Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I am on my second iphone 4s and it's just as bad as the first,it wont last the day with only light use and everything turned off. I used to have a iphone 4 and it would last at least two days with same settings and usage, sold it to but the 4s, how foolish do i feel know. I have tried all the fixes that i know of,running battery down then recharching, location services off, time zone off, still wont last the day. My point is this, why bother putting all this tech on a phone that is not capable of letting the user make use of it on a day to day basis. Wish i'd stuck with my iphone 4 instead of the so called upgrade.

Hey guys, thought I'd like to share. I've been using the iPhone for about 3 days now since I've activated it (had it lying around after I bought it from Verizonwireless.com) and I'm still on the iOS 5.0 firmware. I've heard about the battery issue that plague the 4S or iOS 5 (whichever the real culprit is) and I haven't been experiencing horrendous batttery life that is being mentioned in this thread. I played with the phone the first two days after I got it not really paying attention how much battery was being drained but I did look up at the battery meter once in a while to check how I was doing, it was doing alright. I wanted to see how much my power my phone consumed during the time I was asleep/not using it so, I charged my phone up to 100% at 12 AM this morning, took it off the charger and didn't touch it until 10 AM. After 10 hours the iPhone was down to 95%.

    Here are my settings:

    3G: on, Wi-fi: off

Location Services: on, Maps: on, Siri: on, Find My iPhone: on, everything else: off

Sounds: Adjusted to quarter of the way up

Brightness: Left it however it came, halfway with auto-brightness: on

    Bluetooth: off

    Siri: on

iCloud: everything on except Mail, Photostream, and Notes

    No Twitter account

    Store: Everything off

I have the dedicated Gmail app and another email account linked to my school email that fetches new data hourly. I'm also generally logged into Facebook and my Dropbox account.

I think that's all the settings I can think off that would be relevant to battery life. As of this post my usage looks like 34 minutes active, and 11 hours: 43 minutes Standby with 91% power left.

This is very interesting indeed... I had a similar experience with a game i had and also another app as well.. notification was disabled but i syill got a home screen pop up.  So what i did was I went through all the apps that i had disabled in notifucations and went to the "View in lock screen" at the bottom and disabled all of them.. Lets see if this works. !

Same here. I have the 4S for about two weeks and have no battery issues. I have to charge it every 2nd day and I have almost all services going. Now, I only  have one email account set up and I do not play around with face book or twitter. I have not upgraded to 5.01 just in case though....

Yeah, I'm sorta afraid to update to 5.01 just in case. I can definitely live with charging every other day.

My 4s was absolutely fine until 3 days ago, synced with itunes, did not update to 5.01 and did not install new apps and now the battery will not even last the night sat next to my bed.  Absolutely useless.

Made sure no apps are still running, fully charged but cannot last 8hrs.

No idea why this has started now when it was fine before, is it worth contacting Apple?

    Hello,

I purchased my first smartphone (4S) via A&T, but now I have to exchange it for one that doesn't have such terrible battery issues (i.e. lost about 15% with light usage within 30 minutes or so, SIRI/Location services).  Can someone please inform me as to who I bring this up with (i.e. Apple or AT&T)?  I'm at a total loss for what's the use of having all of these "smart services" if I have to keep them all off?

    Many Thanks!

Forgot to add that I updated to 5.01 and it has made no difference.

Thank you very much for your input.  See?  I knew that I wasn't up on the technical stuff!  I am glad to know, though, that my battery problem pales in comparison and that it's not too bad.

Thanks for your reply.  I do appreciate it, but had a feeling the technical stuff would go over my head....and most of it has.  My general thought is that I don't have the severe problems others are experiencing.  And for your 'cause'....I HAVE had my phone running with Wifi turned on.

    Thanks again

Now I have a whole new battery drain issue... This support forum is emailing me every reply to this thread.  I have received hundreds of messages.  I've set all notification options to No in my account profile... No luck!  I guess it's time to setup a gmail filter.

You can stop email notifications.  You have apparently 'subscribed' to a topic or topics and that's why you're getting all the emails.

On the top of this page, on the right side, there is a small box that says ACTIONS.  It is there that you can click on the link to either subscribe or unsubsribe to emails

    Hope this helps

LIked I posted in here time and time again and got flack from people for saying it. There's NOTHING we can do to fix this, it's up to Apple to address it.

All these chumps think that they're going to fix it by spending some time tewaking apps settings, etc... As if APple is going to develop a proprietary product that can be completely altered in it's functionality by the end user...

Those people do not understand Apple, I've been using their products for 20+ years and Apple NEVER EVER allowed, nor will they ever allow ANYONE to modify their products or the functionality.

Look, even their app developers have to meet the most asinine regulations and 40% of their revenues get sucked up by Apple.

All these people are just wasting their, and YOUR time.

Sit back and wait, if Apple doesn't address it, which I sure hope they do, then get rid of the phone and Apple products altogether.

iOS 5.0.2 should be out soon, iOS 5 has also been bad for my 4S and iPad 2 battery.
