Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

This is an interesting thread ... and frustrating too!!

I love to read people's views on the ethos of each company and how this affects their approach to fixing things that don't work. A nice diversion from work!

On the other hand I think we need to keep focused on finding a fix for the ridiculous iPhone problems ...

And while we are at it maybe we oughta work on finding a way to get Apple to come down off its pedestal and TALK to its customers ... admit they have messed up and tell us what they are gonna DO about it!!!!

I just got my new IPhone 4s 64gb, was very expensive Im not a new Verizon customer and could not get upgrade , I ended paying retal price, very disappointed about the battery life , was fully charged when left home in the morning , by noon it was on 50% and  I didn't enjoy it yet , couple more call of a minute each , the battery was on 35 % I didn't have Juce to get back home . That's BS! but that not what is buging me , what upset me more is the fact the APPLE , still selling those phones like  everything is ok , making money when all the people is complaining since the first day they start selleng them , Where is the solution to this problem ? , why should I turn some apps off or Siri off , wifi off, if I paid for use them , why did they offer those services in the beginning , if I won't  be able to use them ? Does anybody  can answer these questions?

Im still very upset , this is a really waste of money ...

I deeply emphatize with you. I, too, bought it with my own hard earned money. And the expectation of an Apple product has been such that it just works. Thats why many are frustratingly disappointed.

Try this.., back up your iPhone to iClouds from the phone (you need to have wifi to do this)

Plug in your phone to your PC/Mac. Launch iTunes. Click RESTORE, and start downloading iOS 5.0.1 ipsw (iphone software). Keep your iPhone plugged in while restore is in the process. Let it run its course. Once done, you should have the start up screen like how you see it when you first bought it. You can unplug your iPhone now.

Next step, do the usual setup from your iPhone... enter Apple ID, select wifi ssid to tag onto, etc... then when prompted, restore your backup (done previously) from iClouds. The phone will restore, switch off and switch on all by itself. Once done, you are good to go. Hopefully, your battery life is better now.

You dont have to turn off anything. Turn on Siri, wifi, bluetooth, location services, etc... if you want.

Oh, and remember to charge your phone till its full, and keep it there for 4-5 hours at least. For a new phone, new battery,.. you need to have at least 2 charge cycles completed before the battery is stable.

Hope it works for you. Good luck!

Mine dropped super fast to 1% and shut off. I was able to turn it back on and run it with heavy usage for 30 minutes at 1%. Intresting. Also i booted it after shut down, it was showing 3%. Maybe the OS can't accurately estimate the battery charge level. A battery firmware problem?

An update. I bought an iPhone 4s few weeks ago restored it from my old 3g backup and had problems with battery which lasted for about a day and on top of this I had problems with sim card faliure/no service. At the end phone was just searching for the signal so it was not possible to use it at all. This is when I returned it to the seller.

Yesterday I got a new one. I didn't restore it from my old 3g backup but I set it up as the new phone. So far, after some 12h of standbuy and 20 min of usage my battery is on 91%. This sounds reasoable. OS version is 5.0 and don't plan to update to 5.0.1 for now.

So, maybe an idea to try to erase everything and do not restore from and old phone backup.

Yes, I know this will work. But once you've synchronized via iTunes (e.g. because there was an update of an app), you'll loose this good performance again. I really don't know why Apple isn't able to solve this problem....

Well I initially added all my backed up contacts via iTunes sync, and added some MP3s manually via iTunes again.

Currently I didn't install any apps and when I do I will update them through iPhone.

The only thing I use iTunes is to install OS update, but anyway as things are now it won't happen untill I see that 5.0.2 or 5.1 has good review from users.

Anything else to avoid in order to keep this good performance?

In my opinion this seems to be a pretty poor show on Apple's part.  For almost 2 weeks (which is when I updated to iOS 5.0.1) I have had to barely use my iPhone 4 just to try and get it through the day and even with minimal usage if unplugged at 7am by 4pm the battery life is dwindling.  How are Apple carrying on as if nothing is happening and unless they have released some official statement that I am not aware of they are still yet to address the vast number of customers that are also suffering with this issue.  Very disappointed with the way they are handling this.  They are quite happy to take people's money and I think it is about someone got off their backside within Apple and let everyone know what they plan to do about this ongoing problem

Today I released my tested workaround for the Apple Iphone Battery Bug. You can view the youtube vid about it here. This workaround worked for all my setups ( Migrating from a 3GS 5.0 , 4S 5.0 or complete new install )

    In short :

    1. Delete iCloud account.

    2. Reset network settings.

    3. The phone is fine now, you can add iCloud again without worries.

Please feel free to perform it on your iPhone and leave your iPhone idling for at least an hour -> not more than 1 or 2 percent of the battery should be depleted or else this workaround did not work for you.

Regardless, if it worked for you or not, please fill in the (new) poll here.

    Kind Regards

The problem with a so called 'clean' save is that you can still get infected afterwards.

Try the workaround and see if that helps you and don't forget to fill in the poll : here.

Can you please describe how can you "infect" you phone?

I never had iCloud enabled on my old phone (4s restored from 3g) and still had bad battery and sim card faliure problems.

    Interesting.

Exactly how the infection starts is also not known to me. I'm still investigating this one....

I need to look into that. Maybe there is more that is synced outside iCloud that I don't know of. Thanx for the info.

EDIT : can you try deselecting all location services and reset your network settings? I am wondering what that will do to your phone.  If you have more than 1 percent battery usage per hour whilst idling you have a high chance of infection.

What APPLE store did you go to?

Analyst that are working on WALL STREET are not reporting a return issue at any apple stores, in fact the device continues to sell out. This is not to say that some users may have problems. A vast majority here are a pile on attempt, no one from legitimate press organizations are going to touch this story since they have evidence that a large degree of the postings are fake propagated by users who represent thrid part interest and affiliates.

Your particular device you can check using iPhone Configuration Utility to see which applications are having issues. I suspect base on your other post you can get the help you need.

    Thanks and good luck.

Did you make your way to an Apple Store. Check your post since they are a number of repeats and some inconsistencies.

    Thanks and best of luck.
