batter is a 3.7v 1465 MAH Lipo. You do the Math !

You use more energy just zipping up your fly!

You may be right about the power consumption however, with "Raise to Speak" off, the proximity sensor is only used in phone calls to deactivate the touch screen when you bring the phone to your face.  I've tested this on my iPhone 3GS and 4s, using the iPad2 front facing camera to detect the light.

    Guys:

    1. It's an iOS 5.0.1 bug, and it affects iPhones 3GS, 4 and 4S equally.

    2. The main "background process" that seems to be buggy is about the iPhone syncing endlessly. No matter if it's to iCloud, or any other app. It's about a syncing loop error.

How to tell if it's about syncing? Test it:

    1. Disable wireless connections completely by activating "Airplane mode" for about, an hour or two.

    2. Notice if there is battery draining while on it.

It's not a workaround, it's just a test to isolate a possible cause. Please, try it. Post your results here AND feedback to Apple.

Just moved from Blackberry to iPhone 4s.

    it blows.

I am a lemming stuck in the slow lane with the prius driving beatnicks proclaiming the praises of apple. it does not work with my companies 2003 exchange server (no mail) and the battery lasts 4 hours. ugh. epic fail.

Well I didn't check that with my first phone. This one I don't have the heating up issue like the first one (16G white - Sprint). I just want to see if I can do something else to improve the battery life. That is all. The first one I gave up because it was just extremely hot no matter what I did and that was why I returned. This one is good so far (no heating), but I don't know if it is as close to the spec that Apple says. When I found out about the light, I just wanted to make imrpovement. I don't want to drive to the store and return again if I can work on something else to make it better. Also I don't want to carry with me the charger all the time if the phone can hold off until the end of the day. I stilll don't have any email fetched. iCloud is off. Location service is on for Siri and Find my phone. Wifi is off, Bluetooth is off, No FB either. Right now I am at 68% for 1hr and 53 minutes usage with 17 hr and 56 minutes standby after the second full drain. I have not tested by talking on the phone to see how long it lasts. I have not updated to 5.0.1 and not sure if I should update since I read some of the problems that people faced.

My phone is 32G white - Sprint which is on CDMA so there will not any issue with the sim

So my question is should I or should I not worry about the bug of sensor light because I want to use Siri when I can

Sorry, I am confused by your statements "stand for what?". I think at this point it is really silly for you and and anyone else for that matter to stick around and try to generate a fake news story.

I think at this point people with issues should go to an apple store and have them review the device for you. For the people just sticking around or who may have joined recently, I suspect legitimate news organizations will not touch this.

    Best of luck and thanks.

I know this is going to sound crazy but ever since yesterday's NorthEast AT&T outage my battery life has been fantastic. I was losing around 7% per hour...now I am around 2% per hour.

2% - that is just like my iPhone4.

    Just my 2 cents...

Airplane is ok test BUT you are not going to see exactly were it is occuring. Better to leave airplane off, Wifi Off, and all Apps OFF. Then look closely at your CELL DATA USAGE. Heavy Battery drain (high Current draw) will occur in a Cell Phone under high Cell Signal output. This can be caused by weak tower signal (phones RX will increase sensitivity, TX increase output ) OR constant DATA transmision.

This is the sync LOOP that I have noted is occuring, But most are not LOOKING at and testing.

501 did not cause this loop, It was a potential problem in some setups all along. ( My 4s NO ISSUES till 4 days ago with WIFI sync loop. Reset my Hub and rebooted phone and all is well, Wifes was a contacts sync loop as note previously)

501 did correct the issue of background sys process not shutting down after the associated APP was shut down. This can be checked with "aMonitor" . Wired and active mem showed this, with free mem opening up like should happen.

I tried the Airplane Mode test last week. For 1.5 hours (my train ride) I had the phone in Airplane mode.

Background - my iPhone 4 would loss 1% at the most during my train ride. My iPhone 4S was losing 7% during the same ride - day after day.

I put the iPhone 4S in Airplane more...still 7% loss. It didn't make any difference.

    Reason ?

Overall AT&T System congestion cleared and your phone didn't have to work hard to keep a good cell connection !!

Airplane mode JUST turns the Cell TX/RX OFF, Bluetooth and WIFI sections still are RUNNING.

Until 2 days ago my 4S (iOS 5.01) would charge to 100% in a couple of hours. Since yesterday my 4S no longer charges to 100% during an overnight charge. This is in addition to the huge battery drain. Has anyone else experienced anything like this. By the way, I have turned location, bluetooth, and wireless off, and closed all apps.
