Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

    @1AppleADayaNoWay

Thanks; that information on Push Vs Fetch was useful. [ https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1639236?start=0&tstart=0 ]

For anyone just wanting a digest, the origainal poster put this analogy out there:

"Fetch is like calling a friend every 15 minutes to see if there's any news. Push is like calling your friend, then putting them on speakerphone and waiting for them to speak. (That way, you get the news immediately.) But if they never reply, the connection automatically drops. So every once in a while you call out "Are you still there?""

I'm by no means any kind of expert on all of this and, to illustrate that, here's my next question:

I don't use my exchange account for email, as such, I use it to integrate my calendar accross my phone and my laptop's Outlook. I sync Outlook to Gmail, via 'Google Calendar Sync' for Windows; Gmail to iPhone via Exchange and use a 3rd party calendar App on the phone called 'Week Cal'. On all my apps, and in general settings, my Gmail calendar is default and all new events go there.

Given all that, am I being naive in thinking that I can have this set-up and not expect high usage when the phone is on idle? There's a lot written on these pages about email and Push/Fetch but what about calendars? Do they behave differently and are they more or less of a demand on the phone's systems than email?

I have the same problem as beveragizer, except I don't have angry birds installed.   I've had my 4s since the first day of release and have gotten 2-3 days of battery life until about 3 days ago.  Now I get 8-10 hours.  No change in my usage.   I will say that I started getting repeated error messages from icloud mail saying my password was incorrect (it wasn't).  I just turned off icloud mail, hoping that will correct the battery problem.

    @love2lindy

Did you try to kill all apps from background and reboot/restart your iPhone after you started to get 8-10 hours of battery life?

In order to kill all the Apps push the Home button twice real quick. The open Apps will show on the bottom of the screen. Hold the 1st one a few seconds and a red dot will appear. Tap it and then move on to the next one that slides into position.

    Hope this helps!

The same here, having battery issues since seven days.

I also received my iPhone the first day when it was sold in Germany.

Always could use it for at least 2 days with moderate usage.

now it's loosing 2-5% each hour in standby...

no changes in usage, no new apps, no changes on settings.

This is starting to be a big concern for me. I restored mine to ractory settings and it helped for a few days and now the battery goes incredibly fast. I lost 3% battery while loading this page on 3G and also I lost 40% in one hour earlier on standby. On top of that my phone was burning. If any one has a solution that really works I would love that. Otherwise it seems that I will have to send it back to apple. I mean come on! 40% in one hour on stdanby!!! This is just unbelievable!

    Ok guys just try this....

All the information on this thread got me about 1% to 2% battery drain per hour..

1 Do a all ....." Reset all settings"

This will get the IR sensor off incase it is on all the time.... (I have found that the IR sensor triggers it self on with out any notice and keep being on .... Guess its a bug apple have to fix it)

2 Keep every thing off... Like location service & sending data back to apple ect ( but right now I have location service on for find my phone and Siri.  Location service for system services are off. .... My usage is with this settings....

3 wifi and blue tooth off

4 My Siri is on however

5 Now the most important thing is keep cellular date off.... ( you may on it when you want to use Siri or I cloud. )

But my usage mentioned is without using Siri, iCloud or the Internet. I guess still my usage is ok

6 on any service for like wifi etc when you want to use it but off the service you used after you done..

7 close all back ground apps opened when ever you can... By double clicking the home button and then closing the opened apps..

    8. Put your phone on stand by no sooner you finish using it by pressing the on off button so that it will save some battery juice..

9 do as many full battery cycles as possible as it improves the battery.... Not just the first 2 or 3 cycles...

I am no tech buff.... All the postings of our brothers and sisters of this apple thread helped me...

But this is the stuff I did to get the battery life that I am getting now...

Well this is not a solution ... Apple will have to give the solution. But at least to survive till then..

Oh.... One other thing... If you find suddenly your battery life is going down after a few cycles... Do a settings reset... As I would guess some phantom activity has triggered.

    Good luck guys...

Hope this would help.... ( most have been mentioned by others... But this is the sequence that worked for me)

Good luck and keep me posted...

That's not really new and unfortunately it does not work for me...

Of course it is a easy thing to do because all apps and data will remain on your mobile. Only a few network an VPN settings are lost after a settins reset.

Maybe it will worke for some others.

    D J Jan.

As I have told you. This the sequence that helped me... All have been mentioned before...

It is not the reset that worked... It is keeping the cellular data off that helped me.

If you have not tried that.

    Try it and see
